It describes marital rape, and this ain't it. It's doing something for your spouse even if you're not in the mood. I'm not usually in the mood to take out the trash, change the oil in the car, or be a taxi service for the kids. Guess what? I still do it. In return I'm doing my share to have a clean house, a happy car, and enjoy hanging with the kids.

This is truth. I maintain an open mind to sexual things things I've not tried, but the reality puts me off. I really need someone to help me understand how one can ignore the feces involved, no matter now minute the amount. I'm not a dirty bitch, I scrub up downstairs...but, c'mon, right? And I have a dishwasher in my kitchen JUSSAYIN.
On topic, I've told the story before about when an ex noticed I was fussy and offered up the box to get me back on track before party guests arrived. It worked, not only that but it struck me as a sweet and selfless thing, memorable because of the kindness. So I think I would be in the maintenance sex camp even though sex is of middling importance to me.

Maintenance sex is important and it's not just women who withhold sex - men do it as well. I loved the comment earlier about the starving partner.... that was me, and now I'm divorced. It leads to resentment, lack of communication, distrust, and a whole slew of issues.
With that said, there is a difference between maintenance sex and marital rape. Only a pig would suggest otherwise. There still has to be a level of consent in maintenance sex. I may not WANT to go to the grocery store, but no one is forcing me to go. If you are forcing your partner to have sex and they have made it clear they do not want it and have made attempts to evade you, you're an asshole and a rapist.

it's not too hard of a fix, just a dirty line, but it was decided the kids needed to learn how to properly wash dishes. for the time being, it is staying broke. that just means i am constantly on everyone's ass to do the dishes.

I do agree that maintenance sex is an important thing and could ultimately save a relationship. Much like you I have been in a relationship where I have been starved of sex and yes the scars run deep.
However, maintenance sex is sex without heart / lacks passion and so a level of emptiness must be involved after. Intent is everything.

I disagree. Maintenance sex may lack the passion but doing it because you love your partner gives it heart. It is possible to get satisfaction from their pleasure and contentment even if you don't have sexual needs at the time. It's just a different way of seeing things.

One never knows where maintenance sex may lead, either. What might start out as "oh sure, why not?" can turn pretty hot sometimes.
