I've heard that there is now a new libido patch ofr women who have a low sex drive.
Does anyone have any experience of using them and do they work?
My wife has always had a low libido, although she does enjoy sex when we get round to it.
We are in a very loving relationship, but she wants to feel more sexy and have sex on her mind more, well so do i :)
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy

I hear this plea from men on Lit time and time again. Could I suggest you consider several areas, since a woman's libido is tied up with so many different things.

Firstly, how well do you and your wife know her cycle? There are usually two peaks of sexual interest arising from hormones around the time of ovulation and the just before starting a period. Use those natural times to nurture your sex life.

If your wife is on a contraceptive pill or injection or is worried about becoming pregnant, all those will affect her libido, as will how she views the whole issue of sex.

How well is her thyroid functioning? If the thyroid is not producing the correct amount of hormone, all her sex hormones will also be affected.

How tired is she? Is she in a stressful job? Do you have a house full of kids (of any age)? Fatigue, stress, lack of privacy and pressure to "perform" will also affect libido.

Providing protected time for her to do whatever she wishes, without being interrupted or feeling guilty because she's not doing something else she should be doing will all help. If you have kids, train them not to enter your bedroom when the door is closed and get them used to the idea of Mummy and Daddy having an afternoon nap.

If you have kids, get rid of them for a while. Women respond well to heat, so take her somewhere warm where she can relax (but beware if you don't want her to conceive!)

Find an experienced medical herbalist your wife feels comfortable with and talk about what she might find helpful. Oatstraw infusions usually have very good results with women's libido.

Good luck!

Up here in Canada I've seen infomercials for something called Pam's Patch. That's all I know. Apparently it has a website but I didn't want to advertise something I know very little about or endorse

It seems like there are two main types: OTC patches that use scents, herbs, etc., and the testosterone patch that's for women who have had their ovaries removed and hasn't been approved by the US FDA yet because there are numerous safety concerns.

More than a patch, or any kind of "quick fix" Andy, I'd say it sounds like you and your wife need to communicate better, perhaps even go to therapy alone and as a couple.
