London's Shield (Steampunk/Supenatural Victorian Era) PM to join

Johann Regenstein

"Excuse me, but who is this Mr Gray that you talk of?"

He was busy eating of the food when he heard the name and it immediately pricked his interest.

"He is not a vampire yet seems to work with them? That means he must not have much of a problem working along with those heartless, soulless beasts."

((OOC: Actually there is such a thing as vampirism, just those who suffer from it doesn't have fangs or supernatural abilities. So if they want to be logic...bamf you just got served :D ))

Another day, another beat.....

Traglafar Square. Normally a place where the inhabitants of London could stay and be entertained but now, it was a veritable hub for gossip. As all the people couldn't stop discussing the recent murders of this Jack. All as though it was something to be proud of, to be interesting.

It disgusted Officer Hugo Fowl to the core.

Having joined the force some time back before the murders began, Officer Fowl had enjoyed his job. He liked meeting new people, enjoyed helping others and was proud of his countrymen whom for the most part, only partook in the odd drunken brawl or petty theft. But this? It sickened him immensely, and not just the murders itself. No, it was the reactions.

All these fine folk in their rich houses, all cozy and warm, all of them gossiping over the killings without any thought to the poor women who died, or was forced sometimes to do what they had to out of sheer survival. He liked some of the women there, though he had never accepted their offers out of respect for his dead wife. He even looked away or helped them out sometimes and to see the Ripper go through them and to see his society watch and make bets as to when the next would occur....It disgusted him.

Deciding to head back to Scotland Yard Station, he turned to leave but then paused to look at his pocket-watch.

Damn. He was still on duty. And snapping it closed, he went back on his endless patrol again....Only an hour more before he could leave and back to his family...

Catriona Gallager

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Catriona continued to listen as she ate her breakfast. While Catriona never met Dorian Grey, she certainly heard of him and a part of her hoped to never meet the man. She just had an uneasy feeling about it. Soon she finished her meal.
"Miss Zahlena, I am done now. May I be excused? All this talk is making me a bit uncomforable." she said honestly.
If she had more useful abilities, perhaps she could have staid longer, but she really felt she wasn't of any use for this group so she thought it best just to leave the talking to themselves. A part of her hated her uselessness. Part of this was because she couldn't do anything to save her own family.
Finally finished with his shift, he walked back towards the yard and checked in. Once done, he would then have his customary dinner at the pub before walking back home in Whitechapel. Smiling at old friends and other denizens before walking into a group of the working ladies, who upon recognizing him began to tease him.
"Oi Fowl, gonna chain me up? I've been a bad girl lately...."
He shook his head and spoke.
"Aren't you always May? Listen, this whole thing thats going on? Be careful alright? All of you, stay in groups and don't wander off alone."
He scowled and for a moment, it made him look different. Almost....Angry.
Sensing his mood, May would break character and speak.
"I've 'aven't lived all these years to be chopped up by some looney with a knife. Don't you worry Hugo, you just go on home. Play with your boy, get some rest. We need you up and fresh, seeing how your the only one helping us."
There was a slight note of bitterness in her tone before she smiled and spoke.
"Go on now. It costs extra to chat."
Chuckling, he tipped his hat and continued on to his home.....
((I'm not sure that vampirism as a diagnosis was something they had in the Victorian era. But yes, there are some people who crave blood and they think that may be where some of the vampire stories come from.))
((And so sorry Johann, I thought I had posted an answer for you already. I probably did it from my phone and it didn't take.))
"Mr. Dorian Gray is a very pretty man who looks as innocent as a convent virgin, and yet is rumoured to participate in such debaucheries and abuses of his person, as to be quite unbelievable." Bahiya said. "There is much speculation as to how he accomplishes this. I have often wondered if his relationship with his vampire friends is the reason, but he is no vampire himself."
"Miss Catriona, I'm so sorry. I suppose I have become inured to these things over time." Bahiya answered. The poor dear, she had a delicate constitution.
"Mr. Regenstein, I asked you here because I think our little group could use someone with some brawn. What I'm going to tell you is extremely confidential. I must have your word that if you choose to say no to joining us, you will not tell anyone else about this meeting or our group." The fact that Jeeves was an accomplished mesmerist and would ensure that Johann would not be able to tell anyone was her backup plan. But from the sound of it, Johann was already on board.
He nodded his head,
"He keeps his youthful looks all through the years, yet is no vampire? That has to be an interesting tale as the only one that I know is from Norse mythology and come on, drinking from a well after offering a life is just nonsense, there must be a reasonable explanation, energies combined with chemicals was always seem as magic,"
he grinned,
"But then again somebody turning into a hairy monster during the full moon has something to do something in the blood, everything seems to be about blood with these monsters."
He shrugged,
"After mister McCraik spoke to me I was hooked, apart from struggling to get past that brogue of his of course. So where do I sign?"
"There are rumours that Mr. Gray has found the Fountain of Youth, or perhaps the Holy Grail. But I truly cannot see the man going to any effort to locate such things. If he has some magical elixir, then he more than likely paid someone to steal it for him." Zahlena said. "All is conjecture with him. But I do know he consrts with vampires."
Zahlena looked at Johann with renewed appreciation. The man had brawn, but he also had a mind. A very good combinaiton and one the Shield could use. "I do believe you are right. So many of these things seem to revolve around blood."
She chuckled, "No need to sign anything. We will take your word that you will not tell our secrets. So glad to have you on board." Zahlena smiled a warm smile and put out her hand to Johann.
Of course, her butler would be listening in to all of this to see if the man were lying and if so, his memory would be erased. But so far, Johann had passed the greatest test--that of believing and wanting to help.
He chuckled,
"The Fountain of Youth? Here in England? That would throw a cog in many believes and I doubt that a man of virtue would consort with vampires as a man of purity is the only one who can find the Grail."
He held up his hands,
"Well of course I am only recalling what my grand father told me as a very young child, I may be wrong. My grandparents was what you would call hunters, they knew that the tales about the Black Forests wasn't just tales, that there was creatures that had to be killed as they are the spawns of evil."
He watched Miss Gallager as she excused herself, curious about her, but knew that in time he would get his answers.
"Thank you, I hope that I will not ever let you down."
He took her hand, so small compared to his and gave it a very gentle squeeze, before letting it go.
Zahlena chuckled, "I believe the tales say the Fountian of Youth is to be found in the State of Florida in the United States of America. I only meant that it is possible that Mr. Gray has found some means either chemical or magical, or perhaps both, to maintain his innocent looks. That he consorts with vampires is an interesting sidenote."
"How interesting that you come from a line of Hunters. I am sure you have some idea of the horrors we face. It seems we were fated to be in the pub to see each other." She went on.
"Only thing is that I only know the tales, never saw nor met any of these creatures. But that will not deter me, I aim to be a valuable asset to the organization and learn how to kill these creatures. There is no reason for the people to really have a reason to be scared for things that go bump in the night."
His mind was set, he was going to part of this organization and he was going to do the best he could to his abilities.
Zahlena gave the large man a warm smile. She briefly wondered if everything about him was large--if he were...proportional. "I am pleased you feel that way. We have had far too much experience in killing all manner of monsters. In fact, I will see that you get your own kit containing all the basics for dealing death to monsters."
