I mentioned in another thread I can't seem to be able to finish my stories that I started and have on hold...

Another idea I had about finishing them would be to find another artist/author to collaborate with and maybe send the work to you with my ideas on the next step, but to maybe also take the advice of another to help me get/ keep me motivated to get this work finished!

Any ideas on this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Having written several stories with three different collaborators, I can say that a request for a collaboration is possibly not going to work.

Generally speaking, based on the collaborations I know that exist (including my own experience), they've tended to start more organically, with fellow writers having a friendship of one sort or another, before hand.

You might get lucky, and I wish you well with your request, but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

I'm not!

Thanks for responding...

But, you're 100% correct, and I'm Not holding my breath, I'm just trying to throw everything I have at the attempt to get these stories off my desk and into Cyberspace.

These are old stories I started ages ago and I want them to get published and I figured asking for help was a good way to get my brain kick-started and back into gear!

Maybe it'll work... Maybe it'll flop...

There's ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT!

thanks for the response

He’s just [reasonably] setting your expectations. I’ve collabed with a number of people here, all were after we’d established a relationship first. It’s a very intimate thing to collab on erotica, and trust and boundaries need to be in place.

Also, to give yourself the best chance of getting someone’s attention, it would be useful to point out:

  1. Categories / kinks explored
  2. Style of writing - literary, emotional, slow burn, fuck-fest etc.
  3. Typical length of work
If you have examples of stories you have published, please post a link here, might help.

Good luck 👍

Emily just beat me to it, but:
You could start by saying something about what you already have, i.e., how long are they, what genres, what kinks, etc. You could also try and explain why you are blocked.

Rather than find someone to take over the story, how about just finding someone to bat ideas around with?
"So here's what I've got done. Where does the story go next?"
This is a very helpful type of relationship. The type of niche I do isn't really in very many people's ballpark, but I found one who gets it, and we help each other out at times when one or the other gets stuck. Just having somebody who's on the same page as you, who can help from anything from a simple ra-ra cheerleading to "I need someone to read this to make sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot." (Which I'm very glad I asked, because I very nearly did without a gentle nudge away.)

Hang around, get to know some people here, and reach out to those who share your interests to strike up a writing relationship.

Or, like Rob said, Story Ideas is great as well if you want something more immediate. I'll even try to keep everyone human if I participate 😆 (Unless you write non-human, in which case... :nana: )

Depending on the category, I have a number of people I inflict my half-baked ideas on who help me out; too many to mention them all. And I’ve not written a thing of substance since Coleoidphilia without getting @Djmac1031 to run his (ultra-picky - sorry, hun 😬) eye over it.

These relationships really help to sustain you as a writer - and occasionally as a person.

We have a story idea forum where you can do just that.
Would you mind providing the link?

Hey, better for me to be "ultra picky" and let you decide whether or not something is in error or could be improved than to be lenient and let something potentially sloppy or in error go through unchallenged.

its why you like me editing. 😀

If you could just put this cage on, hun… I’ll keep the key 🔑

Good news / bad news. Ill give the bad first.

Bad news is: Its really, REALLY hard to find an author to collaborate on a story with.

Most authors are not only simply busy either writing their own stories when not dealing with their day to day real life. But most are also not really interested in working with another author, especially if they dont know that person well enough.

You'd need to find someone you -
A: Get along with.
B: Have similar writing interests with
C: Are willing to take advice / accept criticism from. Which can be easier said than done.

It's not impossible. @EmilyMiller and I have had an amazing working relationship together. We regularly proofread each other's work, pitching ideas and suggestions and critiques to help improve them.

We've also co-written several stories, and heavily collaborated on several others. We get along well, even on the rare occasions we disagree about something.

But we're an anomaly, really. It really doesn't happen all that often. Although I have heard of a few other creative partnerships around here, authors coming together to cowrite a story, or several. So again, not impossible. Just... unlikely.

The Good news: finding an editor is easier. There are plenty of folks willing to help give a story a proofread and help spot any errors or offer their thoughts on it overall.

Hang out, get to know some folks. Read their stories, see who's writing style you enjoy and ask their advice. Im sure most would be happy to give it.
