Monsters have gotten such a bum rap over the centuries. Everyone sees them as frightening, disturbing creatures... But all in all, they're simply misunderstood. It's hard to break yourself of the expected stereotype that people make of you, and even harder to stop them when you have your instincts going against you!

The Monster Academy is a creation of those misunderstood creatures so that their children can have a better attempt at fitting in. Seen as a College for Creatures, these unique students are taught how to blend in a bit better with human society, as well as how to control their monsterish tendencies.

The faculty is also made up of various members of the monster community, whether it be creatures as well or those who know them (For example, Dr Van Helsing, Dr Frankenstein, etc.) Of course, this also means a few of our dear teachers need to control their OWN natural instincts around their students...

The kids would have a great number of their parent's characteristics; for example, E's wolfman son has Dad's transformation and wolf tendencies... My Dracula daughter has a love of blood (but vegetarian most of the time...), interest in the night, and a total flirt.

Name: Lenore "Lenni" Vladamir
Age: She goes with 21.
Monster Parent: Dracula.

Personality: Very outgoing-at night. During the day, she can be a bit sour and moody, sarcastic and easily frustrated. She'll try to flirt with everyone... except those who have a little too much garlic on their breath.

Bio: Lenni hates the fact her father dotes on her so much. He's very overprotective of her, saying he knows what's in a young monsterman's mind. She's not quite sure on who her mom is (Dad admits to being an "old school player", horrible words to hear coming out of that accented mouth) with the at least 3 women she has always known as Mom. Because of dad's polygamous ways, Lenore herself sees no problems with being open to anyone who catches her eye....

Her family life was a very questionable one. Since she was unsure as to which woman was actually her mother, she tended to search out other maternal influences, ending up relying more on television and other media as a proper idea on what she should be like. The examples made by everyone around her was a bit... lacking. Realizing her want for a June Cleaver mom was simply not going to happen, she decided to try the other end of the spectrum- Be like Dad. That didn't go over well either. She began hanging around the kids of some of dad's old friends, picking up some rather bad habits from them that dad certainly didn't appreciate... especially her developing interest in makeup and romance. How did she even expect to put the stuff on?! Her first few attempts came off rather horrific (a girl with no reflection has a hard time seeing what she's doing), but has made better progress in her use. Dracula, in typical fatherly fashion, began accusing her of over abusing the "vamp" of vampire.

"Learned it from you, dad."
That shut him up.

Special Quirks/Interests: Hates bright and shiny days, loves moonlit nights. Tends to carry a Parasol with her in the daytime. Absolutely HATES the school food...

Any Fave/Hated Subjects? Loves Human Biology. Hates Restraint 101.

Name: Edgar Talbot
Appearance: Human Form (Eyes are normally dark brown)
Werewolf
Age: 20
Monster Parent: Wolfman

Personality: A bit on the laid back side, albeit with a snarky edge to his humor and what could be considered anger issues (especially if pushed days a full moon's coming out). Doesn't really try to seek out friends or companions, but also doesn't purposely keep others at arms length. When the moons rays are in effect, however, it tends to throw a hitch in these traits as his interests in others (which can range from basic hunger to feelings of being challenged) can become harder to ignore. But so long as he refrains from attempts at mauling his classmates or professors, things seem to work their way out.

Bio: Knowing of the curse placed upon his bloodline since childhood, it wasn't until reaching puberty that the change began showing itself within the young Talbot (as if acne wasn't bad enough at hurting ones social life). As such, he'd actually been one of the 'normal' kids for a time, but has since come to grudgingly accept his lot in life. And the transformations did allow for some (mostly) innocent late night fun, whenever he could slip away of his father long enough to indulge these new urges and instincts.

His father was understandably strict about his son learning to control that inner beast, and as such that protectiveness (both for his son's sake and those around him) resulted in Edgar growing less social while growing older. Over time, this caution was somewhat instilled within the young man, albeit without being near the extreme that his old man's overprotective and watchful eye tended to take it. As a result of how the curse affected Edgar in dealing with people in regular school, the academy is perhaps the first real return to a normal school life since it became clear that the bite of the wolf wouldn't skip his generation. 'Normal, of course, being a relative term given the student body and their lecturers.

