I had my lip done, and yes, it did hurt. They do use a numbing gel on the area, but even with the gel, it did hurt some. There is some regrowth, but not much at all. All in all it was worth it to me.

The fee for the lip here was 250.00 for the first visit and 125.00 for each additional visit. I had a total of seven visits. Since there isn't as much hair on the lip as there is on the pubic region and underarms, it was less. The pubic region and underarms ar more expensive.

One thing...while you are undergoing the treatments, you are not allowed to wax at all. You can shave the area, but nothing else...so in my case with the lip, I had to wait it out during the six weeks in between treatments. If you decide to do it, allow the hair to grow for six weeks....they need that time for there to be enough growth to do the treatments.

I'm not particularly hairy, but I have sensitive skin that comes up in a rash whether I shave, wax, pluck, use cream, whatever...

That and I can't be bothered half the time to shave!

ive gotten laser hair removal on my stomach. every visit was $250. the first time it took off more than half of the hair and with every time it took off more and more.
i dont think it was so expensive and definitly worth it. the pain was pretty bad but also worth it. the pain was probably equal to waxing.
also this is a long and drawn out process so you should do this in the winter so that by summer time you are all smoothe and hairless.
i definitly recommend laser hair removal.

My wife did the laser treatement on her lip..

It worked at first, but then it grew back..

But my wife has dark tough hair.. so..

I think that this is one of those cases where somone had a nifty idea, but never bothered to prove its efficacy in a controlled scientific study. Why not find someone who performs the procedure and ask them the following question:

Could you point me to an independent peer-reviewed study that demonstrates the efficacy of laser hair removal, and compares hair regrowth to the regrowth after a different procedure like waxing?

I looked at some laser clinic sites on the web and wasn't able to find such a study. If a favourable study existed, it is a good bet that the clinics would advertise it. I think it is reckless to offer a potentially scarring procedure without proof of efficacy. We would not allow pharmaceuticals to be marketed like this.

I am surprised at all of the negative experience comments thus far. I have not (yet) had it done, but hope to in the near future. The women I have spoken to about it, including two of the ladies who work at the salon where I get my waxing done, have all reported pretty positive results. The cost is stil a bit offputting but here in London at least I have noticed that it has become about 20% less expensive now than it was just a couple of years ago, as more trained techs are available to meet demand.

What I have heard is that in order to get the best results, your hair should be dark and your skin fairly pale. (Which is me to a T.) So if you are very fair haired and quite tanned, let's say, it's not going to work well for you.

I was wrong about there being no studies of laser hair removal.

The site http://www.hairfacts.com/ has quite a few studies, actually. The results are mixed. For example, a 40 to 50 percent reduction after 12 months with 2 treatments.

Here is one example study where they tried different methods on different skin patches on the same people.

12 patients were treated once on 18 areas. Each area was divided in 4 and treated with separate protocols for each quadrant: waxing alone, laser alone, waxing, followed by laser, and waxing followed by a carbon lotion and laser. Mean percentage of hair regrowth at 1 month was 39.9% for the wax-carbon-laser quadrant, 46.7% for the wax-laser quadrant, 66.1% for the laser-alone quadrant, and 77.9% for the wax control quadrant. The percentage of hair regrowth approximately doubled by 3 months but was significantly delayed in all laser-treated quadrants regardless of pretreatment protocol. Full hair regrowth in all anatomic locations was observed by month 6.

Professional electrolysis, on the other hand, had a 90% success rate according to two studies cited at the above site.

Yes, it surely is. I had electrolysis done on my chin, and not only did it hurt, it left little scabs that eventually turned into little scars. Not real noticeable, but I know they're there. Plus, it ain't exactly cheap.

I usually shave, then decided to wax. But then I thought why waste $ on something that will just come back...plus waiting 2 wks for hair to grow back enough to wax. So I made an appt next week for a laser treatment for a brazillian. The cost is $179...but 1/2 first time visit. I will write more next week and let you know how it felt. I'm excited about not having to shave daily to keep it so smooth!

I spoke with my dermatologist on the subject recently and he is very much opposed to laser treatment - it is not forever (most places now refer to it as hair reduction rather than removal, at least in Europe, for legal purposes), can in certain cases stimulate hair growth, may cause damage to the surrounding area eg glands (for the underarm/bikini area), and most technicians are barely qualified…

I Brazilian wax religiously and recommend it highly… Bliss Spa is super because they use this special purple wax which is less painful.

