Perhaps this is a peculiarly English trait, but I find the idea of 'making an effort' somewhat off-putting. As others have said here, wisely, it is easy enough, given motivation and time, to spot those faking their personalities. Be yourself. Just make sure that self is effortlessly charming.

You can change the outside with clothing and make yourself presentable, desirable; but what you are inside will come forth sooner or later. If you feel there are improvements necessary, start there.

I've noticed! But, this is also a good thing for the OP to see! Some women find a good sense of humor to be fascinating! Usually, if a man can make a woman laugh, then he has their attention.

It's charming, as was mentioned previously.

You could go to the gym, lose weight, buy shit loads of new clothes and restyle yourself for someone who may have never looked at the real you in the first place.

Or you could just be you and true to yourself. If another person can't see past the material things and see deep inside you then they are not worthy of you in the first place.

I think in large part this is also about attitude. How you look at the world, how you embrace each day. Be happy and treat people with kindness and respect, wear clean clothes and a big smile and that's most of it!

First off let's quantity this. Are you looking for long term or short term? If it's long term you better be looking at more than the physical wrappings. That my dear folks is the long intricate dance. If it's short term it's what gets your hormones raging and that don't take this rocket science to figure out. Back to long term, the whole package baby. How they look, how they dress, how are there manners? Are the knowledgeable? If so how much breadth is there? Are they easy to talk to or sarcastic as he'll? On and on it could go into the night, but this old man has met a lot of women around the world. So now, what say ye?
