Mandy, Mindy and Me (Closed Thread)

Mandy

"You've said so yourself, so many times, the only way to end this was if I confront your father, but you're wrong. The only way to confront this is if you talk to him.
You tell him, you tell your sister too. You tell them everything."

She rolled her eyes at that. This quack really thought he was a boyscout?! No one with any brains would stand up to her Father. Not even herself.

"I used to ... used to try to tell them ... but ... No one listened ... no one cared to listen ... and in the end I just stopped trying ... " Mindy sounded so sad, so defeated.

Typical Mindy. And really who would listen to the mouse when the Lion roared?

"They wouldn't want "me". Everything I do is wrong. Even with Mandy ... "

"P-Pardon?" She sat up straighter in her chair, her icey cold stare on her sister's face.

"Everything you do is wrong.. with me?" She huffed and glared.

The ungrateful chit!

"How could you.. How is it! Damn it Mindy!" She stood up, her full height, glaring down at her sister, her wrath knew no bounds.

"And who do you think has been their puppet all these years and done every single stupid meanial chore to please them!? And WHY did I do it?! I'll tell you why! Miss picked-on Mindy! I am so fed up with this wounded bird routine! I really am!" She snarled at her sister, her hand fisting into her little shoulder bag, tempted very much so to throw it at something or someone.

"I did all that slave labor so they would leave you alone! But all I ever heard is "Why can't you be like Mindy, Mandy?" and Mother's all-time favorite, "Melinda's always on time, prompt in everything and so smart. You'd do well to be like her!" And then I have to listen to Father contradicting Mother!" She fumed, her mind swirling so fast and out of control she couldn't even sort her thoughts into coherant sentences any more.

"And you! Always so smart and calm and perfect in everything! Even the guys who called to date you!" She fumbled and stopped there, instantly there clammed up. Mindy had dates arrive but they never took out the real Mindy.. No they'd gone out with her.. Almost every single one.

"I don't have to take this any longer, I am leaving. Good luck with the guilt trip Doc." She stuck her nose in the air and marched out of his office.
"Call me a cab!" She snapped at the receptionist, still fuming. She'd given up so many dreams to keep her parents eyes off of Mindy. Been a mindless puppet! Done everything they ever demanded of her! And for what? A sister who .. hated her?

Well she did ask for her sister's hatred.

She sulked mentally as she thought about all the wrongs they'd all done to each other... all except Mindy who never had a vengeful bone in her body.. The only wrong Mindy ever did was be born with a knack for learning faster and much more than she herself did.

Jealousy? Of her own sister? With her face?

Yeah. She couldn't deny it. She wanted to be Mindy, be accepted by her Mother as easily as Melinda had been. She'd been her Father's lap dog to keep him happy as well as tried to earn her Mother's love and at the same time took out her frustrations on Mindy, got no where but miserable.... The harder she tried to please her Mother, the more she failed.. Mindy was the reverse! Why hadn't she seen it? Because she was selfish, so her mother said. Her father wouldn't notice selfish, to him it was a quality, not a flaw.

"Fuck'em!" She muttered as she paced.

Connors walked to his intercom, "Send her back in, Cindy. No... it's all right. Just some family issues. She'll come back. Yeah, don't worry."

Connors sat down beside Mindy, holding her hand over his, "Mandy is going to walk back in here. And, I want you to do two things for me, all right? I want you to speak with her, openly and candidly about what just happened, and how she treats you. Now, I know it's not going to be nice, and it might hurt, but I think your sister at least deserves the truth."
He gave her a smile, nodding politely, "The second thing I want you to do, is listen. She'll speak back, but don't be afraid. She has some issues with you too, she's been protecting you for a long time. It's not easy for her to just give up on you, and let you be your own woman."

Melinda - Mindy

"How could you.. How is it! Damn it Mindy!

Mindy flinched as she listened to Mandy’s tirade, all but disappearing into her chair as the angry words went on and on. The words washed over her, but did not seem to make sense. Mandy their parents’ puppet? Trying to keep them off her back?

"I did all that slave labor so they would leave you alone!
But all I ever heard is "Why can't you be like Mindy, Mandy?" and Mother's all-time favorite, "Melinda's always on time, prompt in everything and so smart. You'd do well to be like her!"

Mindy shook her head. That didn’t make sense.
Mandy was the bright one. The one they liked, the one that pleased their parents.

"And you! Always so smart and calm and perfect in everything! Even the guys who called to date you!"

Mindy stared at her sister.
Mandy had all the guys. She had always gone out on so many dates.
She had no idea what she was talking about.

”Manda … ?”

Mindy tried to get her sister to come back as she stormed out of the room.
She had had enough. She was leaving.
Mindy looked around at Doctor Connors in panic.
Now what?!?!

"Send her back in, Cindy. No... it's all right. Just some family issues. She'll come back. Yeah, don't worry."

