The PG is just that...a playground. Cool kids on one side and others looking in and trying to become part of it. Then you have the friendlies, who welcome you no matter what. Then of course the stoners......you know who you are! ;)
ooops... almost forgot those hunky athletes!

The personality of Lit is constantly changing. Sometimes noticeably, sometimes not. Describe what you think the personality of the Playground is.

My attempt: the playground is a sex driven site where innuendo reigns supreme but is slowly moving from a place that was the sum of the parts to becoming a collection of silos

When I first joined the playground was presented as just that. The equipment was for everyone to enjoy and everyone was friends with everyone. Lately though it seems people are forgetting the playground is public property.

The playground hmmm, it is full of sexual energy even tension at times but struggles to fulfil it's sexual potential. It has become an area of social cliques to which people can be left out purposely by these so cliques.

It was pleasant and at times still is but is slowly slipping into mediocrity due to bitchiness on both male and female parts. Instead of being a playground for all the sandpit has got a more cynical feel rather than playful feel to it.

For me it's always seemed like a sort of keg party.
There are people who stay together in their own little group and are pretty much happy that way, not very welcoming of others joining their conversation.
There are folks leaning against the wall with a drink commenting on everyone else from a distance--there more to observe than to participate.
Mostly there are shifting groups, conversations forming and reforming as topics and interest change.
There's a lot of making out in the corners.
The smell of smoke isn't tobacco.
Now and then there's a cat fight or a punch gets thrown.
Occasionally a couple of people get involved in a rather more than casual conversation that they decide to take elsewhere.

When you first get there it seems as if you'll never find your way. Some give up and go home others get the hang of it and start mingling.

Thoughtful post. Thank you.

There's a really popular new thread right now where PG'ers are showing their faces for a short while. Kudos to all that have posted, I clearly would not. Is it paranoid up think that one post, up for 15-20mins, then taken down would/could ever come back to haunt? I think it's a combo of age, relationship status, good looks, and desire to be noticed, that has people posting. But for me, I just can't.

*smiles* Quite a few of your regular posters (me included) show(ed) their face in that thread (for a while).

I don't think it is paranoid. I live in a small european country, not too many from there are on lit, of that number even less visit the PG so I deemed the risks my face might haunt me sometime quite small.

For me it was (is) nice to put faces to nicks. I think the same is true for quite a lot of the others who posted their face. From some I have heard the voices on Oxforddon's "Voice" thread, as they have heard mine (vocarroo deleted mine a while back, a year is their max it seems).

And the compliments were a very nice bonus.

Hey Chained, it's been a while.
Since I have already posted on that thread, I cannot argue against it.
I wish I did not have to hide my face on lit forum, but I do and this thread was an opportunity for me to properly introduce myself and to enjoy the excitement of doing something risky. It was kind of liberating. :)

For me, it's just a fun thread and a chance to share something personal. It has NOTHING to do with the desire to be noticed....I seem to do that just fine without that.

I have nothing to hide, and if someone recognizes me then it's no harm no foul.

Of course, that doesn't work for everyone and if showing your face for a few minutes can destroy you, I dunno maybe this isn't the right place to be.

Or one simply shouldn't show hers/his face.

Isn't it a bit naive to think that a face pic is the only way to discover who someone is?

Nope, you are right. But I am not that paranoid to think someone is going to find out my IP, from that and the few scarce facts I sometimes post, my address and then is going to cause me problems.

I agree and was considering saying the same thing but didn't know how to word it.

A few people here are under the impression that I might be pretty.
I don't see any point in shattering that illusion.
:D

Maintaining an illusion of mystery is not such a bad thing ;) but I avoid sites like Facebook because so much harm can come from it. People (women) get targetted by creeps who could be living opposite you and once your face is on the web, it's there for ever. So forgive my paranoia but it's a 'need to know' thing for me.
... and come to that, I'm not actually that interested in how someone looks: maybe I'm just too used to the internet via Tumblr and Lit? I seriously judge people by what they have to say, not how they look.

LOL

I think people were under the illusion that I was a lot younger than they thought...then I posted the pic for 15 minutes....Aaaaahhhhhh!

I have a different perspective on this. It seems a fun thread, and I'm glad people are having a good time with it.

But, for me, I post photos of myself elsewhere here where I am not wearing much, if anything, and to post my face anywhere could indeed be enough to do me harm. If someone recognizes me, it's a problem. People who have posted in AmPics have had real life stalkers and lost their jobs for revealing too much of themselves - I take a risk posting over there, but I take precautions by never revealing anything above my mouth, and I don't share my first name.

I also say things here I don't necessarily want linked to me in real life. I think people come to Lit for different reasons, and so naturally feel differently about how much or how little of themselves they're willing to share.

To each their own, and I fully admit to posting pictures for attention, so certainly don't judge anyone if that's their motive for posting on that thread.

If I showed my face, my opponent would use it against me in the primary.

I post because I'm a nut.. I've posted revealing pics..I've posted pictures of my face. I posted pictures of my face before the divorce, and obviously after as well.

My take is, it is what it is. And it should be fun.

I happen to really like knowing what people look like. I do, however, understand when you're hiding here, you might have seconds thoughts.

*quickly goes to read the conduct manual from work to make sure she's not violating something* :/

Well Said.

I am one who posted...I think it's only fair to share when so many others have. Peeking without sharing isn't my style.

I don't need to be noticed...although I'll admit that the handful of compliments I got were awfully nice to hear. I'm no beauty - I don't wear makeup, I don't do much with my hair, I have virtually no feminine wiles lol - and hearing "you're pretty" was a little ego boost. :D

Then again, I have nothing to hide. My guy knows I come here and he's fine with it....and I figure that anyone else who sees me here....well, they're here too, aren't they??

I agree with Sam (but I don't have AmPics.

I do have pics of myself, and kids and hubby all over facebook and instagram. I am not anti having my pics online. I share things here, my husband would not approve of, so if some of those things made their way back to him, I would have hell to pay. The pic I posted here is actually my FB profile pic so it is view able to the public anyway... I just don't want it linked to me IRL. I don't want someone coming up to me in Albertson's when I am with the family and saying... "Hey aren't you Little Sis from Lit??"

Good morning Litiquetteville. Needless. An interesting word that more often than not is used improperly. "Needless to say" than why say it. A newspaper article claiming a "needless shooting" as if there are shootings made out of need. But that's not the topic today.

This morning's topic is: What is needless here at Lit. Now this is assuming everyone here is buying into the premise of Lit because, yes, Lit itself is probably needless (or is it?). What goes on here that strikes you as needless or unnecessary?
