King and Country

"Brzen... the shadowy one?" asks himself Rorthrar. "No,
haven't seen him. We will wait for the group for 15 minutes more, then, we'll go. They can catch us if they want to come!"

OOC:

One little thing I forgot to mention, his challenges are no easy bunch of monsters.

Story:

"I sense a powerful presence on the road. I must bring back Thrinta the demon(from a bold new world) to help me", Lokken thinks in his mind while he meditates and scans the road ahead."I leave earlier than the others tommorow", he mused to himself," After all, someone must scout the road in person, and as I'm the only one who owns a dragon, there aren't many choices".

Vixen was itching to depart. She sighed as they decided to wait a bit for Bzren. She lifted her throwing knives from her boots and started throwing them at a nearby tree trunk. The metal bit into the wood with satisfying acuracy.

Thunk, thunk, thunk... she threw 3 knives in quick succession with her right hand and spun around to use her left hand to throw three more at the tree behind her. She rolled her neck, trying to loosen the tense muscles there. She walked over to the first tree and removed the knives thoughtfully. She slipped them back into her boot and walked to the other tree. She noticed Valdor looked highly amused about something. She looked across at Glorianna and saw the fire in her eyes. Hmmm, something had certainly riled her Vixen thought to herself.

She hefted her three remaining knives in her hands and started to juggle them expertly. The blades flashed as they spun in circles moving from hand to hand. She watched the assembled team almost unconsiously as she flipped the blades. They were all anxious to leave, some of those assembled watched her impromptu performance to keep their minds occupied. She smiled, she hadn't intended it to become a performance, she just liked to keep her hands busy whenever she was bored. Suddenly someone threw a full water skin towards her. Her eyes gleamed as she effortlessly pulled it into her juggling act. Her brother whistled in approval and she laughed over at him.

Roland: i drank some of the Liqur. not bad. strong is right but the stuff mages make is stronger still. i threw the skin back to mansard and wondered where this brazen guy was. i think im gonna have a talk with vixens brother now.
i walk over to him as he's watching vixens little juggleing act
"well....tempest wasent it? we havent been properly introduced. My name is Rolando Gilliad. and pardon my tounge but i find it a tad hard to belive that vixens brother would just appear out of the darkness like that. dont take offence pal but i have just never trusted a pretty face for some odd reason. so why dont you tell me how you got here and if you have ever heard of vixens and i's little escapade with Mikba."

After telling the paladin, Lokken mounted the great dragon and flew off. As he scouted, he saw a thieves' cave and quite a few other "obstacles", through all this scouting, he had not found that pestering presence, although he could tell that it was using a spell to lower it's mana level. After a few hours, he noticed a small village being slaughtered by liches, of course he had to help them. After he killed them all, he looted the dead and returned to the castle in a cheerful mood sporting a few very tasteful treasures.

Valdor considered Rolando carefully. "No, I guess you're quite right to question my sudden appearance," he smiled at the man. "I really must assure you that my being here is nothing more than a coincidence. As for your relationship with my sister, she's kept her life pretty much a secret since she left home, I have only heard rumours of the great battle against Mikba, are you saying she was involved?"

Roland smirked, "oh yes she was, as was I, that is how we met actually." Valdor looked impressed and perhaps a little jealous of Roland's relationship with his sister. "Well then it seems that we're both aware of exactly how special she is then." Valdor replied. Roland smiled in agreement. Both men looked as if they were trying to figure the other out. Eventually they both simply smiled and kept their opinions to themselves.

Roland turned just as Vixen finished her juggling exercise. She caught all the knives in one hand and the water-skin in the other. She walked the short distance over to the two men and handed the water-skin back to her brother. She grinned, "it's been a long time brother dear, I'm not so easily distracted as I was when I was younger."
"No, I have to say, I am amazed at how well you've progressed."
Vixen poked her tongue out at him, clearly not interested in impressing her big brother. She looked at Roland and then back at her brother and frowned, "what were you two talking about?"
They both looked at her innocently and smiled.
"Nothing at all," they voiced in union.
If anything her look became more suspicious.
"Well it better be nothing at all to do with me..."
She raised her brow and noted they looked a little sheepish. She growled a very unlady-like remark about men in general and left them to it wandering over to Glorianna who had calmed down considerably it seemed and was gently stroking her steed's neck.

Roland: "she alwase was a sharp one eh tempest?" then a yung boy who was quite out of breath gave me a letter, i tipped him and he ran off. i smiled at who it was from.
"Hey Vixen, Sith come here! we just got a letter from Gardeen!"
i read the letter.
"Dear Companions,

we are pleased to hear you are all on good terms again. The baby has been Born without much trouble. we named him Rolath. we send you our hello's from every one here. and wish you good luck on your journey! we wish we could join you but i have duties i am obliged to attend to. if you can please stop by my castle on your way.

many happy returns,
Gardeeen Esq."

