US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth threatened in a meeting with senior Mexican security officials that if they failed to curb drug cartels and smuggling activities on the border, the US would take unilateral military action. Mexican officials were "shocked and furious" and understood from him that the US was preparing for a military attack on Mexican territory. (WSJ)

Considering that the USA was defeated in Civil insurrection wars in both Vietnam and Afghanistan by primitive technology and people; it would not be a conventional military battle in Mexico either. It is almost impossible to defeat a target which is enmeshed with the civilian population. There would be enormous carnage but it's not a conventional battle which could be won.