He was so calm. His intercom clicked and became silent.
He hadn’t hurried after Amanda, hadn’t tried to get her to stay.
Mindy knew her sister better than he did.
She wouldn’t be back.

"Mandy is going to walk back in here. And, I want you to do two things for me, all right?”

She shook her head. He was wrong. Mandy was gone. But he didn’t stop. Why did no one listen to her?!?!

” I want you to speak with her, openly and candidly about what just happened, and how she treats you.
Now, I know it's not going to be nice, and it might hurt, but I think your sister at least deserves the truth."

Mindy sighed. It was useless to argue.

"The second thing I want you to do, is listen. She'll speak back, but don't be afraid. She has some issues with you too,.
She's been protecting you for a long time.
It's not easy for her to just give up on you, and let you be your own woman."

Mindy glanced towards the closed door.

”She won’t come back Doctor. There’s no point in all this.”

She pulled her hands free from his.

”None of what she said made sense.
It’s HER our parents approve of. SHE was always the one who went out dating.”

She reached for her bag, making ready to leave.
If her sister could, so could she!

”This has just made things worse … “

Mandy

She didn't get out the door as she had hoped, a taxi was never called!

The twit of a secretary informed her that she had to go back in there.

Since when did someone tell her what to do?! Who died and made this paper filer her boss?

And then she thought about all the swirling emotions inside and that she had left Mindy to that Doctor's whims!

What if Father found out?

WORSE! What if Mother found out?!? There would be such hell to pay and her ass would be on the line.. NOT Mindys!

"Fine!" She barked when the secretary reminded her a second time they wanted her back in the office. Storming would have been more dignified than the stomping she did, but she went back into the office. Or more importantly, she stepped inside the door frame, but halted. She'd stand her ground, and no bossy shrink or his go-fer were going to tell her otherwise!

"What is it you want now?" She demanded.

Melinda - Mindy

"What is it you want now?"

Amanda's voice stopped Mindy as prepared to rise from her seat.
Her sister had come back for her!
Her relief turned to concern as she noted Mandy's uncompromising stance at the doorway and the way she challenged the doctor.

"... 'Manda ... we ... I ... need to talk ..."

She stammered, quaking under her sister's stare unintentionally throwing an look to the doctor for reassurance.
It made no sense. He was the last one she should trust.
And Mandy hated the guy ... and so did she ... of course ...
Didn't she?

Mandy

Talking was dangerous, they both knew that and yet Mindy was going to 'talk' anyway.

Lord help them if she said anything negative about their parents!

"Talk about whatever you want Mindy, I have no desire to speak about anything further." She stressed her words as she glared at the interfering Doctor.

She moved away from the 'cozy' little pair and sat back in a chair as far from them as the room allowed. She facial features were set in stone, her mind made up. She wasn't going to 'sling mud' in here, she wasn't going to get sentimental and cry baby'ish neither!

Picking lint off of her outfit, she didn't bother with giving her sister any attention.

Yes it was done on purpose, the complete disreguard for whatever was troubling Mindy. She didn't want to get into those emotions and pains.. because once a wall begins to fall, if you aren't careful and don't patch it up, you get disaster areas! Which was her personal feelings she'd locked up.. a disaster area.

Mindy

"Talk about whatever you want Mindy, I have no desire to speak about anything further."

The dismissive words were a slap in the face.
Melinda threw a pleading look at Amanda, yet it was ignored.
Mindy watched helplessly as Mandy seated herself and looked anywhere except at her sister.

The meagre scrap of courage it had taken to admit that she wanted to speak to her sister dissolved.
She couldn't do it!
Mandy shook her head mutely and wrapped her arms about herself, drawing into the chair and away from Doctor Connors.

Tears fell, pouring down her cheeks in a silent, steady stream of defeat.

And so both sisters sat, neither even acknowledging each other's presence, let alone attempting to communicate.

Mandy

"Well?!" She snapped after a full four minutes of silence. It was wearing on her nerves, this sitting here and saying nothing.. doing nothing!

Her face was impassive, without a single hint to what was boiling within her mind. How she was trained to be. But her eyes were on her twin's, watching and waiting for some signs that her sister wasn't defeated.

She'd have a long wait at this rate since Mindy wasn't cooperating. Doctor-know-it-all wasn't even being of assistance. Who in the hell gave him his license?

"You get paid for this?" She indicated her sister's bent head and silence as she studied the Doctor. "And I thought my father was a crook!" She gave a little chuckle and shook her head. Still Mindy did not speak, she seemed to shrink even more into a ball.. if that were at all possible.

A chime in the corner tolled softly and for the first time in a few minutes she seen the Doctor move. Giving them another appointment, he wasn't going to just let it go without at least trying. But what there was to try and work out was anyone's guess. And if it would ever happen as well.

"Let's go." She stood next to Mindy, waiting as patiently as she knew how, which wasn't much when it came to her sister's antics, and off they went for home... Together. In complete silence and not a single glance at the other.

