Let's Talk About The Logical Fallacy Most Common Here On Lit

The appeal to ridicule is a rhetorical tactic in which someone tries to discredit an argument by mocking it rather than refuting it. Rather than addressing the evidence or logic, the speaker presents the opposing idea as so absurd that it supposedly doesn’t deserve serious consideration. In practice, it often looks like sarcasm, exaggerated comparisons, or jokes meant to make the opposing position seem laughable. The goal isn’t to prove the argument wrong, but to make the audience feel embarrassed to support it. For example, instead of explaining why a proposal is flawed, someone might say, “Oh sure, let’s just solve the problem by sprinkling magic fairy dust on it,” implying the idea is childish or unrealistic. The tactic can be entertaining and persuasive rhetorically, but logically it’s weak because ridicule isn’t evidence. An idea can be mocked and still be correct, or sound ridiculous and still be wrong for completely different reasons.

More specifically, it is closely related to Appeal to Emotion. Instead of addressing the truth or falsity of a claim, the speaker tries to win the argument by making the opposing position seem laughable, absurd, or embarrassing to support. The problem is that ridicule is not evidence. A claim can sound silly and still be true, or sound reasonable and still be false. So, to our friends here on the left, if someone first refutes the idea with evidence and then mocks it afterward, the ridicule is just a rhetorical flourish, not the logical basis of the argument. So in debate terms, ridicule can be effective persuasion, but by itself it doesn’t prove anything. I'm sure you all know who I'm talking to.
The biggest logical fallacy I've seen is people thinking that being a dick to other people is going to get them to take your side.

Why would anyone want to join a political movement that offers nothing but hatred and misery? That's all I see anyone offering here.

I would suggest that even if the argument hasn't been adequately refuted, it certainly has been debated multiple times prior.

The entire repetitive and renewal of the same arguments reads as a way to get around any counterargument by removing the previous instances. And those of us who have provided those arguments tire of repeating the same shit over a multitude of threads.

How many of the same arguments do I need to break out a new statement of evidence regarding racism and misogyny and what's the point?

Bottom line - Reichy seems to suggest that every time he posts the same argument, we must fall in line to argue it rather than point out the exhaustive bullshit that continues to be recycled.
You lie a lot. You don’t actually argue, you ridicule. And somewhere along the way, you seem to have mistaken mockery for refutation, because you’ve never actually addressed a single argument I’ve made.

Yesterday you posted a woman who showed vulnerability and was feeling lonely and you mocked her for it. A complete stranger that you don't even know from Adam.

Why would anyone want to be in your political movement when said movement wants to hurt people for wanting to be loved?

You lie a lot.
How many times have you posted a thread about feminists or liberal women to argue how they are the problem?
You don’t actually argue, you ridicule.
I do.
You just ignore it and focus on your feelings about your misogyny and racism.
And somewhere along the way, you seem to have mistaken mockery for refutation, because you’ve never actually addressed a single argument I’ve made.
I mock you because you incessantly post the same shit to whine about. You're not interested in discussion or debate.......you're wanting to express your grievances...and you do it constantly.

If you were interested in discussion or debate, you'd offer up policy changes outside of "get rid of all the Democrats/liberals/women/immigrants"....yours is nothing but grievances about culture.

Nobody gives a fuck about your whining bullshit and that's why you get ridicule and mockery as a response.

You deserve it.

When you post TRUTH ,you really could care less what anyone says. You really dont. The TRUTH NEVER CHANGES its simply the TRUTH. On the.other hand, lies can be proven simply by simple research. It didn't help with MSM blatently lying thru their teeth but people are catching on to their bullshit. Their ratings prove that and now it sure seems the right is kicking their asses in the information wars! Its a simple concept, DONT LIE! Lying gets you nowhere and the TRUTH ALWAYS COMES OUT AND THE TRUTH ALWAYS WINS, ALWAYS! Prove me wrong!

I mock you while proving you wrong. How are your multiple election fraud threads going? You perpetuated lies so we mocked you for your gullible dipshittery.

I'm sure you're coming from a vulnerable place on here, and I'm also guessing that's coming from something going on in your personal life. So I hope you do find the love you're actually looking for.

That said, you can't expect to spew nothing but hate on here and not get it back. That's the way people are, my dude.

I come on here to lurk occasionally and every time I find nothing but hatred and scorn from everyone on here. Everyone. The Democrats, the Republicans, everyone. Nobody here is offering anything. There's no reason to join anyone's party or movement on here. It's all just, "We hate you for not joining us, so join us."

And why would anyone join any of you with an attitude like that?

Let's be real, most of us are 40+ so we formed our political beliefs back before there were smart phones and constant bombardment from the internet telling us who to be mad at and who to despise. And at that time we formed our beliefs because of what the group was offering (Republicans offering safety and security post 9/11, Democrats offering workplace protections for all and personal freedoms to the marginalized). Now, there's none of that. It's all just people screaming and blaming the other party for problems that neither party wants to fix. If you ever talk to Gen Z, most of them didn't join a political party because of what was being offered. They joined one because they're convinced the other party hates them. And now they're bouncing back and forth from different parties as they become disillusioned with it all. They're choosing nihilism.

I'm tired of hating random strangers on the internet who have zero power over my life. Aren't you?

Trump, "Smart people don't vote for me." "I love the poorly educated."

Trump supporters, 'The left mock me for being dumb and having demonstrably false arguments. They're nasty.'

Hate is a LOT more fun than love.

This is an important and unappreciated fact of human psychology. And it IS politically relevant.
I don't know too many therapists that would recommend that course of action.

But maybe you should see what all that hatred has got us.