Not cheap, but not all that painful. Agreed nothing is forever but this does help. I get a rash when the hair grows back after waxing so I had two sessions with laser so far. I have a 40% reduction in some areas, more in others and less in others. It depends on your hair growth cycle. It is better than waxing if you can afford it.

in my opinion, I think it's worth it. I've had entire bikini area, legs, and pits done. 3 seperate visits on each area. There is about 1/5 of the orginal hair left on the bikini area and it's been about 8 months since last visit. On the legs I have hardly any hair left. I have about 1/3 left in the pits. Both legs and pits were last treated about 2 months ago. The place I go to has specials so I'm waiting to buy more packages to help make the next sessions less expensive. I think I've had pretty good results since the hair is dark and I'm very fair. There is a newer laser out I think called Elos that is supposed to work on lighter hair. It does hurt in some areas. The pits don't hurt too much. On the legs it's down the very front and all around the ankle. The bikini area hurts mostly on the mons and lips. I've written a story about my laser experience.

hi I am an esthetician and although I am in canada so i cannot post accutate prices. I can tell you what I know....this is not something you can get good answers from here. The variations of hair type , skin type and/or where on your body you are having it done make some one elses experiance difficult to compare. Most Laser hair removal bussinesses will give you a free consultaion with a realistic time and price frame....if they don't...move on. There are many good palces but like any business there will be the waste of time joints...shop around.

as for pain FORGET electrolisis it's a dated procedure , painful , time consuming and not always effective. Again as far as pain goes ..hard to know where your at...no offense women ( cause I am one ) but many women have very low pain tolerance , and big time drama queen alter ego's.....so each exp is going to be different , depending on the person and I have expeianced all types just whithin my proffession.

That said I think it's sad we have become so obsessed with a hair free body it's great for blondes but if your dark haired or of dark dissent you will be hairier...embrace it...I can see lips ect....but don't get carried away.As an esthetician I see all these women come in smoking and all tanned and obsessed with a hairless pussy...?? I want to tell them "stay the hell out of tanning beds and quit smoking or your face will look like your pussy in a few years..."

REAL women do not look like Pamela Anderson and REAL men do not want them to.....

My first time

Okay, so today was the day. It was an interesting appointment for sure. I think that in some aspects it could have been considered erotic. For example there were places that needed to be shaved better before beginning...what can I say my shower's dark and there are those hard to reach places. And then she took pictures of my little kitty (she said for before and after shots...but who really knows...she did tease about myspace) Anyway, I had to get up on all fours with my ass up so the lady could shave me extra well and then I had to lay on my back with my legs spread and the bottoms of my feet touching. She put ice packs on in order to flash freeze my parts to be lasered. After a bit of this she stuck some clear gel on me and then while blowing a cool stream of very cold air began zapping me with the laser. She started with the left side of my ....pussy...and it was there was some discomfort, but tolerable. She then moved to my right side and that was more tender for some reason...i wasn't sure if it was because I knew what would happen. And then she had me flip over on my tummy with a pillow underneath my belly and then went to work on my asshole...sorry but it was a brazillian...fortunately that area didn't take long . On a scale of 1-10 of pain/discomfort I would say over all it was a 4. But it was all red afterwards which didn't look good to me, but it's now been a few hours the redness is gone and it looks good. I go back in 6 weeks to do it all again. Not sure if this was helpful, but where else can one share like this? Not at the church social for sure.

I have done laser several times now after years of electrolysis. I did my face for yep I will admit my "man beard" from my PCOS. It cost me $250 a treatment and went to about 6. Because it is hormonal I will probebly never by 100% hair free and the laser tech told me that up front before we ever started. My last treatment was just about June of last year (since your supposed to stay out of the sun 6 weeks prior and post treatment)... so I kind of quit for the summer.. I can honestly say it's been almost a year without a treatment and right now I could litterally pluck the little bit I have. Had I known how wonderful life could be without daily beard management I would have done it ages ago. And yea it was far from pleasant feeling but tolerable.. a tattoo like pain...Was worth every cent and then some thou

I've had laser done on my pubes and pits (the salon had a special on where I could get my pits done for free for the first 2 sessions). I'm very pleased with it, I'm going for the 6th treatment on my pubes in a few days and after that I'll be leaving it for a while to see how it goes. I have a little regrowth at the moment but it's very soft and much thinner and NO STUBBLE at all. My pits haven't seen a razor for 10 days and I can't see any hair at all.

It's not going to get every hair but it's worth it even though pretty expensive at $300AU a session.

Painwise, I have been told I have a quite high pain threshold (lol I am a sub and a bit of a masochist so what's a little pain ) However I feel it more during my period so if you're worried about the pain don't have it done when you're menstruating