Special Quirks/Interests: Edgar's conflicted about moonlit nights, as they have an invigorating effect upon his unique body, but also mean he needs to try harder at keeping himself under control. He's also fairly fidgety during long classes, not really being one who enjoys remaining crammed in one place for too long. Whether it's a result of his other sides nature or the simple wandering mind of a young man is anyone's guess.

Any Fave/Hated Subjects? Dislikes any subject which usually involves a lot of sitting around. Somewhat enjoys Restraint 101 due to earlier mentioned reasons, but even that can be boring a lot of the time.

Name: Gillian
Age: According to her father, 24
Appearance: http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=creature from the black lagoon girl&order=9&offset=24#/d2xlgyx
Pale green scales all over her body, ear 'fins' instead of true ears, gill slits along her neck, and bright gold eyes.
Monster Parent: Creature from the Black Lagoon

Personality: Shy and a little quiet, Gillian is more comfortable underwater than she is in most of her classes - not that she does badly in them. She is passionate about a few subjects, namely: protecting the environment, sushi, and baseball.

Biography: In 1954, Kay Lawrence accompanied her fiance on an exploratory trip to the Amazon. There, she attracted the attention of the gill-man, the Creature form the Black Lagoon, and was pulled down into the Creature's watery home. Kay escaped and married Dr. David Reed soon afterward. Nine months later, Gillian showed up, much to Kay and David's surprise. They had expected the baby Kay was carrying to be the product of their union, and when the little girl came out pale green and scaled all over . . . it was a rocky moment in their marriage, to be sure. David, however, took the initiative to put the infant out into the night, without consulting his wife until after the fact.

Fortunately for Gillian, her father had followed the happy couple, and when he saw David put the bundle under a park bench, he interceded, as surprised as they had been when he saw the clear heritage of the 'tadpole' he held in his webbed hands. But he decided that, since they clearly didn't want the child, he would take her back to his lagoon and raise her.

Life underwater wasn't so bad - little Gillian swam before she could walk, and had as many playmates as there were frogs in the lagoon. But once she started talking, she began to ask her father questions about why there weren't any other people like them, and why she looked so different from him. At a young age, Gillian learned the facts of life - that sometimes, a gill-man makes it with a human woman, and the product was Gillian. That she had probably had other half-siblings that hadn't been so lucky, the Creature just hadn't realized that his trysts could result in children. That the family she'd been born to hadn't wanted her, because she was different. Because they were monsters, she and her father. He remembered that word, one of the few he recalled from his encounter with Kay and David, and he also remembered the fear and loathing it had been said with.

Gillian wanted to learn more about her human heritage, wanted to go ashore and see if maybe things were different now. He told her it was a bad idea, but didn't stop her. Tadpoles had to learn some things on their own.

Her first encounter with humans wasn't a pleasant one. Another scientific expedition was nearby, and Gillian went to their camp, studying their forms while their slept. She was aware of her own differences, and thought that they looked rather monstrous themselves. One of them awoke, however, and shouted something incomprehensible at her before firing his gun at her. She dodged out of the way, slashing at the man with her clawed fingers, and dove into the river nearby, swimming as fast as she could to get away from them.

But her exposure to them made her curious. Why were they here, and why were they so violent? She herself was aware that their appearances weren't the same as hers, but was willing to give them the chance to prove they weren't the monsters they resembled. Why weren't they?

When she heard, through strange channels, about the Monster Academy, and begged her father to let her go. He was reluctant, but was willing to let her go if she wanted to - though she'd have to get there on her own.

Special Quirks/Interests: A tendency to dive into any water that presents itself, as well as a natural affinity for most aquatic creatures. Gillian likes sushi, baseball - although she can't play to save her life - and warm weather.

Any Fave/Hated Subjects?: She LOVES P.E., as long as it's swimming day. She's all right with biology, and kind of likes learning about other living things. Absolutely hates English - languages are tough, and writing them with webbed, clawed fingers? Much tougher.

Name: Pandora Medusa
Age: 19
Monster Parent: Medusa

Personality: For the most part, Pandora's a quiet, shy and unassuming girl. Although she's unlikely to defend herself most of the time, she's incredibly loyal and down-right deadly when she feels as though her friends are being threatened. Affectionate, kind, and clever she excels at most of the things she tries although she's very modest and unlikely to compete. Sometimes this makes her a bit of a doormat but she doesn't seem to mind. The snakes in her hair reflect her emotions, sometimes when she'd rather they didn't.

