Napster, the Internet, and Stephen King

Has anyone raised the point that there are plenty of sites on the internet where you can get free MP3s? Closing down Napster won't put an end to copyright infringements (and free music!), it'll just make it a bit less convenient.

I hate the music industry anyway - the record companies are greedy beyond belief and the stars are a bunch of spoiled, annoying and often pretentious brats who 99% of the time have made it only on a pretty face :D

I'm curious to know if anyone here has gone to Stephen's site, downloaded the first installment of the new story and paid $1 (or not paid, he offers the first installment on "your honor" that if you like it you can come back and pay).

I paid the $1 for Part I, just out of curiosity. If it had cost more than that, I wouldn't have bothered.

The installment itself is about 20 pages long, and the story so far is told through a collection of letters and interoffice memos. There are a few different characters, whose "voices" are heard through their correspondence. Interesting gimmick, kind of like the novel "Fan Mail" by Ronald Munson that came out a couple of years ago, but I hope King doesn't use the technique for the entire novel. Based on what I've read so far, I'd pay for a 2nd installment.

Well, I guess if it ain't sex, the rest of them won't cop to reading it. ;)

Thanks for your insights, though! I think I will go ahead and plunk my dollar down.
