Erika had been married for three years now and she loved her husband. He made her happy but his work was beginning to take priority. Erika thought she was his priority, but as of late, it didn't feel like that. Her husband was a surgeon and worked long hours. Erika poured herself a glass of wine and sat down on her patio. It was their third anniversary and he was working, again. He didn't even send flowers this time. She looked into the next yard and saw her neighbor. She knew that his wife was a lawyer and was gone from home most of the time. She felt her eyes swell up with tears, knowing her husband forgot their anniversary. She wiped her eyes so her neighbor couldn't see them.

ooc: send a sample PM. Thanks!

Matt had been married for a little over seven years now but wasn't quite sure if his marriage would last another seven. About 2 years ago, the small-time law firm that he and his wife Carrie had worked (and met) had fired him but kept her. After he had gone through his severance pay looking for a new job, he had finally taken a part-time job at a local law school, proofreading tests and legal briefs. His shift took place in the dead of the night, from 11 PM to 3 AM, once all the students and professors had left.

The work was boring but the pay was decent. However, it meant that he and his wife now spent less time together than they ever had before, and their marriage was straining because of it.

He had spent the day doing yardwork to take his mind off of his problems, and after taking a shower, was standing on his patio with a beer.

Looking over at the next house, he saw Erika was also sitting on her patio, but with a glass of wine in her hand. While not a nosy person, he and his wife knew their neighbors well enough, and he had noticed that the young couple, who had seemed so in love when they moved in, now spent less and less time together.

Feeling sympathy for her at their similar situations, Matt walked up the chest high wooden fence that separated them. He hesitated for a second and then called out to her, "Erika. Would you mind if I joined you? Looks like we could both use a drinking buddy."
