“Hey David! Want to come watch the basketball game?”

“Nah dude, I gotta go to class” replied David.

“Alright, I'll catch you later you faggot.” said Rick as he laughed. He knew how much David hated being called that.

David wasn't always the quiet guy that he now was. And with his 6 foot 4 inches frame and well built physique, you wouldn't expect him to be so either. A basketball school team player and a topper of his class, you'd expect him to be the centre of attraction, the one everyone wanted to be. But it wasn't so. Not so long ago, he had a girlfriend too, but not anymore. Now he felt like there wasn't anyone around anymore. And there was good reason for that.

A few months ago, David met with an accident, leaving him on crutches and with scars covering the left side of his face. A bike ride gone horribly wrong. It wasn't even his fault they said. He was rushed to the ICU immediately and his parents were called. Two surgeries and three weeks later, he returned home on crutches, doubtful whether he would ever play basketball again.

But there was still hope, the doctors promised that with the right physiotherapy and a little bit of exercise he would be back on his feet in some time. And the scars too were beginning to fade. But while all this happened, his girlfriend had broken up with him for someone else. And that was the final straw. David shut himself up. He had lost his smile.

6 months had passed. He no longer used crutches but he still used to feel nervous when a bike whizzed by him. He had even forgotten how to flirt with a girl. He had his small group of friends and found that was enough for him.

He limped into his class, plunked himself down at the back of the room and took out his book. It was Literature class, one of his favourites. “Just in time” he thought and looked up when the teacher walked in.

“Good Morning class, Mr. Smith is on leave for the next month and I'll be taking the class, my name is..”

PM me if you're interested and have any good ideas. :)

"I can't believe I still get lost here..." the young woman muttered to herself as she finally found the room she sought. Holding the books a little tighter in her hands, she recognized she was nervous. After all, it was her first job, but literature had always fascinated her, even more so what it managed to mix Greek mythology in some way or other. Taking a calming breath, she entered the room.

She probably could've passed as a student if it wasn't for her clothing. She was rather small, only measuring 5'4", her dark caramel body looked toned, yet that was offset by the very Latin curves that graced her physique. Her long dark hair reached her lower back, curling at the tips, presently held away from her face by a small silver barrette on each side of her head. Her hazel eyes stood out of a face with delicate features, her lips pink and full. She wore a black pencil skirt that hugged her hips, the olive green silk shirt managing to emphasize her ample chest without making it look inappropriate.

“Good Morning class, Mr. Smith is on leave for the next month and I'll be taking the class, my name is Adrianna Romero.” Taking a look around the room, she felt herself relax. The students all looked attentively at her which, she hoped, meant they would actually be enthusiastic or at least like the class. Placing the books at one side of the desk, she leaned lightly against it and felt herself smile, saying in a rather playful voice "Now I know this class can get a little slow and even boring for some of you that might not have any interest in it, but I'll do my best to make you recover the least amount of sleep in my class."

As the laughs subsided, she gave instructions for each to write down a list of five books they would like to read throughout the course. The five that were mentioned the most would be the ones used in class. The list was also meant to give her a little insight on the preferences of each student as well as their level of reading. With that, she settled into a brief outline of the course.

David looked up when he heard Miss Romero's melodious voice instead of the boring drone which Mr. Smith seemed to have perfected over the years. He was taken aback for a second. This woman could have been a student and he wouldn't have been able to make a difference!

“Oh well, anyone's better than Mr. Smith I guess.” he thought. Although he had to admit, Miss Romero, with curves at all the right places, long dark hair and hazel eyes, looked stunningly beautiful.

And as the class went by, he realized that she wasn't half that bad at teaching either. She actually knew what she was talking about and enjoyed the subject. He listened attentively and hung onto her every word. Although she didn't get much into the course, he could already tell that he would like her class a lot more than Mr. Smith's.

Later, she asked them to give a list of 5 books which they would like to read.

“Argh” David, said to himself, “Why even bother, it's not like she's going to select one of the books I give anyway."

He hated those classes in which teachers tried to make the class 'interactive' by 'talking' to students. He just liked being in the corner, away from the attention. And these classes didn't allow him to do that. So, when she asked everyone to submit a list of books, he didn't really think much about it. After jotting down the names of some of the first books that came to his mind, he got up and picked up his bag. After waiting for everyone to leave class, as he normally did, he limped his way out.

On the way out, he put the piece of paper on the teacher's desk and walked away silently.

