Marie's Favorite Things

It's hard to not get too attached when they're a good person. It happens over time or occasionally very quickly. But Lit is transient. There's nothing long term that ends well.
I disagree. Depending on how we’re defining “ends” here. I’ve had relationships that started off hot and erotic and they moved into a deep friendship. Do we still get turned on seeing a notification? No, but it’s replaced by a warm feeling of friendship.
The key is to enjoy it while it lasts and to not mourn when it diminishes. Easier said than done, but the good memories will remain.
True. With all of life. We’re human. Growth and change and stress are good for us. Trying to hang on to a current phase forever just leads to sadness and disappointment.

You're right, in certain circumstances. I've had some re-spark when the time is right. Some just fade away though, which makes me sad.

But I want to love them and hold them and squeeze them forever! 😂

So true. There is beauty in change but it’s tough to let go and then nostalgia is hard to shake.
But I want to love them and hold them and squeeze them forever! 😂
This! I feel you on this in so many areas of life.

Speaking in terms of Lit and other online sites…

Some of them are transient, sure. But the best ones? The best ones have simply become part of my life. They own a piece of my heart.
  • Person 1: 20 years later, still some of the best memories (and sex) of my life. One of my best friends, and I’d still bury a body for them.
  • Person 2: 20 years later, still cracks me up, we interact on LinkedIn, and things still get spicy sometimes.
  • Person 3: 5 years later, and I still get excited every time I see a notification from them. And I’m looking forward to things getting more exciting and intense. So much delightful anticipation.

Absolutely enjoy every minute while it’s happening, because nobody knows what the future holds or how long we have. But in terms of things diminishing, I don’t think I really look at them that way. They change, certainly. But with the great ones, change isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s an evolution, and it’s not a one-way street. Things ebb and flow, and each phase can be exciting and fulfilling in its own right.

Really well said. Couldn't say it with more wisdom myself.

Well, now I know what I’ll anxiously obsess over before I fall asleep tonight 🤪😆

Kidding!
Kind of.

I do think sometimes things can end amicably or transition into a different kind of friendship. I’ve been through that. It’s not been without its own challenges along the way, and certainly can be dependent on the reason for things ending, but I think it’s possible if that’s what both parties want.

Easier said than done, but the good memories will remain.
Are you able to enjoy the good memories when something ends badly? I find it taints it for me. IRL and online, because if I see the person in a different light based on how they behaved at the end, I see the whole thing in a different light. Maybe that’s not fair of me.
