Hey Maryland!!

Happy Saturday to all!!! I've had a very very busy day. I woke up this morning at 5:30 to go down to Dorchester County, Church Creek to be precise, to see a breeder of Boston Terriers. And I decided to get one!!! Its an excellent breed of dogs and this particular line is full of American Champions and even two that are 3 generations back that were American and Canadian Champions (for those of you that follow dogs and publications, April's edition of the American Kennel Club Gazette magazine features the sister of my pup's father or my pup's Aunt on the cover and the women whom I'm buy from has had many of her dogs in other magazines and books on Boston's). I'm not a dog shower or anything but in this case I'm getting him for not that much more then I could get a pup with less pedigree. At first when I spoke to her she didn't even mention that she had this other puppy from her prize litter. She was keeping it a secret but we became quick friends and she like the way I had done my homework and asked as many questions as I could . He's only 37 days old so I'll be getting him in 4 weeks when he's bigger and ready to go to a new family. I'm really excited! He's going to have his fair share of accidents and such but these dogs have excellent temperament and I'm positive he'll grow into an excellent dog and friend

MoZ, congratulations! Are those the dogs that look like bug-eyed bats? They're so cute. Awwww, I wish I still had a dog, except for the poop walks every morning and evening, in all kinds of weather, no matter if I'm deathly ill with the flu. I bet he's going to be cute. You must post a picture of him as your AV when you get him. Will you crate him for his training? How will you housebreak him?

Crate training is important, especially for his own safety when he is still small and he has to be left alone. Also, it helps when he needs to be taken for a ride and such. At first it feels and looks cruel but in reality its always been in dogs nature to find a little place to hole into for safety like a cave when they were in the wild so it just capitalizes on that instinct. He'll need to be gradually introduced to it but hopefully he'll learn to treat it as his own space. Eventually, I hope to not have to use the crate much but it will always be important. The good thing is that he will probably only be between 14-18 lbs. so they come in small sizes compared to other types of dogs. Housebreaking is something that I am still looking into, I have a few weeks to lay down a plan. I'm reading my books and such, and its been really helpful. Any ideas would certainly be welcome