"well its good to hear from them.hmmm well its been 15 minutes and that shadowy sluggard hasent come yet so lets be off or we wont make it to the river in time." i mounted shaddowfax and waited for the others t obe ready

"Paladin told me to tell you it's time to move out, all the others will arrive in the great hall shortly. I've finished my scouting, and I've discovered a lot. We have a few obstacles, a robbers' cave and a very powerful presence which is keeping it's power down with a spell. Hopefully that's enough of a review for your likings," Lokken said, all the while herding them into the great hall.

As we are all outside the palace gates. Roland awaits on his horse for all the others. Vixen mounts her own silver grey mare and Valdor mounts his black horse which seems to have Arabian lines.

Vixen sits astride and checks her pack is in order. Then she grins over at Roland. "Race you to the trees up yonder!" She hollared and with a bright laugh she kicks her horse into a gallop and heads for the trees.

Bored with waiting outside the gate, Mansard naps in the shade, his horses tied to his foot. As the racing horses charge by, the small man's animals bolt to follow, dragging him along the ground for several yards before he can gain control.
"Wooa! Steady...Hey! They're leaving without me. Hey Vixen!
Roland! Dam!" Mounting his still drifting horse, Mansard heads his train after the others. "Finally on the road again."

Valdor laughs as he watches his sister race ahead with Roland and the resulting movement of Mansard's team dragging him across the ground. Watching Mansard pick himself up and mount his horse Valdor had to admit he was a tough sort.

Valdor takes a slower pace and manouvers his Arabian steed so that he keeps pace with Glorianna. She seemed to be refusing to look at him. He smiled to himself. She was a feisty one, so easy to irritate.

His horse Tridant was eager to follow in Vixen's wake. He snorted with impatience as Valdor calmly kept him in check. The horse was beautifully groomed and clearly well cared for and spirited. Valdor smiled wickedly at Glorianna, "so M'Lady, do you think your pet can keep up with those yonder?" He grinned watching Glorianna's face go red, her eyes widening with affront. "Why... you... of COURSE he can, we'd beat your LITTLE horse and chauvanistic rider ANY time!"
"So? A challenge?" Valdor's dark eyes glinted with something altogether devilish.
"You're on M'Lady, a gentleman never refuses a challenge from a Lady... " with that he yelled an ancient war cry and his stallion's ears pricked alert as Valdor let him have his head. The horse bolted forward at a dead gallop stretching it's muscles and glorifying in the run. Glorianna couldn't believe she was doing it but she quickly kicked her own horse into a gallop. He seemed to link with her feelings and was pushing himself hard to catch up and beat the dark horse and rider just ahead of them. Glorianna gloried in the rush of excitment feeling the air rush past lifting her golden locks from her shoudlers...

Glorianna:

She laughed with glee at the feeling of freedom she got from racing this arogant man. She saw Maven racing next to her and felt the connection that was always present between the three of them. Jafar was glorying in the run. She had tamed him by allowing him the freedom to run. His strong legs pumped harder to close the gap between that black bullet of a horse. She didn't have to kick him, through that magic link, he knew what she wanted.

Somethings wrong, a voice whispered, but she ignored it. And when she did, she found her self falling with the ground coming up to meet her. Her head seemed to bounce and she curled herself into a tight ball trying to ignore the pain. When she opened her eyes she saw her stirup still attached to her foot, the end looking like it had be cut. Maven was heading towards her, but she couldn't keep her head straight. She welcomed the blackness, since it stopped the pain.

Valdor heard the whinnie of a horse in distress and reigned in his horse to look behind him. He watched in horror as Glorianna's petite body was thrown from the great horse and she tumbled to the ground. He noted that she had the sense to curl up and this helped her roll with the fall. However, as she urged his horse quickly back to her fallen body he noticed that she wasn't moving and a cold feeling spread through his heart.

He reached her quickly her horse was nuzzling her and her other pet was pacing up and down clearly ready to defend her. It watched him and bared it's teeth in warning. Valdor lifted his hands to show he held no weapons and carefully knelt beside the fallen woman. The animal kept a close eye on him as he carefully felt for broken bones. She didn't open her eyes but nothing major seemed broken thankfully. He turned towards the direction his sister had ridden and cupped his hand to his mouth and let out a strange shrill cry three times in quick succession. The sound carried. He didn't want to move her until his sister had a chance to check her. She was a healer. He grabbed a blanket from his pack and carefully covered her resting his hand across her forehead hoping she would be okay.

