  • $50 Billion bail out
  • $700 Million in tax breaks, just last year
  • Billion in stock buy-backs for the 0.01%
  • A profitablle plant

And still the Lordstown plant is closed by GM.

So a pretty simple policy proposal: No more federal contracts for GM or companies that exhibit similar behavior. Repeal the tax breaks.

For the record - These are the same people to whom Tiny sold MAGA hats in 2017 and preached to the residents "I'll tell ya what, I rode through your beautiful roads coming up from the Airport and I was looking at some of those big, once-incredible job-producing factories, And my wife Melania said, 'What happened?' I said, 'Those jobs have left Ohio.' They're all coming back. They're all coming back. Don't move. Don't sell your house,"

I hope they don't buy the same bullshit in 2020.

Odds are that if they bought it once, they'll probably buy it again.

Sad but true. They live in their own reality-distortion zone now.

Nice avatar, Bob. Looking forward to your liberal friends’ outrage. I’m sure there will be outrage. Surely it won’t be overlooked because you’re “one of them”.

I'm sure that the fact that people aren't buying Cruze's, so the plant is only running at 32% capacity, and that's the only car they build there, has anything to do with it.

They should of course, keep building the Cruze, at a loss, in spite of tax breaks, bail-outs, and concessions from the union. Of course!

Or....just blame it on Trump.

What's to be outraged about?
Wahoo McDaniel was a helluva rassler.
You don't like pro rasslin'?

Isn't that exactly what Donald told them to do? So...do you support Donald's view...or GM's?

Again, the Cruze was a shit car. Has nothing to do with Trump. The Auto industry restructures all the time when car lines end.

trump alone can fix this.:rolleyes:

Actually if you want to get political about it, Obama got great press touting the Chevy Cruze as the car of the future, yet it was so far off of market demand they can't hardly give the car away.

I support my view.

The gov't should subsidize anything. Not coal, not oil not natural gas, not green energy, and certainly not auto manufacturing.

If GM can't turn a profit at that plant, in spite of all the cost reductions they pursued, and put in place, and the tax breaks they got from the gov't, then why keep operating? Are you familiar with fiduciary duty?
Hard to turn a profit when nobody is buyin' what you are buildin'....huh?

So.....what do you thing they should have done?
This is not a matter of simple approval. It's a matter of understanding the facts.
May not be pleasant, especially for those right in the middle of it....but sometimes, life ain't pleasant.

I am already on record...shut the plant down. My understanding,
though, is they weren't losing money...love to see the books...kinda like tax records huh?

An assembly plant running at 32% capacity, building a car that even leftists won't buy.....
And my understanding, is they were losing money. Think they'd a shut 'er down if they were rakin' in the dough? Also.....makes nmo sense.

It's like a lot of things....they are efficient, and costs are low when they run close to their designed capacity. When they start dipping down below 75%-80%, not so much.
That includes everything from something simple, like an AC inverter.....to a manufacturing facility.
I'd bet they were losing money.

I see it all the time. See, when a plant doesnt have to pay taxes of any kind...kinda hard to lose money. Even at 32% production. How can this be? No reason for me explain the economics since you tried to school me earlier. Like I said....love to see the books. Whom to believe? An angry person that hates America? Or the news?

In 2017, the Union at the Lordstown plant offered 118 million in concessions to increase profitability to that of the GM SUV plants. GM turned it down. Their response? We want to invest elsewhere where we have MORE profit potential. Fair enough...but dont take tax breaks from the city and give bonuses to the suits.

The plant was not losing money...but it was not making the money seen in SUVs and trucks.

Is GM an angry person who hates America?

Want me to explain how manufacturing works? I have a lot of experience.
Want me to explain how gold mills work, or copper....lead/zinc.....I have even more experience.

Your premise is, they got tax breaks and were making money and shut it down for......????
What reason again? Your premise is bullshit.

But....it's an opportunity for you to blame Trump, which is what you do.
Ignore the plant operating at 32%.
Ignore that even leftists like you, won't buy a Cruze. This is THE KEY FACTOR. You cannot make money building something that people do not buy. You cannot make money, selling something for less than it costs you to produce. As someone in the mining biz....I can tell you all about that too.....we deal with that more than you have a clue about. Or is that concept over your economic genius type head?

It's all Trump's fault. Of course. You suffer from TDS, and EVERYTHING is Trump's fault.....including your impotence, stupidity, and male pattern baldness.

Who bet on them?
Government? The entity that knows all, sees all and predicts all?

No they did not turn it down.
They took it, and still shut down, and that's why the union is suing GM.

I will take it that you lied about seeing their books for the plant then, saying you would like to, and have, and can now decree, that THEY WERE MAKING MONEY.

Share those spreadsheets with us please.

If you're asking me, do I want to vote against this economy in favor of going back to the Obama economy, a more Socialized economy or whatever Mayor Pete is selling, then my answer is, no, I'm not voting Democrat. Their green record was far worse than GM's...

GM is still in business.
Solyndra and its cousins got wiped out by the Chinese.

Its amazing how people twist everything into their own political agenda or opinions. I live in Ohio and pass this plant once a week, know more about it than most on this board probably would.

Its nothing other than bean counters at GM saying Fuck You, we dont care. This would have happened under any administration.. Republican, Democrat or Mars.
Big Business is Big Business. They go where they want. Do what they want. Even if it isn't logical to anybody but them.
