So I get that you've lived in Seattle your whole life, but that doesn’t mean your perspective is the only valid one. Plenty of people who also live there now or have for decades were deeply concerned about SPD’s actions and pushed for reform. And it’s not just Seattle, it's Minneapolis, Portland, Chicago, and many others faced the same reckoning. The common theme wasn’t “abolish all police,” it was frustration with abuse, lack of accountability, and broken trust.

And honestly, it's a little convenient to dismiss those concerns when it’s probably not your demographic being routinely harassed, profiled, or ignored. Just because it hasn’t happened to you doesn’t mean it isn’t real for others. That’s not media spin, it’s reality for a lot of people. Think about that.

Writing it all off as media spin or outsider ignorance ignores the real, lived experiences of thousands of your fellow residents.

I agree with most of what you've said. Fortunately, I'm not in the demographic that's harassed. Unfortunately, I'm in the demographic that's been under fire for just living for over 3,000 years. In this area, we are constantly persecuted for who we pray to.

Just like you don’t want your faith judged or mistreated, others don’t want to be profiled, targeted, or ignored because of their race, age, background, or neighborhood by authorities.

You said you're not in the demographic that's harassed by the authorities, that’s exactly the point. It's easy to overlook something when it’s not happening to you. Recognizing someone else’s struggle doesn’t take away from your own, it just means you care enough to see beyond your own experience.

Mamdani is definitely a hottie. I can see why a lot of people are swooning over him. But his antisemitism is a dealbreaker for me. Not just the “globalize the intifada” crap but his social media posts making fun of Jews.

I was disappointed that the city of New York did not release the Democratic mayoral primary final precinct results as they promised to do so by August 1st.

The New York Times has sources in the city bureau of elections, and reported three very distinct trends in the mayoral primary:

• Virtually every White voter under 30 voted FOR Mamdani
• Viturally every Jewish voter of any age voted AGAINST Mamdani
• Virtually every Black voter of any age voted AGAINST Mamdani

The last bullet point raised an eyebrow for me. The Times said the Black vote was likely a protest vote against NY Democrats who routinely promise to reign in the increasingly lawless NYPD's "stop and frisk" policies that targets non-whites. I guess that makes sense. It remains to be seen if this anger translates into Black people voting for a Republican mayor.

Fun little story: Mamdani sat down with a large group of Black pastors for a policy discussion last week at the largest historically black church in Harlem. Mamdani off-handedly remarked that he'd helped out at church "feed the hungry" Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for years. The Black pastors collectively nodded their heads and silently mouthed "Bullshit!". None of them could recall every seeing Mamdani on the premises.

....After Mamdani left the meeting, the pastors convened to review church security footage of the last few Thanksgiving and Christmas charity dinners......

.....and there was Mamdani, doing exactly what he said he had done.

Nothing flamboyant, not promoting himself, just rolling up his sleeves and getting to work. He was just another guy, helping out.

The black pastors told the NY Times about this. I am believing more and more that this guy is the real deal.

I predict nasty AIPAC and their minions will have a very hard time slandering him.

Yep. One of the rare instances where Elon Musk is correct. Navarro has a PhD in Economics from Harvard yet seems to not understand the basic law of supply and demand taught in Econ 101 classes around the world.

Honestly, why wouldn't it be? For over 40 years now, the Republicans have won one election after another by saying they could somehow cut taxes and balance the budget at the same time. They're wrong and the record has proven as much again and again and again, but it sounds good to low-information voters.
