Michael Jackson Acquitted on All Counts... dicuss

I believe the NHL player is white.

As to Jackson, I don't think he has much chance of reviveing his career. In the first place, pop music is notoriously fickle. In the second, he's too old. In the third, guilty or not, he has certainly turned off a significant portion of the populace. Most significantly, he is so wierd he is more likely to provoke laughs at his antics rather than enjoyment of his music among the teenagers who seem to have the most influence on what's hot and what's not.

I dunno. Jackson, being 'odd' seems to attract many more 'odd' fans than most. I think he has so many millions of fans that it won't be possible for him to lose his career if he still chooses to sing. Think about it. WHAT other celebrity has ever had SO MANY weirdo fans showing up to the courthouse day after day? Didn't see any at OJ's trial, nor Robert Blakes, nor Phil Spectors, nor any of those NFL guys, nor even, yes even, Martha Stewarts trial. Did you? :|

Nope.

But none of those celebrities can moonwalk.

Or own a chimp named Bubbles.

Good point. I have to say, I was really surprised by this. I knew he used to have fans, back in the 80's, when he was popular. But, naive as I am about these things, I didn't think his fanbase was all that, I don't know, there. Guess I was wrong. *shrugs* Hmm.

Actually, this is pretty much right, if you think about it. Those guys that were mentioned:

Blake is an older actor, who isn't so much famous for star-power as he is for consistency, really. O.J. is a retired football player who've I've never even seen play, save for on ESPN Classic, and that was only a few times. Martha Stewart isn't the kind of celebrity that gets people excited, but that's a good thing.

Point is, those people, and for the most part the NFL players, appeal to adults more than anything else, and mostly older adults. We've got jobs, and responsibilities. I saw a fair number, if not a majority, of younger people there. School's out, ort close to it, and some young people are happily unemployed and living in thier mom's basement.

And back in the day, there were "Run Juice Run" signs everywhere...

This is true. I still have scars from the spurs.

And while we're talking molestation, I didn't give consent (and couldn't have through the bit if I'd tried)...

Hi Colly, -- note on celebrity murderers

You asked,Do you think J, that Jackson's success in fighting charges and allegations will discourage people from coming forward? He can hire good lawyers and they are adept at putting the alleged victim on trial.

Let's not forget that it's Santa Barbara or the county of it that bore the cost. So criminal accusations are not necessarily costly. I do understand your point, though. Someone will think twice about accusing Kobe Bryant. Lots of private dicks were involved looking for dirt on the mom.

In the same vein, if he is guilty do you think he will be more discreet or will he be emboldened by this success?

Those with weird urges are going to keep up satisfying them. Maybe he should try some 'third world' country, make a palace, etc.

Obviously if he is innocent of any wrong doing, then all such speculation is moot.

In my post I raised the possibility of 'innocent pedophilia.' We know, of course, statistiallyt that the majority or vast majority who are obsessed with kids and 'work with them'--- like the first world folks running orphanages in third world countries--are going to bring some form of sex into the picture, though perhaps not intercourse.

You can't, however, convict based even on an 80% statistic.

I did think of a rather famous murder case where someone's--of a rich celebrity family--is doing hard time: Michael Skakel (killer of Martha Moxley), though it took a couple decades to get him there. He's a relative by marriage, of Bobby Kennedy.

Damn, lol, what were you watching? I saw middle aged people on the news. He has been a celebrity since the early 70's, afterall, though the basement concept may well be true for them as well. :D

Those were immediate come to mind examples to illustrate the point that he has a lot of fans who won't let go, many as odd as he is, and so his career, while it may not be great (I doubt it has been for years since the first allegations), it will still exist as it also has for years since the first allegations and pay-off. ;) I don't think any other celebrity, young or old has so "many" 'odd' fans

PS. SweetSubSarahh ... I think Phil Spector comes close somehow, (he knows Liza, too) and Baretta had a talking, drinking cockatou (sp) though certainly not as famous as the chimp. :D

Innocent pedophilia: case in point a news item in Canada recently where a teen was having sex with a teen, and exchanges were being made on a website. All is fine and dandy in this exchange, until said boy posts such images to an adult site and finds himself being charged with peddling in underage porn. Anyhow, different issue, but was a good time to bring it up.

I do believe that MJs weirdness factor, pity etc. has a lot to do with how people view this scenario, but in all seriousness if you, Pure, invited a child over to a sleepover in your bed? Well ... I think the world would be pretty harsh on you. Much harsher than they have been or are with MJ who admittedly see's nothing wrong with it.

Well, if he's too old for popdom maybe he could check out being a bluesman. :)

I cheated and asked my husband. :cathappy:

MJ had a snake? I don't even think I remember the cartoon!

(Hubby is gone right now, dang it.)

Hi Cloudy

While there are occasional adults who hang with the young, are obsessed with them, and keep it in their pants (Dodgson?), this example is something quite other, as you note. Teen-teen, or even child-child sex don't count as pedophilia, or lots of us here are in trouble!
I'm thinking of adult/child (pre puberty) or adult/young-teen (13) --hebephilia--as the examples we're talking.

Of course 'child porn' has trickier definitions, so I can imagine that a 14 year old in possession of nude pictures of his/her 13 year old 'friend' could be said, according to the law, to possess 'child porn' --though outside of texas and florida, there'd be no adult court trial, hanging, etc.

Pure--

Evidently it is the camera which makes the crime. Underage people can have at it so long as there are no records made.

Being a bluesman takes talent. Talent MJ never had. If he had the ability to pick up a stratocaster andmake it sing, or a horn and give the notes soul, he wouldn't be reduced to hocking his own share of the record collectionhe owns the rights to, to promote his latest album. The bluesmen never had his level of fame, but thay almost all had a level of talent far suprpassing his. And while fame is fleeting, the talent has a lot more staying power.

who knows

maybe he did or maybe he didn't no one knows but every knows how is women are with men they always want there money those old ladies just like to lie so they could get his money

I have to laugh at all the responses here. This is nothing but a verdict from those of the fruit and nuts of CA. He was guilty of past molesting but not of this case. You can believe the accuser but not his crazy Mom.
Oj and Mj are alike. They got away with it because of incomptetent California juries. Saddam is now applieing to a CA court. I hear Osama will when he's caught.
At least in California you can disagree with the other 49 states and we all know you're nutty. It's too bad you let criminals and pedo's out to the public.
But hey!!!!!!!!!! He's in your community. And the next party is in his bed with your children.

I really hate to bust your bubble, but California is just like every other state. Hollywood is only about 9 square miles - I'm disappointed that you, like so many others, think that Hollywood is California. Why don't you visit out there, or talk to some people who live there, before making those types of blanket statements? And, just to head you off at the pass, Santa Barbara (where the trial was held) is my hometown - and there's schools and grocery stores and everything there!

I suppose that since we're from the south we both live in trailers with rusting out cars in the front yard, and twenty dogs under a ramshackle add-on porch.

Geez....can we say "stereotypes" boys and girls?

Today's news coverage was wonderful, by the way.

Not a whisper about Michael Jackson.

:)

That makes a big change. They really acted like it was the most important thing in the fuckin country. Distraction is important, i guess. I mean, I need it myself once in a while. But this was insulting.