Finally he looked up hearing the sound of hooves. Vixen was urging her horse into a full gallop until she reached them and before the mare even stopped she was jumping off him and running to them. "What happened?" She gasped.
"She fell," Valdor nodded towards the horse, "we were racing, I don't know what happened after that, I haven't moved her..."
"Good," Vixen huffed, "you go check her horse I'll take care of this." She carefully rolled the young woman onto her back and used the blanket as a pillow. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes running her hands over Glorianna's aura to see if any bones had broken or fractured. She noticed a waver around the girls left wrist and severe bruising along her right leg. She grabbed her herb pack and quickly set about mixing a recovery potion. She poured in some water and let the mixture seep for a few seconds before lifting the girls head and easing the liquid between her lips.

Valdor came back and was frowning, "looks like someone tampered with her saddle, one of the stirups had been cut clean..." Vixen frowned at the news and waited to see if her potion would work. Glorianna coughed and spluttered as the herbal mixuture heated her blood...

Lokken rode in a few moments later," what happened?" he asked motioning to the still sputtering Glorriana.

Roland: i quickly rushed to gloriannas side.
"what happened here...?" Vixen explained it to me
"i see....hmmm..." i touched a few parts and put my hand on some
"her ankel is sprained but not badly...she is a tad cut up but thats about it...hmmm get me some spare cloth and a CLEAN wet rag of some sort.. also can you get me a nice smooth flat peice of wood? thank you , now stand back.."
i started working like a skilled surgon i cleaned up the cuts carefully, then i applied pressure and fashoned a bandage of some sort, then i put a makeshift splint on her leg to make sure it healed properly.
"there..whew...she should be ok for now but we need to keep traveling so we can make a good camp by the river. she is mostly blacked out from the fall and not much else...for some reason i can detect if she has any poisons in her body...no she isnt infected or anything...but let me see that stirrup that was cut..." i took the cut stirrup and examined it carefully. hmmmm no abrasions, no burn marks, its almost as if this was done by magic! hmmmm that could very well be..some cheap prank or trick by a young sorcerer...then i noticed a burn mark that was almost totaly hidden in the leather...it was the sign of the god of death....lokken....i knew it....but i must stay silent for now....i must keep him from harming this young lady...he wants me dead...yes he does...but why....why is he doing this.....i must ask sith about it descreetly tonight at camp....i am very worried now

"Okay Glorianna, as you are all right, it's time we actually moved somewhere, also I would appreciate it if we have no racing. I know you are all concerned for Glorianna as much or more as I am", he said casting a glance at Valdor," and would like to know who did this, but I'm afraid now isn't the time", as he finished his statement, a curious thought crossed his mind, what if it was that presence?

OOC: Okay, Roland, I'll play along with you for now, but don't get me angry.

OOC: no worries Morgoth , this is how we fight this "presance" of yours... yeesh its called suspicion the presance is trying to frame you!

"Morbius, please. I have come to your land searching adventure. What I have found is a great one, do not let me down. I need to be a part of this team." Garret, a young hearty swordsman was pleading with the king. He had recently heard of the peace trip Morbius was planning, and had gotten here as fast as he could.
Morbius rubbed his chin, was this young man really going to be part of the team. He didn't look like much, the broadsword hilted at his back, however said otherwise.
Morbius, still unsure of this new member, said nothing.
Garret felt his pleading was not helping, he had to resort to last measures.
"King," Garret bowed, "Three years ago, I was working for you as a stable boy. I remember one day when you went riding, and you fell off your horse."
Morbius looked interested, remembering the story.
"It was I king, who helped you. I told no one of the mishap."
This was one step away from blackmail, but Garret felt determined to be on this mission. He paused, still bowed, waiting for an answer.
"All right. First sign this contract, then go to the stable, near the edge of the forest. The band is there waiting to leave. Hurry, or you will miss them."
Garret, quickly signed, and was off, his heart pounding inside his chest. He felt so excited. All his weapon training, all the skills he had learned, were about to come into focus.
His Horse, Wyld, was already packed and ready. Jutting out of it was a long bow, with a quiver of arrows.
"Be prepared," Garret muttered to himself as he got on the horse. He kicked her softly in her side. Wyld sneered, then went shooting off towards the stables.
In a minute they were there, coming in at top speed. Garret was relieved that the group was all still there. He was almost sure they would have left by now. Garret galloped up to them.
There, on the ground, obvious in pain was one of the most beautiful persons Garret had ever seen. He was taken away by her, and he aparent need for help. Garret dismounted, slowly looking at all the other members.
Garret didn't say a word, he just looked at each one, eyeing them carefully, making snap judgments, another skill he had learned from his master. None of them seemed to distrustworthy, at the moment.
"Hello," he said, pleasingly, "My name is Garret. I have been asked by the king..."
One small white lie wouldn't hurt anything
"to join up with your band. I am a weapons expert. I excell in just about anything that can be used to kill a man..."
Garret noticed there was a number of females here too
"or woman. Hello everyone."
Quite a little speech, if he did say so himself. He waited for someone to speak.