Bio: Without a father to speak of, Medusa gave her daughter her name as a human surname. In ancient Greek Pandora meant all-talented and so the name is not as much of a curse as human's believe it to be.

Living with Medusa hasn't ever been easy. She's bitter with a temper from Hades himself. Pandora's spent most of her life avoiding her mother's wrath or picking up the pieces after failed romances. Despite the difficulties Pandora is always there to wipe up her mother's tears, after all she's one of the few people capable of actually meeting her mother's eyes. The identity of her father is a total mystery and Pandora's too sweet to press her mother about it.

Much of her childhood was spent on the move whenever she or her mother turned someone to stone. Although Medusa had long ago purchased a charm to help her daughter blend in with human society and disguise her living hair, she couldn't bind either her daughter's powers or her own. Medusa's uncovered eyes petrify men and woman alike should she make uncovered eye contact. Pandora wears sunglasses when she's out in public but she can control her powers when she's calm so she rarely wears them in private. Furthermore, she has the ability to stun rather than petrify her victims.

When Medusa decided to send her daughter to Monster Academy Pandora fought to stay and take care of her mother but Medusa wouldn't have it. Underneath the stony exterior, she loves her daughter very much and knows that she deserves to be around other monsters who will appreciate her for who she is.

Special Quirks/Interests: She has a habit of writing haikus when she's too quiet to express things and has notebooks full of random musings. A talented singer and able to play any instrument presented to her she enjoys music and dance class. Although she's artsy, she never turns an invitation to play a friendly game or duel, though she's loathe to compete. She became a vegetarian after seeing a show on the food network where the host sampled several kinds of snakes.

Name: Felix ‘Patch’ Stein.
Appearance: (still looking)
Age: Physically hes roughly 20, though he was only created just over a year ago.
Monster Parent: Frankenstein’s monster.
Personality: Rather shy and naive about most things, but highly intelligent and very inquisitive when he can get out of his shell.
Bio: for the majority of his rather short life, Patch has had practically no interaction with other people. The only people he did meet were doctors and scientists, who viewed him mainly as a science experiment, even his father was distant with him. However one day, he was left alone in the laboratory and ended up making himself a friendlier companion, he made a cat.

Stitches was his name, a mostly furless cat made from spare parts, Patch tried to hide him at first, assuming that his distant father would be angry or disappointed, but when he did find out, it was quite the opposite, his father was proud, it was the first time Patch had ever seen the hulking man smile. After that, life got allot better for him, his father was even kind enough to bestow upon him a name, Felix.

It wasn’t long after the incident with Stitches, Patch was sent to the monster academy to be with other people his own age, other people with some kind of human feelings that he could learn from.

Special Quirks/Interests: Like his father, he is afraid of fire, deathly afraid of fire, but as long as its not out of control and he doesn’t have to get too close, he can stay calm.
Any Fave/Hated Subjects?: He likes all of them, as long as they keep teaching them new things.

Name: Kiara Jekyll
Appearance: Kiara/Akira Jekyll (2nd from the left is Kiara, 3rd from the left is Akira)
Age: 18
Monster Parent: Dr. Jekyll
Personality:
Kiara is a quiet one, reserved, but stands strongly upon the belief that she is ‘normal’. She understands the existence of monsters, the results of her father’s studies, but that doesn’t mean she’s one of them, nor does it mean that she’s inherited the results of her father’s research. She was quite annoyed that her father had sent her to Monster Academy to study, and finally accepted the circumstance as a means to take care of a “What-if” situation.

Perhaps what she doesn’t know, (or chooses not to believe) is the existence of a second personality - Akira. Akira is the unreserved aspect that Kiara hides away. She represents the emotional side of anger, love, jealousy.... the stronger emotions that Kiara bottles away. Akira brings the inner desires and wants, completely into control instead of being repressed. She doesn’t think about consequences, and neither does she care about them.