(In an untidy scrawl)

Name: David Greene

The rest of the day passed by in a blurr. She was shown the whole school, had a meeting with the rest of the staff and taught a few other classes before finally heading home. it was only late at night, after reading almost all of the papers that she found one that peeked her interest.

"David Greene," she read to herself as she felt a smile on her lips "aren't you a sight fore sore eyes? If I have to read another 'Twilight' or 'Harry Potter' I might just go crazy."

Deciding to have a talk with that student the next class, she settled into the bed and quickly fell asleep.

The next day the class had gone smoothly, reading some of William Blake's poetry to the class and discussing it with them. After telling them to read 'The Island of the Blue Dolphins' for the next week, she settled herself behind her desk. Her dark hair was loose today, her frame clad in simple black pants and a white button shirt, her eyes studying her class as they moved to leave behind her thin rimmed glasses.

"Mr. Greene? If you'd stay for a few minutes? I'd like a word with you."

David headed back home after the class. On the way though, he stopped by the basketball court like he normally did to watch the game for a little bit. Rick, who was on the court, saw him and waved.

"What's the score?" He asked Rick when he came off the court.

"22-51" he replied, "We're getting thrashed out there. Gawd, if only we had you on the.." he stopped short of saying anymore. He had forgotten about how sensitive David was about that topic for a minute.

"Yea. I know." David said, giving a sad smile, "What happens, happens. Eh?"

"Tell you what, why don't we go hang out today?" asked Rick, "We'll hit on some girls at the pub. I know a girl or two who have been asking me about you", he laughed.

"Oh haha Rick. That's very funny. Anyways, I'm off, there's this book I want to read before tomorrow's class." said David. Although he did find his friend's proposal a little bit appealing. With his 6 foot 4 inches frame, jet black hair and eyes, David knew he wasn't all that bad looking, even with the scars on his face. But that kinda stuff just didn't attract him as much anymore.

He got back to his house, flung his bag to a corner and after taking a shower, sat down to read that book which Miss Romero had asked them to read. And later that night, before falling asleep, he found himself thinking that it would be really nice it would be if she actually chose a book from the list that he had given. He chuckled when he thought how his opinion would have changed had she not had that hair and those eyes that he found so attractive.

The next day, the classes went by as usual. And even though he was wary of the fact that Miss Romero seemed to be more of an 'interactive' type, he still looked forward to her class. It was the last class for the day, and time seemed to pass by real quick in her class. They read some of William Blake's poetry, something that David hadn't read before and he found it to be quite interesting.

"Mr. Greene? If you'd stay for a few minutes? I'd like a word with you."

"What?! Why?!" he thought, "Is it because of the books I gave? Did she not like them or something?"

"Oh well, let's get this over with" he muttered as he went up to the desk.

As he went up to the desk, he couldn't help but admire Miss Romero's soft and delicate features. Her nose, lips and eyes seemed to be perfectly shaped. For a moment, he forgot why he was there. When she looked up at him, he stammered, " Umm, Ma'am. You wanted to talk to me?"

At his words, Andy looked up from her papers and felt herself smile. She had noticed him the first day, sitting half hidden by the rest of the students, but she hadn't been able to look at him properly. Her eyes took in his features discreetly before she stood and walked around her desk, leaning against it so she wouldn't have to tilt her head much to look into his face. He towered over her, which wasn't that unusual with her height, and she could see the intelligence in his eyes. Briefly she wondered why he was always alone, but thought that was none of her business.

"Don't be nervous. It's not something negative I'm going to say, quite the contrary." she said as she relaxed against her desk and took off her glasses, placing them on the desk. She was hungry and should have dinner soon, but she wanted to speak with him first. "Mr. Greene, out of all the students in my various Literature classes, you were the only one that picked the novels you did."

She let that sink in before she felt herself grin "I'm very happy that is so. You have excellent taste in books, but I'm afraid that put me in a bind. Most of the other students aren't quite up to your level." she said as she brushed her fingers through her hair in an unconscious gesture, feeling the tresses brush along her shoulders and chest as she continued "That gives me two choices. Either I give you the same material, which you would probably find boring or we could discuss other books to assign you and meet up after class a couple of times a week so we can discuss them and answer any questions you may have."

Walking towards the open window, she glanced outside to the grounds below, the afternoon sun feeling warm on her skin still. It would be a clear evening that night, it seemed a waste to spend it inside. Turning towards him, she noticed the way the light played along his skin and noticed his scars as well as the way he favored a leg over the other. The injuries didn't make him seem less handsome to her, it gave him more character, or so she thought, though she worried about him standing there and maybe getting tired. "The choice I leave to you. I would read the same books and we could meet here or elsewhere to go over the material. I don't think its fair to you that I hold you back because of the rest of the class."