OOC: I waited for Pooh Mari, but I don't know if he's still here or not. With no posting, I'd say no. Should we cast the doctor again?

OOC:

Hiya Sweet!

Thanks for replying.
I have no idea what's happened to Pooh ... we've waited a long time.
Unlike him.
Perhaps he's lost interest.

I think you might be right.
I could post an OOC asking for pm "applications".
We need a sympathetic Doctor character of course.

PM me with any suggestions/ideas you have for recasting.
I'll consider a public OOC.

*huggles*

Nice to be "playin'" with ya sis!

Or... someone could have just sent me a PM, asking what's up.

I don't know what everyone was waiting for me for. I set it up so you'd talk to each other. Didn't see any reason to post for the moment.

And then, people stopped posting all together, before today it's been, what? 2 weeks? I thought everyone else lost interest, posts have been slowing down ever since late September. Turned into a trickle, and then just stopped.

I hope you find someone better. Good luck.

To Pooh ... and Sweet ...

Sorry Pooh, neither of us has seen you in IM or around.

Yes the posts have slowed, but mainly because Connors has just left the sister characters to get on with it.
Given the character situation, the idea was to get a three-way conversation at this stage.
The doctor was intended to guide and act as go-between.
We'd been working towards this scene since we started.
We've struggled to post without your contribution.
The sisters are not gonna "spill" the beans, hugg and make up.
The "reconciliation" process or whatever was the whole point of the thread.
We needed questions and guidance.

As for your parting comment:

YOU of all people should know that it's NOT a case of "finding someone better".
You were our choice as the doctor from the beginning of the thread, that comment is uncalled for and unnecessary.
Writing is always about sharing an idea with a like-minded "friend".

That said, perhaps a "new start" is in order.

Sweet, I'll write a further post outlining what I have in mind and IM you when I next see you.
Give me a few days to redirect and "recast"?
Let's discuss the next step via PM / IM?

Meanwhile any input from readers or plot suggestions is welcomed - via PM please?

Btw - Thanks for sticking with this Sweet!
It's great fun writing with you!

I think the main problem for me was that, I'm really not a therapist, and I don't know how much they go through in sessions to get people to talk who really really don't want to talk.

I mean, I'm a good writer, and I can do what I can... and I knew this wouldn't be easy. But, there's a difference between this not being easy, and this being very difficult.

No one has even tried anything. It took me backdealing, pleading and stubbornness to even get you two in the same room. I just don't know what to do, how am I supposed to play if everyone is against me?

And, again, I know, it wasn't supposed to be easy. But, I didn't even get any leeway here. We're still on the same page we were when we started. What is the point? It just, for me, was so frustrating, especially when Sweet's character left. I felt, ok... I am not accomplishing anything, I'm not doing my job.

And I know that's not what your intention was. This wasn't my character against yours, but it seems like that's what it had become. I turned out to be the bad guy just be default. And it's frustrating, and hurtful to do that, especially when this particular time, I'm trying to be the good guy, you know?

So, when I said, find someone better, I meant it. Find someone who's a therapist, or has been to a couple of sessions and knows what to do. Find someone who can take the patience and keep coming back time after time when nothing works. I kept trying... for the longest time, but I've run out of ideas, I've run out of steam, I don't have anything left.

I just think the point of the plot was to move things along. You know, you get to one step, and you move to the next. But, we're still on the first step here. We haven't made it to step two. And you can argue that it's my fault, I wouldn't disagree with you if you did, but if no one is willing to want to be here, if no one is willing to do anything, how am I supposed to do it for you?

I think that's what I was waiting for... I was waiting for someone to change, or make a choice, or something. I could jump in on that, I could do something with that. But, if not...

Well, like I said, someone with more experience could probably do it, not me.

OOC:

I started this thread, but it was intended as a joint adventure.
(For the three of us!)
This is the first I've heard that we lost you along the way.
Apparently we weren't "like-minded" afterall.
Happens sometimes.

A lesson re: the need for communication learned on all sides.

And in the spirit of communication, can I just point out that:

YOU have not been blamed for anything.
YOU were not the one that had to employ:

<<backdealing, pleading and stubbornness to even get you two in the same room. I just don't know what to do, how am I supposed to play if everyone is against me? >>

It was your CHARACTER!
(And sorting that out was the whole point of the thread.
We had discussed that at length at the beginning, or so I thought!?!)

Thanks for the analysis... belated though it is.

I think we're all guilty of being dissatisfied with the way this was going and were waiting for a change.
All things work for the best.

Sweet and I now have alot of plotting to do ... and I'd really like to redirect this thread back to the STORY in hand.

Sweet, let's continue to communicate via IM & PM?
I'll make my next post here this weekend to provide a transition to the new chapter of our story.

And Pooh, thanks for your forebearance, especially since this has been so difficult and unrewarding for you to write.
