You can —and likely will — still become aroused in a cage, engorged. But the confines of a cock cage, or least one whose base ring remains close to the pelvis, simply won’t permit a natural erection, the extension and thickening of the penis. In practical terms the engorgement backs up internally some…within the body or at the base ring of the device. It’s generally not comfortable when that happens, and I think that restriction tends to limit the duration of those instances of arousal. But as has been pointed out, that tightness doesn’t necessarily make it an unpleasant experience. Depending on what you’re doing it can be a turn onI have the same thought. I would like to know how it feels to be turned on without being able to get hard. Does it feel good? Does it add to the anticipation? But like you, my wife wouldn’t want it. I don’t want to be controlled by her, just want to feel the sensation of not being able to become fully erect.
You make a very good point about the sleeping thing. And in a vividly accurate way. Those are precisely the kinds of erections— super hard and sustained— that occur in the unconscious mind. When you do make it through a night caged and actually have a decent sleep you’ve really done something! For sure, a confining cage, well positioned, base-ring-snug-to-the-pelvis is absolutely required. That probably means a strap or tight fitting briefs to reinforce the base ring. I find it also helps to empty your bladder and to have not ingested much water close to bedtime. We've used cock cages for me on and off for over 10 years. My wife loves my cock so she usually can't go very long without unlocking me. On and off is important as hygiene requires taking off the cage and washing yourself at least every 24/48 hours, even with open design metal cages. I do prefer the weight and feel of a nice stainless steal cage. Trying to get hard does cause some minor discomfort. The one exception to that rule is when you are sleeping. A persistent attempt to get hard while dreaming will hurt and wake you up. Just speculation, but to me it seems like if I am awake, my brain knows that I can't get hard and eventually I stop trying to get hard. But while I'm sleeping, there is no conscious thought telling me to that I can't get an erection so my cock tries for prolonged periods of time to get hard, then comes enough pain and discomfort to wake me up.
