Michigan Roll Call

Where I75 and 696 meet there was over ten feet of water! Really? Rained 5inches and it causes that much flooding?! This summer blows. It needs to be 95degrees already...

Most people don't realize what 1 inch of rain means. Over a 12' x 20' area (like a normal-sized deck, say) 1" = ~150 gallons of water. Multiply that by the size of a freeway, and all the surrounding land which is paved so the water can't soak in, and you have massive amounts of water arriving in a short time, and it all has to go somewhere, which is the lowest point...

I'm not surprised. Really, I'm not.

I94 and 696 was shut down also for flooding. (more my side of town).

Then add in a storm drain that haven't been cleaned in years and there you go a flooded freeway.

West Side

I'm really really glad that the West side didn't get hammered like you all. We have seen our share of flooding out our way and it frickin' sucks.

Hope none of you guy's homes were damaged.

Warren got hit hard. Flooding everywhere...
I live in Ypsi, so we didn't have any problems. I did have a few qualms about taking the freeway to work, but they proved groundless.

With that much water in that short a time, the storm drains would have been useless, anyway...the fact that they're plugged is why it's still flooded, however.

What a mess, hopefully everyone here wasn't hit too terribly bad. And hopefully it clears up quicker than they are expecting.
