It's a subtle form of trolling involving usually "bad-faith" questions. Settlements happen when the cost of trying to win a case exceeds the monetary value of the defense costs. Consequently, a company pays out the amount and moves on without admission of guilt before a trial verdict is rendered. Trump did, on numerous occasions. He calls it the cost of doing business. Lie and move on is among his modi operandi.

ABC was pragmatic in resolving the token amount. Trump wasn't interested in a verdict, was he? If he was, he would not have agreed to the settlement based on your reasoning.
