Carl is is speechless after all that has just occured. He is concerned for Miriam, and hopes she will call her father to let him know she is ok. And he continues to be amazed by Mary Kate. She seems to be such a wonderful, caring person. How was he lucky enough to walk in here? He doesn't really believe in fate, but this is just one heck of a coincidence. "Are you ok, Miriam? I'm sure you are feeling quite emotional right now. Your world has been turned upside down by moving to this strange place and leaving all your friends. I would offer to buy you a drink but the laws here are not like where you are from." Carl gets up and puts his hand on her shoulder, "Everything will be ok." He walks behind the bar and pokes his head through the kitchen door. "Sorry if I am trespassing, just wanted to see if there was anything I could help with. I am pretty handy in the kithchen", he says with a wink. "Want me to whip up something quick? And by the way, you are an amazing woman, if you don't mind me saying so."

"Well I'm just glad you are ok," Carl tells her with a smile. "I am actually new here in town just like you. I just moved here from the east coast and started a new job, so I am trying to learn about the city and make new friends just like you."

"Well welcome to town", Carl toasts her and clinks her glass. "If I weren't old enought to be your father, I would offer to explore the city with you. But I will invite you to stop by my restaurant, La Maisonette, for dinner sometime. You can even bring your father if you want, and I promise not to talk with him about European food all night."

"Well welcome to town", Carl toasts her and clinks her glass. "If I weren't old enought to be your father, I would offer to explore the city with you. But I will invite you to stop by my restaurant, La Maisonette, for dinner sometime. You can even bring your father if you want, and I promise not to talk with him about European food all night."

The young lady stands up , stares at carl mischeviously.

"Speaking of escort, I hope you will allow me to make sure you get home safe, either by cab or I will take you. A young, beautiful girl should not be out on the streets alone this late at night." Carl wonders to himself what is keeping Mary Kate. "Well I was going to ask her to show me around. I only met her tonight, but I am already quite taken with her. Her and her father are coming to dinner at the restaurant. I am going to see if she needs a hand in the kitchen." Carl gets up and goes to the kitchen door.

The pub is now parfumed with the flavors of flour and baking cakes

Sit at the bar , Miriam ,sucking one of her hairs locks, is all her soul in the book she reads.
Her fair and slender legs slowly going back and forth., her moving skirt revealing innocently the white laces of a petticoat.

Carl walks up behind her and peers over her shoulder into the cupboards. "Well I hope to make you very used to compliments, and I only give them when they are deserved", Carl says with a wink. "I see everything I need right here, but I should probably focus on the cake for now. All I need for the cake is sugar, flour, eggs, and butter. Also, I'll need some amaretto from the bar. Do you happen to have any cream?"

She shivers and blushes at the closeness of his body to hers. She can't deny the sudden spark she feels. But before anything else can happen she ducks away a bit and answers aware that she is still really blushing.

Nervously she says: " I think you will find the cream." Trying to distract her thoughts she asks: "Have you ever made an Irish Creme Bundt cake before?" "Perhaps I should go check on our birthday girl?" and she starts to leave the kitchen but doesn't quite make it.

She shivers and blushes at the closeness of his body to hers. She can't deny the sudden spark she feels. But before anything else can happen she ducks away a bit and answers aware that she is still really blushing.

"I'm sorry...wwwhat did you say? I feel so silly I know you just said something but I don't have the faintest idea what is was. Please forgive me you must think I am behaving like a school girl."

I am just as amazed and scared by what I am feeling as you are." Carl just realized he is still holding her hand. And all he can think is he doesn't want to let it go. He steps closer to her, and reaches up with his other hand to brush a stray hair from her forehead. He slides his hand down her hair, down her cheek, and says "Is your heart pounding as hard as mine?"

As he places her hand on his broad chest she can feel her heart leap to her throat. She looks anxiously and longinly into his eyes. Somehow finding the words to speak she says breathlessly: "yyyes"

As his hand slides down her cheek she closes her eyes almost as if wishing he would just kiss her. "I, um, have never felt this way before" she says her voice quivering with anticipation.

She starts to pull her hand from his but stops and looks away. "I would like it a lot, staying to help you that is. If I won't get in the way." her hand still in his.

SHe bends and grab her cell phone.

A few seconds after, the young girl voice becomes unsure, shivering.
Words are exchanged briefly,emotions shared in voices and non said words, restrained sobbing tinting her voice .Discretly with her finger she wipe off a teardrop shining under her eye.
" Aurevoir Isa tu me manques aussi"
Wiping another teardrop , she put away her phone .Elbows on the bar, her face hiden in her hands , she is looking at the walls , thinking , dreaming.............

Mary Kate feels her chest tighten and she can't breath. Time has all but stopped. All she can feel is his soft touch, warm lips and a well spring of emotion flooding her body. As he pulls away and speaks her hand is drawn to her lips where his touched hers. She tries to catch her breath to speak and she reaches for the counter to steady herself.

Breathlessly she says. "Sorry, oh no don't be sorry! I was hoping you would do that actually. I have thought of nothing else since I first saw you, wondered what it would feel like. "

"I can't believe someone as amazing as you doesn't have a line of guys trying to go out with you, or maybe you do, and your Dad has scared them all off." Carl looks into her eyes and wraps his arms around her, then squeezes her gently. "Have you ever hugged someone and just felt a perfect fit?"

Carl wipes a tear from under his eye. "I will step back for a moment and let us both catch our breath. And you are right, we do have the young lady out there waiting for her cake. I would hate for her, or worse yet, your father, to come in here and see us in an embrace."

She laughs at the thought of her father finding her in the kitchen with a patron. "No Da would probably throw a party and want to know when the wedding is...giving you the family legacy and suggesting names for the 10 grandchildren we're going to have." She laughs with her eyes dancing again.

"You are such a dear sweet man. I wish time could stand still and savor this moment. She catches his hand as it moves from his face and kisses the moist spot where the remains of the tear stain it. "Alas dear man we do have a young woman waiting and I think no longer patiently on a party. Shall we finish what we really came in here for?"
