Merry Christmas. Got snow?

Rolling electrical outages for the entire state, too.

I was off yesterday and spent the day at home baking bread and making soup. I double checked before risking the roads and going into work today... Yep! We were opening at 10am! Except that by 11:30 corporate had decided to tell the closing crew to not bother coming in, and by 2pm we were closed. It was totally not worth the stress of driving on ice. lol

I just got back from a trip to the gas station to buy more fuel for the snowblower and many of the businesses I passed - even a couple of gas stations - were closed. Many of the schools around here have elected to remain closed tomorrow as well. We've not seen a snow plow on our street all day, so the only passage is a single-car wide path that's packed down but with a few inches of snow to make the trip a bit of an adventure in a front-wheel drive coupe.

Even our friends who live in the desert are not safe from this mess: Phoenix has a freeze warning for tonight.

It hit our area on Monday afternoon. Some areas had freezing rain and ice first, but in my area it was just snow. It snowed for over 24 hours, and I heard that at times, it was coming down at about 3 inches an hour. So far, my street hasn't been plowed, yet. This reminds me of snows we got when I was a kid. Except I didn't have to drive in those snows. I've got to work, tonight. I hope I get there.

The city asked people to stay home and businesses to close so plows didn't have to deal with cars on the roads. For the most part, that happened. Many places were still closed today, but they are starting to open back up, as streets get passable.

I think they say we ended up with about 14 inches. Some better, some worse. Now, we are dealing with the drifting, because of the blustering wind. Tonight, the low temp is suppose to be -3F, and that's before any windchill. It's suppose to be -1 at 7 AM. But, after that, I think we get back to normal temps of upper 20s during the day and low teens during the night. I wonder what everybody is going to do with the snow, though. It doesn't look like it will be melting for a while.

This thing dropped deep snow on all sorts of areas of our country. Even snow plows were getting stuck. I-70 was closed between Kansas City and St. Louis. Not because of accidents, just too much snow. Even Oklahoma got dumped on. I don't know about Dallas, but I heard they were going ahead with the Super Bowl, so maybe they got dumped on, too. They said the two teams playing have played in snow before. Huh? Dude, the game is in a dome!

Ye gods.

Oncor (electric) had rolling blackouts all day because two power plants had water pipes burst and the resulting shutdowns to deal with the damage caused the resulting rolling blackouts.

Now Atmos (natural gas) has decided to utilize rolling blackouts for commercial clients for anything north of I-30; residential customers are being asked to keep thermostats at 65, avoid using hot water early in the morning, and keep drapes/doors closed to conserve natural gas/help avoid natural gas rolling blackouts in residential customers.

The high today was 20 - the lowest "high" in 20 years. More snow forecast for Friday, and they're saying we won't get above 32 until Saturday afternoon.

F*ck.

Oh, and yes - Jerry's World is still lit up like a dammed Christmas tree, and the fire marshal gave the green light to add additional "stairwell standing room only" tickets for Sundays game.

We're covered in ice (which means no one is shopping), it's cold as f*ck, there's a taxicab strike going on this week, rolling electrical and gas blackouts... But Jerry Jones gets to pack a few more sardines in the stadium.

I am ridiculously glad to be free of the major snowstorm that's plaguing half the country. We almost always get snow, but thank goodness we avoided it this time!

Hi Cutie ~ Isn't that the way of things.

Please keep safe. Ice is the worst. We had around 20 inches of snow where I am. Things are pretty good now, just very cold.

Waving to Yankee! How are you doing? :D

Hey, there, Kayte. Doing just fine, thanks, though I think my snowblower would like a day off. Nice av, btw. :D

Hi {{{{{{Yankee}}}} :kiss::heart:

I'm sure it would and you would! :)

Thank you. I owned and flew that at one time. :D Competion aerobatics was lots of fun.

Now that the snow has ended, we need a little less cold....

Keep safe and warm hon.

I thought that was the one. :D

Imagining sexual Immelmans at the moment. ;)

Don't get me started on barrel rolls, young lady.

ROTFLMAO :D

I always found barrel rolls more difficult to do than a slow roll. But then of course there is the snap roll. ;)

Have a great evening hon.

Snap Roll in slo-mo

I never did them this close to the ground! That is downright crazy! ;)

We got 6" of snow overnight. And the news keeps saying how it's "good snow" because it isn't the wet & heavy kind, but they keep skimming over the fact that all that "good snow" fell on top of 1" of 3 day old ice... which would be the cause of an I'm sure fantastically amusing to see slip & fall I did while clearing snow off the car. Face full of snow and everything.

4 straight days of every school district in the area being closed.
2nd day this week of the shop being closed.
< $2k in sales for the week (and I'm off all weekend).
Wind chills have been in the single digits since Monday.
The city has had to borrow snow melting chemical stuff and snow plows from out west.

GAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I've lived south of the Red River for 30 years for a reason DAMMIT!

We're having blizzard number 47 today. Meh. *shrugs*

(I feel for you, CM, despite my jest).

Yes, but we're not accustomed to the cold brain matter, like you are. We like to thaw out between blizzards. :p

this was also said in jest. I typed it slow so you could read it.

@CM, I have a very un-domly bruise on my ass from doing a double gainer while running the snowblower over a patch of ice the other day.

Maybe you should wander out to Jerry's World and put your business card under the windshield wipers of every Mercedes and Lexus in the parking lot. I suspect there will be quite a few there on Sunday. ;)

It took me 3 hours to drive 45 miles south to pick up the kids for weekend visitation. The first 90 minutes of that was getting from my house to the highway (10 miles) - the scariest 'effing 10 mile drive I've ever had the displeasure of driving. The second 20 miles of the journey was a close second. LOL

But I did get to learn that it was indeed smart of me to buy a car with ABS and push-button 4WD thingies.

Fortunately, it's hard to buy a car without ABS these days. It came to my rescue just yesterday when some idjit made a tight corner through an intersection just in front of me. I had to ditch to the snowbank to keep from becoming an ad for Collision Revision. Now, four-wheel drive is cooler than cool to get you going on slick surfaces. Doesn't do a damned thing to make that two tons of metal and machinery easier to stop, though, and there seem to be an awful lot of 4WD owners out there who haven't learned that lesson.

I remember driving after a Dallas ice storm a number of years ago when I was there on a project. Pretty flipping scary, for sure.

I don't even notice any more, honestly.

We missed most of this last go-round, got maybe 2 inches of it which probably melted off today. Still about 2-2.5 feet wherever you go and 6 foot piles on the corner.

The other day, as we were starting to get out and about, I was recalling how the banks in my home town used to give out little day-glo styrofoam balls to customers for their cars' radio antennas. The idea was that the little balls would make it easier to see oncoming cars from behind a high snow bank.

We're already getting some melting and evaporation. The drifts on my patio are down several inches and are no longer even with the bottoms of our kitchen windows.

Good morning everyone

I was talking to a friend in downstate IL. They are getting more snow! It is just cloudy for me right now. Crossing fingers.

Take care, this is just getting so old.

The boys and I just spent an hour-ish building a snow fort out back - my first ever! Me being me, I used the dustpan to scoop snow into Tupperware tubs [brick molds] instead of just piling up snow. One boy was the Master Mason, one was the Transport Engineer, I was the Brick Builder.

It took them all of 6 minutes to knock it down during the subsequent snowball fight.

:D
