Lit Twitter

The centering bug had allegedly been fixed after the previous outage, only to later be proven more persistent than we initially thought.

So I think I’m gonna let the champagne cool a little bit longer.

It appears to be fixed on my stories, at least...

I used 25% width hr tags on Opposite of Jealousy, which was a huge problem because the first part of the story was a series of quick cut flashback conversation snippets, and the bug made it kind of incoherent 😔
That's definitely an issue. Hopefully this is it.

I was actually debating changing my separators for the next story and leaving them all left-aligned, instead of center. Maybe now I don't have to :)

Too obvious. An erotic writer is a rotter. That is in my jokes file already and will get used when the time is ripe. In fact I can put it in my WIP right now.

Yeah, but I'm optimistic about this one. I've now tested five different environments including Firefox on Linux, and all behave. And there ^^^^^ we have iOS, which I cannot easily test.

My prevailing thought, expressed last week, I think, is that the centering bug was in the core code library, and not something Manu could patch. Last time my guess it was an attempted patch plus user environment variability that led us astray. This morning's systems work must have been loading a new core.

I can only access to Xitter through Nitter, and that's view only. It's STILL BANNED IN MY COUNTRY, COME ON, IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS! How long could you hold that grudge?! The second in command betrayed you, and they stopped hiding it from us! Man I would expect this from two kids, not two grown men old enough to be my parents...

Anyway... I don't see any problems with Lit so far.

And not a single joke calling it "Litter"?

I expected better from all of you.

Purr...

When has a joke being too obvious ever stopped anybody here? Least of all me, clearly, judging by the fact I was the one who brought it up.

My dearest A, your first mistake was expecting that Twitter is any sort of functional website. Its days as a source of even semi-reliable information are long past.
Simply hearing from you, sweet Nynah, has erased the bad taste of going near the site today. xx Like many others, I did delete my account when it turned from incoherent but entertaining mess into an Agent of Satan, so that might explain why I can only see fragments there.

Never long enough. Ban it permanently everywhere.

While I concur that Xitter was always a shithole since its inception (like most social media post-MySpace), I can't agree with this considering it was used here as the only medium of communication online that people could use without dealing with both government propaganda, and stay anonymous enough to not be hunted down and imprisoned for posts they made online, as this was the norm for long before the rebranding. So important to us it was that people used it to quickly report traffic on the roads quicker than the radio since the BlackBerry days. Sure, those days are gone, but I rather have people shouting and having fights at the plazas than the dead of silence as those very same people are getting beaten down, stomped upon, and deprived of their senses under a dark basement somewhere just because they demanded gas on their neighborhoods.

But I'm just a cat on my last life. What do I know about being hunted down for no reason other than bad luck?

TThat might be all fine and pleasurable for your anti-Musk hardon, but if a website says they’re going to post status updates through some channel and then doesn’t post anything, it’s less of a political statement and more of another disappointment with the quality of its service.
I spent way too much time last night trying to figure out how to use Twitter without using Twitter instead of just going the fuck to bed. And then there was no status which is an old, rather sore peeve a lot of people have and I among them.

It looked fine on safari, I wonder which browsers hate it.

But then I may have been opted into the beta before finding your stories.

There was a disclaimer that showed up when I clicked lit this morning saying the site was undergoing a few hours maintenance and even had the countdown to when it would be back up and a warning that some things might take longer to get back on track.

What more were they supposed to do?

The complaint (not from me) is that they said to look at Twitter for updates.

Then they didn't actually post any updates.

I didn't complain about that either. But I don't complain a lot, or do I ? Hum, both Jo and Donnie say I do, but what do they know? Well, they know me, I guess.

More a comment than a complaint. But now I understand that there was an update, which was to the effect that they are doing updates, but possibly it isn’t visible to those who don’t actively maintain a TwitterX account. It’s not a biggie.

That countdown started at 6 hours, which from experience with other sites either could be the max maintenance window, a fairly accurate number, or wishful thinking that will actually turn into 8 hours.

Some places say 6 hours and it's down for 1:37 minutes.

It was late enough that many of you were in bed anyway, and most of the rest should have been.

I don't disagree, but remember that we live around the world! When it's midnight on Friday in Los Angeles, Sydney is finishing up on Saturday afternoon and heading to the bottle shop to stock up for a fun night.

In my brain the Pacific ocean is vast because when I had to cross it, it ate an entire day. And that wasn't even going diagonal across it.

It depends on which direction you went. One option is that it'd eat two days; the other is that no days would be lost at all!
