Mutual Salvation (Closed)

She looked over having heard their words.

What would this ceremony cosist of?

She smiled willing to forgive their mental words if it got them working together. Her attention still drawn to the heatheran its soft hue in moonlight.

The ceremony is between the wolf spirit and the man-pup, the wolf explained. It is performed on the first full moon before the pup's thirteenth year. As it is obviously not a full moon, you would need to be our moon.

The wolf sat up tall. Be warned, if you do this, then you will be forever bound to this man, for the compact is under the moon and bound BY the moon. And, if you are to become this man's moon, then you will have to stay by his side.

The wolf looked into Kalina's eyes. Forever.

He laid back down in the heather. You do not need to decide right now. We can wait for the next full moon, there is no rush. The man and I have reached an understanding, and can survive till then.

The two of you bound to me and me to the both of you...

She thought on this... a use for her pull to the moon and its ties to her... it this Connor has only seemed to want her gone when she was well enough to go. How would he feel about this? What if Grannook four.d their lands as well? So many questions flooded her mind but all she said...

And Connors thouts on this bond are?

The wolf just smiled a conspiratorial smile.

That, Moon Child, he said bowing to her. I will let him explain.

The wolf was shed like winter fur in spring. Gradually, the beast became man right before her eyes. Gone were the fangs and golden eyes. Gone were the paws and the four legs. In it's place sat a man, two legs only, and his whit hair, so much like the beast's fur.

He stood their panting, surprised to find himself there, surprised to find the night still here. Finally, he saw the woman. "I agree," he said, succinctly.

That would be when he noticed that his clothes were gone. As usual.

Ah, well, the wolf thought, mentally smirking at the man.

You agree to be bound to someone you barely know forever?

She turned for now as she realized he was naked.

I want to know why? When you could just as easily wait for the full moon and do this compact then...

Connor smiled as she turned around.

"This...compact," he said. "It's never rested easy with me. And...I don't know if I can stay true to it. The idea of being bound to something like this...beast inside, losing control...It's not something I'm comfortable with."

He shifted, trying to find some comfort on the soft heather. "But if there's someone there...someone to help me keep the beast at bay...Maybe then I'll have peace."

He shrugged. "This beast has scared me since I was a child. Now, it's...calmer. I haven't felt this at peace in half my life. You bring that peace."

He chuckled. "It also helps that you're beautiful. That your a child of the moon, and the stars, and the raging wind. What better way to tame the beast within then with someone just as...strange and wonderful as you."

Then I will help you.

She continued to look away having never been called beautiful by another nor having anyone looking to her affinity as a good thing. She bit her lip unsure of what to say or do beyond that she would help. She could understand in a way being scared of what you were because of how everyone of her people viewed her and her abilities.

Connor smiled. "I'm glad."

He looked around rather sheepishly. "Well, then i guess we'd better begin."

He stood to his full height, unabashed at his nakedness. "We'll need you to stand as well."

Have her remove her clothes, the wolf said.

Connor gave a start. What? Why?

The wolf chuckled. So easily embarrassed, young pup? The moon doesn't wear clothes, and nothing hides her glorious beauty. If this woman is to be our moon for all eternity, then she must be as the moon is. Clad only in the night sky.

You couldn't have mentioned this BEFORE she agreed?

The wolf smiled. Wouldn't have been as much fun.

Connor sighed. "Um, the wolf says that you need to take your clothes off," he said. "Though, i guess you probably heard all that." He turned around. "Look, if you want us to wait for the full moon, you can. I don't want you to get wrapped up in some strange custom if you don't want to."

I suspect the wolf has ulterior motives like your embarrassment and perhaps more than that. Very convincing reasoning I agree but now it will tell us everything before we proceeded.

Her eyes looked past Connors and deep into the wolfs eyes. Intently backing her words with the look in her eyes.

The wolf within chuckled. Truly, Moon Child, you are as clever as your forebear. Honestly, that is what it will take. If it's not the full presence of the moon, it won't work.

Connor growled. You're being rather sordid, partner. You know that, right?

The wolf howled with laughter. Your predecessor taught me the value of a good joke. Inside, the wolf's chuckle became a wolfish frown. In honesty, I'm not completely sure this will work. But, i do know that this is how it must be. As for anything else about the ceremony...well, it may get unpleasant. There's a reason we make the compact at a young age.

Connor sighed. "I think that's the most he's going to talk. The best I can remember about the compact is that the wolf and the man meet and then agree to the terms. My mistake was trying to bargain with it."

Connor was thoughtful. "It might even be that you'll get to see both the wolf and the man, as that's how it was during the compact. But, with him already inside of me, I'm not sure how that will work."

She was self conscious about all the beating she had received from her people biting her lips though she allowed the dress to slip from her and if in response the brightness of the moon itself seemed to grow as well. She recoiled slightly from them both as she stood shaking a little.

I demand answers wolf complete honesty NOW!

She was nearly crying hating them seeing her and her seeing all the bruises and marks marring her form.

The moon did shine brighter, enveloping her fair form. Kalina shone as much within as without, her body seemingly to become a beam of pure moonlight.

Both man and beast were in awe. The wolf at beholding such a pure expression of the moon, the man beholding the pure beauty of this woman.

The marks from her beating healed as they beheld her, shrinking to almost nothing. The scars that remained appeared beautiful to the man's eyes, a mark of her strength.