Bio: During the height of his illustrious career, Dr. Jekyll had married Ayame Moriyoka. When the scandal of his research disrupted his life, Ayame filed for a divorce. She had intended to take their only daughter as well until he explained that the serum had altered his own DNA and tests had indicated that the child was also carrying those genes. She gave up all claims to Kiara after that and was not seen since.

Best and most hated subject: Chemistry. In some ways she blames her father’s love for the subject the cause for his plight, her broken family, and now the requirement to go to Monster Academy. However it doesn’t stop her from being innately good at the subject, especially if she has to actually try in order to fail a Chemistry test.

*Just a little bump. I plan to start an IC thread for this in the next few days. If anyone has any input on ideas for that, feel free to PM me.*

Name: Chloe C. Anenome
Appearance: 5’1” 105 lbs.

Her skin is a dark brown and deeply tanned, though it is covered in a light down, reminiscent of the feathers most birds have as an undercoat. Similar in shade to her skin, a casual glance would simply notice a diffusing and softening of the light that falls upon it. Her head is covered in small feathers, toned from brown to gold. They form a widow’s peak over her forehead and curve around her temples in a graceful arch.

Chloe’s facial features reflect her avian heritage, nose and jaw being somewhat angular, held in symmetry by ears that are spaced slightly back and angled. Set in the midst of of this is the one gift her father gave her, besides a love of the sea: a pair of sea-green stormy eyes, gently slanted.

Age: 20
Monster Parents: Peisinoe (Siren, from Greek mythology - name means, “Seductress”) and Poseidon, God of the Sea.

Personality: A proverbial fish out of water, Chloe spent her life isolated on an island and with a parent whose view of the world was stuck in ancient Greece. Though her mother explained the changes in her body and cautioned Chloe about the curse (people dying, not menstruation), it was couched in an old-world mentality that men were heroes and women naught but imperfect images.

What emerged was a naive girl full of conflicting impulses. Destined to be intensely sexual, she nonetheless was determined to live up to her mother’s conservative standards. Likewise, although highly intelligent, Chloe was socially inept, almost illiterate, and it fell upon her innate charisma to compensate.

Shy, then, is a word that on the surface would seem to apply, yet in truth was woefully inaccurate. Chloe was anything but shy, she just needed to learn how to fit in an alien world.

Bio: The child of Poseidon and Peisinoe, Chloe grew up on the shores of the Mediterranean with her mother and her two aunts. Like the women in her family, song came naturally to her and before she could even form words, she was mimicking the sounds around her, spinning and weaving them into a natural melody reflective of her mood. Chloe felt at home by the ocean, it spoke to her, told her of loves that had come and loves that had gone. It whispered, sometimes, about what was to be.

Puberty brought a marked change in her. Her songs, previously about childish topics: games, fun, laughter, and adventure, blossomed as she did; their content becoming alluring and seductive. Peisinoe had watched her daughter’s development with pride. They were a magical race, maligned and misunderstood, and their songs had great power. Unlike mortals, the sirens were not mere passive recipients of fate, they had the power to call love to them, to make love where none existed. Yet, as in all things, this power came with a price. Those who answered, seldom lived to ever touch their intended. It was likewise said that if the full power of a siren’s call were ever resisted, it is she who would perish, rather than he. Peisinoe wanted a different fate for her daughter.

Things had changed over the millenia, the ships that came in range no longer carried heroes of note, they no longer provided passage to merchants and nobles. Instead of wooden schooners, most ships passing by were large metal beasts full of automation and strange technologies. Peisinoe felt change in the air. She considered seeking the girl’s father, long since vanished in the waves, but not even a seashell would wash ashore in response. Deadbeat. Fucking gods.

Peisinoe called upon fate, determined that Chloe would be more than a fisherman’s concubine. Her dreams told her of a new land and a new people, new threads to weave. They told her that across an ocean that made her sea appear little more than a pond, was one who could survive her curse, but she would have to prepare for him, as much as the fates prepared him for her. At age fourteen, Peisinoe began Chloe’s education, schooling her in English, math, reading and the sciences. By twenty, Chloe had reached the limit of what her mother could teach, home-school texts exhausted, and as much as it saddened Peisinoe, she knew it was time for Chloe to begin her real education.

And thus it was that documents were signed, passage booked, and a certain young siren left home for the first time.

