I’m always a fan of slippery slopes. What if there’s some setup that introduces some “innocent” spanking to a relationship? Maybe the wife is reading a new “self help” book of some sort that includes the opinion that you need to have consequences for missteps and an accountability partner - much like you learned things as a child.