He was thinking, "Let's just get this over with.", when Miss Romero had told him what she thought about his list. And for a second, he really didn't know what to say. He was confused because he didn't really expect her to say what she had said. And he definitely didn't expect to be actually 'talking' to her. All he wanted to do was get out of the room as soon as possible, and it irritated him that he couldn't. But he felt a little bit of a smile creep onto his face when he thought about her offer. It would give him the chance to actually 'read'! Not just any books, but books that he liked reading.

He realized that all this time he was avoiding eye contact with her. He slowly shifted his gaze to her and said slowly, as if pondering on what he should say, "Ma'am, Umm, I really don't know what to say. I'd hate to cause you the extra work." He looked into her eyes. It seemed like they were the perfect shade of colour. And they seemed to have this spirit of playfulness in them. He was captivated.

"But please don't get me wrong, I'd like to read more books and if you think that it wouldn't be too much of a nuisance for you, yes, I'd...like...I love your idea, Ma'am." Saying the last bit of the sentence with a little bit of a finality in his tone, as if it took him a great deal of courage to say it.

He dug his hands deep into his jeans pockets while he waited for her reply, hoping that he hadn't said or do anything wrong.

Andy felt her eyes go soft as she noticed the tug at the corner of his lips that was the beginnings of a smile. She could tell it was something that didn't come easily to him around strangers. In fact, he had seemed like he wanted to run out of the room since the moment she had called him to her desk. It surprised her when he turned and looked at her straight in the eye as he talked, though she noticed by his tone of voice that he was shy.

"Call me Adrianna or Andy... class ended some minutes ago. And I'm definitely not old enough to be called 'Ma'am'" she said with a small laugh as she walked back to her desk, putting everything in it's place "It's no trouble at all for me. I enjoy reading a lot. And, to tell you the truth, it will be nice to have someone to talk to in this town. I just moved here."

Locking the drawers, she grabbed her purse and gave him a sheepish smile "We can discuss what books you can read for the class whenever you have free time. Unless you'd like to come with me? I'm heading out to find a place where I can have dinner."

David couldn't help but smile when she told him to call her by her name. "I'll try to call you Adrianna then, ma'..", almost saying 'Ma'am' again.

"It's no trouble at all for me. I enjoy reading a lot. And, to tell you the truth, it will be nice to have someone to talk to in this town. I just moved here."

"Umm, then I'm ok with it, I guess" said David, avoiding the use of her name. "Boy, this is going to take some getting used to", he thought. A small grin had finally appeared on his face. He was beginning to like Adrianna. She seemed warm, friendly, and most importantly, she actually seemed to want to help David. And now that he knew that she in fact would like reading up with him, he didn't see any reason why not to accept the offer.

She locked the drawers, preparing to leave, and she looked up at his and said,"We can discuss what books you can read for the class whenever you have free time. Unless you'd like to come with me? I'm heading out to find a place where I can have dinner."

"Err, sure Miss Ro...umm, sorry, Adrianna."

While they headed out, he took a fleeting glance at her face again. Those eyes. They seemed to have such passion in them. "Just like Meg's..." he thought, his thoughts drifting to his ex. "No, snap out of it. She's gone now. And it looks like Miss Romero genuinely wants to help you.", chiding himself.

"Err, sure Miss Ro...umm, sorry, Adrianna."

"Getting better." she said in a playful voice as they exited the room and started walking towards the parking lot. Discreetly, she looked out of the corner of her eye at him, noticing the small grin which, in turn, made a smile of her own blossom on her lips. She was happy she could make him smile and, even more so, that he seemed to be getting a little more comfortable around her.

Stopping next to her car, she opened all the locks and slipped inside, strapping her seat belt. She waited until he did so as well before she turned to him, her green eyes watching him for a moment "Alright. Where do you suggest we go?"

"Umm..", David really didn't know which place to suggest. There was the place where he and his friends always used to go to. Cheap, good tasty stuff. But it really wasn't the place you'd go with someone you just met. "Especially not your Literature teacher, for Pete's sake" thought David. And there was this other restaurant, where you'd see all the couples going. So that wasn't the place either.

Deciding to go half and half, he said, "There's this food joint I know, an Italian place. Err, I really don't know if you'd like it though.", shrugging his shoulders. He still couldn't come to terms with the fact that he was sitting in the car of Literature teacher and was going to go for dinner with her.