What do you think? the wolf whispered, low enough for only the man to here.

"Beautiful," Connor whispered in awe.

That's when the beast broke free.

For a moment, pain seemed to spike in his brain, as the wolf broke free of his shell. The man sank to his knees, and as he looked up, he saw the wolf.

There they stood, naked as the day they came into the world. The man, the woman and the wolf.

The wolf bowed low. "I stand before you in the presence of the moon", it spoke, it's muzzle moving in the semblance of human speech. "I agree to make a compact. I will protect you and yours for all of time. In return, give me the freedom that is the right of the wolf."

Connor glanced from wolf to woman. He looked at the wolf, stood, then began his part.

"I stand before you in the presence of the moon," he said, proudly. "I agree to make a compact. I will give you the freedom that is the right of the wolf. In return, give me your strength to protect the lives of myself and mine for all of time."

The wolf nodded, then the man nodded. Both turned to the woman.

"Child of the Moon," it said. "In agreeing to partake in this compact, you, too, may make the terms. As the one blessed by the moon, anything you ask of us is yours."

Connor took up the oath. "Our lives, our spirits, are yours to command from this day forth." He smiled, warmly. "I am yours to command, Kalina."

She could not believe that the bruises and wounds were healing so quickly. Watching what happened she bit her lip not sure what to make of it but watched them carefully. When they turned to her offering her to make stipulations she did not know what to say standing there her mind went back to Grannook but that would be just a single moment thing plus she would not want to risk them in case even combined they were not strong enough.

I... I don't know... I can not risk either of you with Grannook... I... she looked between them... Stay with me.

It was all she could say... protecting her was a given the wolf and the man had already proven that by saving her she just could not word all she was feeling.

Both wolf and man bowed to her, accepting her terms.

"We are yours, bound to you, to protect and serve, to honor and guide. We will not let anyone be they man or monster, harm you," the wolf said.

"And that bastard to the west," Connor said with a growl. "Will regret the day he ever touched you, should he cross my path." He looked into her eyes. "This I swear in addition to the compact."

When their oaths were completed, the wolf melted into the air, returning to his host and partner. As the wolf returned, Connor became light headed, and began to fall forward.

She moved to help him to balance and sit down.

Careful...

She smiled a little being close to him and knowing she was finally safe here once and for all. No more fearing her people nor Grannook.

He held onto as she guided him to the heather. She smelled delicious. Though, whether that was the wolf or the man thinking it, Connor wasn't sure. Her arms were soft, and a bit of her feathery hair rested on his shoulder.

It was intoxicating. And his body reacted to it.

He was a little embarrassed that his body was reacting to this woman, his savior. But, then, a part of him was curious.

What will she do when she notices? he wondered.

"Thank you," was all he said.

Once he was back on the ground she slipped her dress back on.

I should go and find clothing for you back in the village. Unless the wolf requires more time to run then I will wait here for you.

She was not sure what to say or do about his reaction to her. All she knew were the attempts made by Grannook.

"No, please," he said, stopping her. "Just...stay with me, please?"

He glanced around before he gave a bitter laugh. "I haven't been out into the night since the first compact. It's...strange...different, now. I feel...excited and worried...maybe even...scared."

It hurt to say these things. He was a man, but he felt so exposed. "Just stay. Please?"

She nodded sitting back down there with him.

SO everything is alright... I do not see the energies aflowing through and around you any more... that is... good?

She hoped that everything was alright as she curled up into the heather.

"I..I guess so," he said. "I don't know anything about swirling energies, but he certainly seems at peace within me."

He shivered, his wolf's compact just barely protecting him from the chill.

"I don't know why," he said. "I don't want to leave this place just yet. I'm cold, but i'm...content. It's a new feeling for me."

He shivered again.

Give him... give both of us warmth wolf... please

Her words almost a whisper as she curled up and motioned that he could move closer. She was never really cold under the moon but she could feel the chill none the less and found herself wanting them close to her.

In many ways, it felt to Connor as if he'd grown fur. But a quick glance was enough to tell him that wasn't the case.

Handy being my partner and not my keeper, huh, man-pup? the wolf asked, though it sounded almost affectionate.

Thank you, Connor replied, as he curled up behind Kalina.

He tried his best to hide his apparent...discomfort, but it was hard to hide his interest in Kalina. The woman was beautiful and he was naked.

He just lay there behind her, barely touching, his hands to himself, and hoped that it would be enough to warm her.

She laid down curling up. Her eyes shut tight trying not to think about his reaction to her seeking sleep but true sleep refused her... light naps broken with memories and dreams through out the night.

Connor could...see Kalina's discomfort. How she seemed to want to get closer, but at the same time was...repulsed. Afraid.

He carefully placed a hand on her arm. Warm, comforting, protecting. He glided up and down her arm, trying to soothe her, comfort her, remind her that he was her protector, and nothing could harm her.

Driven by some unconscious thought, he gently, sweetly, kissed her shoulder.

"I am your protector, Kalina," he said. "I won't let anything harm you. Anything."

She tensed at his touch but slowly relaxed moving to curl against him knowing that he would protect her. Her eyes still closed she whispered...

All... All I have known of closeness of any kind from a man was Grannook's attempts to lay claim.

She waited to hear or see his reaction to her words fearing he might turn away from her or leave her.