Special Quirks/Interests:

Singing and speaking voices are both melodic and reflective of her personality or mood. Most often they will inspire a sense of well-being and kindness. If she was interested in a person the feeling might be altogether different and if angry, rather unpleasant. Singing is more potent than speaking but neither is enough - yet - to impose particular responses upon someone unwilling. That sort of intensity takes either very strong emotion, or decades of experience.

She loves the sea, and she idolizes her absent father.

Any Fave/Hated Subjects? Favs: music, dance, fashion and of all things, biology. Hates:Math, Home-ec and French

Intended careers: marine biologist, Broadway musical director, model.

Colin O'Shea

Name: Colin O'Shea
Appearance: Pale skin, black eyes, silvery white hair, drawn face with strong cheekbones and well defined muscled body.
Age: 21
Monster Parent: Banshee
Personality: Withdrawn and watchful
Bio: His father was a Scottish soldier who have moved and settled in Ireland after retiring from the armed forces, for years the townsfolk treated Kevin O'Shea like the outsider he was, but as he proved to be just as hard working and honest as them, they started accepting him. One dark, stormy night a ravishingly beautiful woman showed up on Kevin's doorstep, without thinking twice he let her in. So caught up in her beauty was Kevin that he not once noticed that she neither ate nor drank the entire evening. That night was a night of passion that Kevin would never forget until his dieing day. Months later a mysterious stranger was seen leaving a basket at Kevin's doorstep, inside was a boy, he was pale and the few hair he had was a silvery white.

Kevin was unsure about what to think until her remembered the evening with the woman he never saw again. Colin grew up much more of an outsider than his father was, but this did not stop him from being just as hard a worker as his father and his father took it upon himself to train Colin in the ways of a soldier. Colin grew up to be a smart, yet disciplined young man, who kept to himself all the time.

Never sleeps, but does go into a trance for about two hours a day, once Colin can get to talk, it turns out that he can be quite the conversationalist. Has a strange yearning for etherical energy, but his strong will keeps it in check.

Special Quirks/Interests: Colin seems very interested in Mythology, Folk lore, Mathematics, History and Science

Any Fave/Hated Subjects? A hard worker Colin loves all and any subject he can get time for

Name: Samuel "Sam" Hancock
Appearance: Sam is tall and lean, moving with an easy, flowing grace. His skin is pale and cool to the touch, his body always a few degrees colder than it should be. His hair is a jet black that drinks in light. During the day, his eyes are the same kind of deepening black his hair is, but at night they change to glow an unearthly green. He dresses mostly in black, not out of choice, but because any clothes he wears turn black over time, no matter what color they started out as.
Age: 18
Monster Parent: Sir Simon du Lac, Ghost of Caernarvon
Personality: Sam has been accused of manic depression before, though never clinically. He see saws between being curious, friendly, and energetic and being pensive, quiet, and even antisocial. He tends towards a dark, wry humor in any mode and rarely hesitates to employ it on all and sundry. Often he tries too hard, as if desperate to make a lasting impression, whether good or bad, on those he meets. He seems drawn to people who are bright or full of life, almost against his will.
Bio: Sam should not be alive. His existence is an impossibility and an abomination. Sir Simon du Lac was a British noble who dedicated himself to the occult in the 1600's, a member of one of the infamous "Hellfire Clubs." Before his death for witchcraft and human sacrifice, he swore that so long as his home stood, his spirit would stay on as a ghost and bedevil the living. He died and his house was almost immediately torn down. But rather than burn the timbers and smash the bricks, the practical English decided that they should sell them to colonial interests instead. After all, why not make a few pennies? And if the dead man was right, it would be the colonials who would have to worry about it.

The curse was true. And when the bricks from Sir Simon's home were used to construct a lavish building in Boston, his ghost appeared there. Ghosthood, however, was not all it was cracked up to be. Sir Simon eventually began to weary of it, as he could do little more that spend his eternity floating about unseen and watching the living, occasionally able to scare or almost make contact with them. That all changed when a young girl named Virginia came to live in the house with her family. In her teenage years, Virginia was a medium of rare power, not only able to see and hear the dead, but to touch them. She had always felt cut off from others by her powers, and Sir Simon was cut off from the whole world. The two bonded and eventually a romance blossomed. True love freed Sir Simon from undeath and he passed on...but not before he and Virginia had a few nights of unnatural passion in which he'd left her with something to remember him by.

