I'm not sure there are any needless things. Your illustration "needless to say" is indeed unnecessary, other than qualifying the statement that follows: "I've no need to explain to you ( because we're on the same side ) that blah blah statement" so needless is an abbreviation or a twiddly bit of language.

Are there needless things on Lit? The styling on the page headers and footers is needlessly grotesque though they're kinda retro quaint too. If people on Lit find a thread needless then it quickly sinks out of view; there is some needless thread duplication, but I think these things all add to the character of the place.

Leave our twiddly bits alone Chainey!

My example of something needless is when a couple that are together and it's public knowledge, go back and forth in a thread beyond just common banter. I have never understood it. When people not in a relationship flirt it's fun to watch those initial sparks of something new develop. And while public flirting for couples is fine, I think it's needless of couples to go on and on.

This morning's topic is: What is needless here at Lit. Now this is assuming everyone here is buying into the premise of Lit because, yes, Lit itself is probably needless (or is it?). What goes on here that strikes you as needless or unnecessary?
Needless? You might as well say superfluous or even gratuitous.
There are places that it's easy to put those labels on things. Places where there is a set agenda or protocol.
Wearing a leather corset and thigh high boots to a PTA meeting is probably needlessly provocative.
Here things are more subjective--different people are here for different reasons so what one person considers needless another may see as the whole point.

For myself the thing I need the least are the folks who come here just to tell other people they shouldn't be here. Beyond that? Live and let live.

I agree...it's really obnoxious. Start your own fuckin thread and act like 6th graders all you want. That way I can put it on ignore and not have to weed through your drivel.

NHL - the premise of the thread is to try and more clearly define what acceptable Lit , and more specifically PG(although PG was never clearly stipulated, just inferred). If what I described is accepted as the norm, then we all know. If it isn't, are we obligated to confine ourselves to the norms or should we push boundaries wherever we damn well please?

I agree with Chained and Slinger: act as if you've been there before. And don't get me started on oversigging

This^^^^^
I don't mind banter......even a whole page of it....
But pages.....as in dozens.....on every thread....
I know ....free speech....free site.....but I also know courtesy.....and berating other litsters for playing in a thread.....needless:rolleyes:

Ok....I'll step off my soapbox now

Needless, the animosity on Lit. Why? Judging every fucking little thing, forming cliques against people you don't even know.

I'm not talking about hijacking a thread, just in general.

I come here to have fun and post things that I like, etc. Not for attention, and definitely not for approval.

Why if you're comfortable being open and uncensored it's automatically categorized as something bad? Just hit ignore if you don't like it.

There's a really popular new thread right now where PG'ers are showing their faces for a short while. Kudos to all that have posted, I clearly would not. Is it paranoid up think that one post, up for 15-20mins, then taken down would/could ever come back to haunt? I think it's a combo of age, relationship status, good looks, and desire to be noticed, that has people posting. But for me, I just can't.

I'll bet you're looking at the pictures though, how ironic is that?

TeasyTongue made me pause & think.

Ugh. Here I go.

I used to think I was a post & let post type of Perky. Recently, I realized my tolerance has slipped...& I voiced my opinion to litsters that were driving me crazy. Ummm. Yeah, didn't go over well.

Do we post & let post even though it bothers us? Do we voice our opinion?

And, yes. I used that loverly iggie option.

I admit, I have looked, it's a fun concept but I just can't bring myself to post. Here's an honest question, should lurking be allowed or should there be an unwritten rule that there's a pay to play approach here, meaning if you aren't going to contribute, you shouldn't be lurking?

I for one appreciated you putting on your big girl balls and having a go.

I think it's okay to voice about a practice you find doesn't suit your palate. But addressing a person direct is a personal choice. I think as long as you can do it in a civil manner, avoiding calling someone a limp wristed bitch, it's okay but be ready for the blow back when you do.

I don't really care about lurkers...people to each their own....except......when someone has been a member for a bazillion lit years.....have less than a dozen posts and then p.m.'s me.I find it uber creepy.

If you are offering to pay, send payment to me

I guess it's good that I built up my post count first before being creepy with you ;)

Since I have experienced the hypocrisy and BS Lit can bring.
I just don't feel like dealing with it.

I so agree.

Don't worry... she thinks you are just creepy... not UBER creepy. There is a difference.

Haha....let me clarify.....
2 posts in the 'I wanna slave to pee on' column (to each their own).....
Creepy.....

Lustful....not creepy....;)

I thought my tolerance level was fairly high...but I too have posted when I've had enough. I will usually wait a while and just not post in that thread...but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I think as long as you're not an asshat about it, voice away.

I remember seeing the end of that and went back to see what the fuzz was about.

I just avoid them. In my opinion they could just do it over the PMs. I supported your post though, but from a safe distance, especially after watching their answers. I didn't think you stepped over any line. Their behavior in all those threads was a bit too much for me too. I just got more irritated at them after reading their response.

I think you did the right thing. You said it and once you realized that they didn't like it you moved on. As long as you don't do it in a rude and obnixious way I think letting people know that they crossed a line is alright.

It made me like you more if that's any comfort. :rose: Love it when people can stand up for themself, as long as they aren't rude about it.
