No, seriously... I just bought a house and will be looking at lawnmowers today. I'm considering getting a rotary type instead of a gas or electric.

Suggestions?

Look into teens from the neighborhood wanting to make a few bucks. The lawn is a pain in the ass

Cordless electric, depending on the size of lawn to cut. Almost dead quiet, mulches to feed the grass and is the easiest to use. Costs a bit more than the others, but well worth it in the end. Hope that helps. :rose:

I'd rather do it myself. One thing I've learned is that to a woman who's got her shit together, a man is mostly a superfluity. I frequently wish my father hadn't raised me so well. Then, I could still say I "needed" someone. However, by definition, having a man should be more of a luxury than a necessity.. And I haven't found the brand of man that fits that bill.
Pay me to mow both your lawns lol.

I've got boys. If they want to make money, they can mow other people's lawns. I feed and clothe them and keep a roof over their heads. They can do mine for free. But.. I like the exercise.... So it just depends..

Fine (storms out the room throwing a tantrum).

I looked at the rotary/reel mowers, RA and they're great when new and sharp, but require constant maintenance, like cleaning, oiling, sharpening to work well. Not to mention, you're providing all the power to make it work, so the taller the grass, the worse it is to cut, so you have to cut often to maintain and easy cut.

Again, it all depends on the size of lawn to cut and any hills or dips to deal with. I've used them all and for the typical size yard, the cordless mulching mowers are the best for the bucks. Least maintenance and simply push a button/lever and you're cutting. Plug it in to charge and you're done. :)

it's not a huge yard, only about 6000 sq ft, and has several fruit trees I've got to maneuver around. I thought I'd just get an edger for that.. I don't know. Last house I actually owned had over 8 acres, so 6000 sq ft seems way more than manageable with a reel..

It'll seem like 8 acres after using a rotary mower, lol. I prefer the cordless like I said, just for the ease of use and maintenance and it mulches, which is best for lawns. Push a rotary around the store for a bit and get a feel for it and then triple the effort once you're on the grass. Great exercise if anything, lol ;)

Just keep the blade sharp, no matter what mower you get. That's the best advice I can give you, RA. Good luck in choosing. :rose:

Sexy hot landscapers is the way to go :)

If you want to combine a serious workout with your lawn mowing this would work. See if you can get one with tall wheels tho. That will help.

I agree. Make sure you get lithium ion battery packs. They will last longer, hold their charge longer & recharge faster. Plus, except for a little cleaning, there is practically no maintenance.

I've always enjoyed mowing lawns. The smell of freshly cut grass always lights me up. ;)

I recommend a self propelled gas mower and a two cycle gas string trimmer. If your yards fairly smooth then mowing will be incredibly easy. If its not then have a good lawn service guy clean it up for you before the next mowing season. Gas mowers are dirt simple to change the oil and air filters on and the blades aren't hard to sharpen or change. But if that's not your thing then just take it to a lawnmower repair shop once a year.

I have a rotary, gas and riding one. The rotary will surely give you a workout. How big is your lawn, does it rain there a lot, and how often do you need to mow? The longer it is the more work it is, if it's wet it's like pushing over wet noodles. Back and forth, back and forth. Ugh.

Are you going to do the blue/green pattern? :D

thank you all for the suggestions.

AG, it's only 6000 sq ft, and since when i was married, the schmuck made it part of my duty to keep the yard at 8 acres, I'm thinking 6000 sq ft isn't bad? Idk. I might hate it. With 8 acres, I had both a riding lawn mower and a tractor. I know I don't need that now...(not that I was a very good tractor driver.. lmao)

Eta... I don't mind taking things apart and putting them back together. My first job out of college was at Homelite... On the assembly line...
My dad was mortified, but I can take apart and put back together most smaller tools like lawnmowers and hedge trimmers..:)

I can't physically see what 6000 sq ft is in my head. I have an acre of lawn and no fucking way could I do it with the rotary. It'd take me every single day to do a portion, nonstop. My deck is 900 sq ft so I'm trying to see that 6 fold. I've shoveled snow off 900 sq ft and ugh. My wet grass was just too much work. I do like my gas pusher then do the rotary around some tighter spots. I give you tons of encouragement though! You can do it!:D
