In the long history of the Academy no human had ever been valedictorian. Humans, as a species, rarely made it into the academy anyway. Too few had any affinity for magic. Horth, a dark elf, was not going to let Jack, a human, win even if he had to cheat to do it.
And cheat he did. With a magic muffin. The hex on the muffin couldn't be too obvious. Foul play couldn't be suspected.
