Merry Christmas. Got snow?

All of the strange weather in the west, and now the east. They say the storm in the east was from the west and it made its way across the country. We had a mild case of rain that kind of froze on the streets, and a couple days of light rain that never materialized into snow. Oh, I think we had a little bit of the white stuff just about 50 miles north of us, but nothing like this storm should have unloaded. I guess it went north of us, up into Nebraska and Iowa when it went across the mid-west.

I do know we heard our share of threats from the weather crews for about a week that we were going to get dumped on. We waited, and waited, and they kept threatening, but nothing much happened. On a recent morning, I did hear one weatherman say that we only got a dusting from the storm. But, in the little humor portion of his weather cast (they all are such comedians) he actually said "but we got to milk it for a whole week".

12 to 20+ inches here. With 30mph to 50mph gusts of wind.

In NYC with over a foot of snow and drifts of snow 3'-5' high. Planes, trains, and subways all at a stand still. Think it's a good day to walk a few blocks to a museum.

We were in the last snowdump like that. Walked down 5th like it was the middle of the park, it was awesome.

I'm sure it was. I'm thinking Central Park would be gorgeous today, but with no boots I'm not trekking through it.

Why am I only minimally surprised at that? ;)

LOL!! In addition to having bad New Yorker habits (I learned to jaywalk there when I was a kid), I also love subways. I would totally be going "YES!!! Legit reason to walk in the tunnels!!!!"

That's what 9th was like during the blackout back in 2003. Never saw it so empty. I imagine 8th had more traffic, but 9th from midtown to Chelsea was a ghost town.

It essentially missed me. Christmas night when I was leaving relatives to head home, about 30 miles NW, it was snowing. It had just started. After 5 miles the snow stopped. After the storm that did hit the east moved through, places to my SE had 14 inches of the stuff...... Sorry all....

After having sent out resident Socialist to Washington, D.C. in 2008 (see Dom, Writer) and most of our snow to the District in 2009, this year Chicago has turned its generosity on New York City. So far this year we've kept less than 6 inches of snow before passing it eastward and on Friday the expected high temperature will be 50F. Might be a good day for a light jog in the park. ;)

First white Christmas

I woke up Christmas morning to about 2" of snow on the grass, but none on the driveway. It was totally cool! And it melted by about 9:30 or so. Then we had flurries off and on all day, but never really got any big flakes and none of it stuck. All the joy and none of the problems! Granted, in the 17 years I've lived in Mississippi, I think I've seen snow stick at most 3 days. It just doesn't stay cold enough long enough here.

Happy New Year {{{{{{Yankee}}}}} :kiss::heart:

Yes, even though cloudy yesterday was really nice. However, today the cold has moved back. :) And yes it was so good of us in the midwest to share with the east coast this holiday season... ;)

REALLY strange weather here in the mid-west, the last couple of days. I work nights so that's what I'll talk about. Last night it as about 15 degrees above, which is pretty normal for this time of year. But the night before, it was almost 60 degrees, thunderstorms, hail and tornado watches! Well, it is the mid-west and we have weather like this, from time to time. Tonight is suppose to be around 12 above, which again is normal. But I think it might get warm again, sometime next week. I don't know about anybody else, but I think this is one weird winter.

What's that phrase people keep bringing up...um, global something or other?

Chicago picked up some snow overnight. This is courtesy of a friend whose husband was called into service to do snow removal on Lake Shore Drive overnight, where quite a few cars had to be abandoned. Accidents blocked the road and slowed down traffic so much that the snow, which fell at a rate of four inches per hour during the evening rush hour yesterday, embedded cars along the road.

It was 75 on Friday; 60s through the weekend.

A 'Norther came through overnight on Monday... rain, then freezing rain, then sleet, then snow. I woke up yesterday to a wind chill of -5.

Right now it's "warmed up" to 17 outside (with gusts up to 30MPH); the high today is going to be 20. Temperatures aren't supposed to get above freexing until Saturday...

*sigh*

I know, I have a good friend in your part of the world who is absolutely chilled to the bone right now.

Stay warm CM!

Rolling electrical outages for the entire state, too.

I was off yesterday and spent the day at home baking bread and making soup. I double checked before risking the roads and going into work today... Yep! We were opening at 10am! Except that by 11:30 corporate had decided to tell the closing crew to not bother coming in, and by 2pm we were closed. It was totally not worth the stress of driving on ice. lol