Sam has had a rough upbringing. Most people feel strange around him and that usually makes them lash out or ignore him. He's looking forward to the Monster Academy as somewhere, maybe, that he might be able to actually form real connections with people.

Special Quirks/Interests: Sam is unnatural in the truest sense of the word. Any clothes Sam wears become black over time, darkening more the longer he wears them. Vegetation tends to wilt in his presence and machines tend to break down or work strangely. Animals of all kinds hate him and will flee or attack if in his presence. Sam is interested in architecture and also likes music a great deal. He is also a talented chef and enjoys cooking immensely, though he's often embarrassed to admit it.
Any Fave/Hated Subjects: Sam is almost obsessed with Theology and Occult classes, desperate to try and discover if a being like him even has a soul and whether he's doomed to some horrible afterlife by dint of his very being. He doesn't really care for gym or sports classes but likes most of the others.

No offense DK; I had started the IC thread with the current number of folks signed up in mind- it kept things even on guy/girl ratio.

If someone drops, you're welcome to hop on... I just don't want anyone feeling the odd one out when, y'know, the inevitable happens.

Swears loudly at the combination of the thread going up, and the bio for my character have been eaten up by the Evil God of Computer Restarts Before the File Was Saved

Right, I know what my first priority is now smacks the computer Bio coming soon, Lily... I promise.

Name: John Smith
Age: 20
Monster Parent: Uncles Frankenstein & Moreau

Personality: Rather reserved, but will talk to people socially if they take the effort to talk to him. When he does socialize, he is like any other normal individual. He has his likes, dislikes and generally tries to got on with others.

Bio: Even "mad" scientists need some recognition of their work, and every few years, they gather in a convention where they speak of their recent projects and achievements, and receive the recognition they all deep down desire. It doesn't matter that most wouldn't know what was being talked about. But they all share the same deep driving passion and willingness to do what it takes to see their vision become a reality. That is what they admire and recognize, they give and receive.

Dr Frankenstein & Dr Moreau, instead of their normal bickering, actually came together on a project, born of a large amount of alcohol and a deep love of the medical sciences. They produced a monster from the ground up. Not one sown together, or altered. They went right back to the first cell.

The result was John Smith. Created from the merged DNA of the greatest "monsters" of all time - Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. The young man was tutored by the finest henchmen available, and watched just about any horror movie that was ever made. All the while, they watched and waited for his monster side to manifest itself.

But John was a normal human. No amount of effort could persuade his uncles that he was ordinary. All of those arguments simply finished with the same dejected sounding words, "Yes, Sir."

Those same words ended the discussions concerning where he would go for further education, and what subjects he would study.

Special Quirks/Interests: He has a large store of Hammer Horror Trivia due to countless hours of watching the movies.

Any Fave/Hated Subjects? Hates the Humanities subjects ( How to blend in; Social norms of Humans; Touching wet paint and other useful quirks )

Loves music, particular Pipe Organs - Yes, he can play Toccata and Fugue in D minor

Just out of curiosity, what's the maulitorium like? I was thinking of moving Sam there since I'm not sure what else to do at this point. But I didn't want to give a description of it that was completely at odds with how it was envisioned by our esteemed leaders.

Lily and I had talked it out a little earlier, and we're pretty open to suggestions or input if anyone has anything specific they'd like to consider adding.

Basic idea (and correct me if I get anything wrong here, Lily) is that the students would be seated at tables (think Hogwarts), with the main lighting provided by chandeliers hanging from the ceiling while also having several self lighting candles held by hands protruding from the walls.

Possibly a few banners hanging from the walls for the school itself or a generic 'welcome returning and new students' greeting hanging from above. Also, the colors for the curtains framing the stage and perhaps decorating anywhere else within this area (such as tablecloths) would be an almost blood red coloring.

Basically an auditorium, only with subtle and not so subtle touches harking back to monster/horror imagery like the candle 'holders' and choice of lighting.

A shame, too, since it resulted in you missing out on the PM only character orgy.