Vixen didn't like how Roland took over her patient like he did. She remembered again how irritating he could be. Seemed that being a snake-man now didn't really change his basic personality she thought. But she was being silly, at least Glorianna wasn't seriously hurt, although they would have to travel slower now to accomodate her.

She watched as Garret finished his speech. She tossed her pony tail over her shoulder and walked right up to him. Placing her hands on her hips she openly regarded him. He seemed distinctly uncomfortable as she inspected him. "What is your weapon of choice?" She asked precisely.
"The bow and arrow M'Lady." He replied without hesitation.
"Think you can," she turned to look over her shoulder at a tree almost 500 yards behind her, "hit say, an apple on that tree over yonder?"
Garret gulped at the challenge but wasn't concerned, he could easily hit the mark, but he felt that he really needed to impress her so he carefully slipped his bow from his saddle pack and removed two arrows. He notched them both and Vixen arched a brow at this unusual technique. He pulled back the string easily and let both arrows fly.

Vixen smiled. "Very interesting technique there boy," she grinned. The party moved onwards and as they neared the tree Vixen dismounted and walked over to it. She found an apple lying on the ground. It had been split precisely in two by the first arrow and was held together by the second. Very impressive indeed she thought to herself. She picked up the arrow holding up the apple for all to see. She removed it and handed it back to Garret. Giving him half the appled while she munched on the other. She winked at him. "You can ride with me any time boy," she smiled mounting her horse.

The group moved onwards. Vixen and Valdor kept close to Glorianna. Vixen because she was concerned for her friends health, Valdor because he was concerned about the possibility that someone was trying to hurt her.

Roland: i smiled at the apple. he was a fine shot that was for sure, but can he hit and orc commander at 1000 yards dead through the heart..i wondered for a moment, then i started to think about Zeratul. i guess we arent together anymore but thats ok...i can live on.i checked my horse to see if he was ok.then i decided to listen with attention.quickly i went away from the group and listened. i heard another band of people. i quickly ran twords them hidden. i dicovered they we Rouges on their way to their faveorite ambush spot witch was where the rest of the party happened to be. i ran back, quick as lightning.
"puff puff......ready your weapons and get hidden in the bush..about 15 rouges heading this way!"

Lokken then took his turn at talk," Boy, you say you are good at this archery, well then shoot me, and if you can you will recieve the biggest bag of gold you have ever seen. Or are you scared to kill? I promise I won't fight back" He said all the while pulling out his cloak and staff.

Garret pondered shooting this person. It didn't seem to hard, but still...
Just then Roland came up the path. He panted about rogues coming, everyone should get ready. Rogues, Garret snickered, he had fought worse, much worse, but he still wondered.
Garret quickly dismounted Wyld, taking a place right by a large bush. The bow and quiver removed from the horse Garret slapped Wyld on the rear. The horse quickly trotted off into the forest, waiting nearby.
Garret got behind a large bush. He squatted, and waited for the rogues to show their ugly faces. Quickly he counted the ten arrows he had left in the quiver, that wasn't much, he would have to make more later.
Just then an idea popped into his head. Garret scanned the area for a huge tree. There was a nice Oak was growing a few feet away from him. He put the bow on his back, and started to climb. Garret found a large branch, balanced himself out as far as he dare go, waiting for the bunch of bandits.
Garret loaded an arrow, and poised himself there. He balanced himself on the branch, and still stayed steady with the arrow, pointing right on the path.

Garret waited...

Ten huge serpents slithered out of the trees and Lokken said to Roland," These are your rogues, eh? Well not too much of a problem." He raised his staff and a great black ball encircled all pf the serpents, suddenly they started coughing and gagging, then after five minutes, they dropped out of the ball and the ball exploded over their heads, when inspected, they were completely unmarked, but instead were strangled!

Mansard sat astride his horse watching the activities. He kept his crossbow handy as the giant snakes appeared. Shook his head as Lokken killed them.

"Baaa....Wizards, always showing off. Your a fine shot there Garret!" He shouted. "I'm off to the river to make camp! See you all later!" He trotted off away from the city into the woods. "Now where was that theives cave at?" He wondered as he road.
