All true NBA fans need to read this column, it explains why the NBA is not the main topic of interest of every city (excluding LA's bandwagoners of course) As a Mavs fan, I hate the Lakers very much not because of Shaq and Kobe, but knowing that Derek Fisher has more Championship rings than the greatest white player of all time, Pistol Pete Maravich, this disgusts me, I have to go throw up now.

CHEER

Not that it has anything to do with the subject matter of this thread, but the title of the thread reminded me of my all-time favorite cheer (actually a football cheer):

RAH, RAH, REE!
KICK HIM IN THE KNEE!
RAH, RAH, RASS!
KICK HIM IN THE OTHER KNEE!!!

It is unfortunate that your comments contain both veiled racism and the suggestion that anyone who does not agree with your opinion is not a "true" fan. I agree that Pete Maravich was an outstanding player and it is unfortunate that he did not win a championship. There are many individual stars in many sports who excelled at their game but did not get to play on a championship team.

I have cheered for a lot of teams that did not win but I did not begrduge the winner their trophy once the game had been decided. In competitive sports there is always a winner and a loser. As Phil Jackson said recently regarding the Sacramento Kings, sometimes the hardest thing is to be a good loser.

Good losers don't throw up if the other team wins.

Wrong

I was not being racist in any way, although my favorite player is white, that does not make me a racist. I was speaking of true fans in a sense of fans who enjoy seeing the fast-paced high scoring games that have rhythm and flow to them, where the crowd gets really into the game, and the offensive strategy does not consist of throwing the ball into the post man and then standing around waiting to do something. This is not shaq's fault, that is the way the NBA has changed, and it's really Patrick Ewing's fault, because he took away Pat Riley's fast paced style, and ushered in the muggings that commonly occurr in basketball now.

I wasn't throwing up because the Lakers won, they're better than the Nets, and they beat them on the floor, they deserved it. I was throwing up thinking that Derek Fisher or any other benchwarmer on the Lakers has more rings than Pistol Pete Maravich.

Pistol Pete Maravich did not win championships in part because of his own demons and also because he was on a team that was put together with him as the centerpiece, and without the supporting players needed to win.

Shaq can't do it all on his own, neither can Kobe, or Magic or Larry Bird or even Kareem or Bill Russell. (well Bill Russell might have, I was kinda young when he played) The only one who comes to mind who could is Michael Jordan, and you have to qualify even that, he had Scotty Pippen and Dennis Rodman, who are pretty powerful support.

I agree that the NBA regular season has become boring. You really don't usually need to watch until the 4th quarter. I hardly pay attention until the playoffs start. I actually enjoy college ball more.

And btw, I think Derek Fisher is a solid dependable guard, mabye not a Star in his own right, but certainly more than a benchwarmer.