He liked the idea of it though. He'd get to talk to her a bit more. And that thought really appealed to him.

He pushed his seat back, so as to get more room for his legs, strapped his seat belt, and asked her, "Umm, let's leave then, Adrianna?"

"Italian sounds great. It's one of my favorites." she said as she pulled out of the parking lot and drove where he directed her. Throughout the ride they talked, almost as if getting a feel for each other. By the time they were eating dessert they acted as if they had know each other much longer than two days. The restaurant itself helped set them at ease.

The building was decorated simply, the tables, chairs and counter tops made of dark red wood, the lighting not so harsh. The way the booths were build gave them a semblance of privacy, though not enough to make it a romantic place. It made her feel relaxed even as she opened up to him about her life. She had already mentioned she was from a small island in the Caribbean, that her family had sent her here after she graduated high school to have a better life.

"After I finished my BA, I got offered a job here." she said before she laughed "Though my degree has nothing to do with teaching and not much with literature."

She placed a piece of her cheesecake in her mouth, savoring it as she watched him "As for why I'm single well..." she shrugged a little, her eyes looking a little sad "Let's just say the first experience wasn't a very good one."

"What about you, David?"

Accepting her invitation for dinner, was a huge task in itself for David, but he was surprised at how easy he found it to talk to Adrianna. Soon, he didn't hesitate before calling her by her first name, and before they even reached the restaraunt, she had made him smile and grin with her easy going nature.

He knew that she was trying hard to make him talk to her, and he responded in kind. "I must try harder to talk to her", he thought, wanting to impress her with whatever little he thought he had. He told her about how he used to basketball, and about how he was the topper of the class, but avoiding the topic of why he stopped playing. He didn't know if he should really talk about it.

What if she didn't care?

They reached the restaurant, and sat down in their booth. They talked while waiting for their food to arrive,

"What about you, David?"

"Umm,.." David wondered whether he should tell her, "I did have a girlfriend, until recently.." drifting off. Before Adrianna could say anything, he said quietly, "I had a bike accident a few months ago, and that was when Meg, my girlfriend, broke up with me. The scars on my face that you see, and that limp you noticed earlier in class, are because of that accident." He looked into her eyes, "Oh well, girls are supposed to like guys with scars aren't they? Too bad Meg didn't think so.", trying hard to grin at his weak attempt to lighten the mood.

The waiter came up to their booth just then, David sighed. He didn't really know how to continue to conversation.

It was then David noticed that the top buttons of Adrianna's white shirt were unbuttoned, giving him a peek at her cleavage. He began to stare, and looked away soon enough. He just hoped she didn't notice where he was looking.

The young woman watched him as he talked, taking in the way he moved and spoke. It amazed her that even as he told her about himself, how he used to play basketball and had good grades, he didn't look or sound full of himself. Quite the contrary, he was humble about it, almost shyly mentioning each thing.

When he mentioned his accident, she waited a moment, allowing her eyes to take in his face once more. The scars didn't look like wounds to her, they were just part of his face, part of him. Smiling lightly, she placed a hand on top of his, giving it a light squeeze. "Well I think they give you more of that 'bad boy' image.... Guess I must be one of those girls." she said with a playful laugh.

Leaning back against her seat, she watched his eyes as they fixed on her cleavage before looking away, a light blush threatening to color her cheeks at the knowledge. Had he been checking her out, or was that just a normal reaction? Pushing the thought away, she continued to speak.

"You know... about the limp? Maybe you should try swimming." she mentioned softly, her hand moving to tuck her hair behind her ear in an unconscious gesture "I've had weak ankles since elementary school. After getting into the swimming team, my muscles got used to the movements and got stronger, so hurting them got harder. It should help you."

"Well I think they give you more of that 'bad boy' image.... Guess I must be one of those girls."

He couldn't help but laugh a little, and at the same time, he realized that, she was actually complimenting him! He couldn't hide his grin, it had been a long time since he heard someone say something nice about him.

"You know... about the limp? Maybe you should try swimming."

He watched as she tucked her hair behind her ear, "Does she know that she looks so god-damned cute when she does that?" he thought to himself.

"Hmm, yea, my doctor had said that I could try that out once I felt that I could." said David, "But the problem is, I'm not really sure if my leg can take it. What if I sink like a rock?", smiling as he said that. "I don't think I'd be able to find anyone to watch over me when I give it a try. My mom and dad are out of town, so..."

They were done eating by then, so they headed out, and got back into the car. Adrianna waited as David adjusted himself so that he was comfortable, and started the engine,
