This is a sort of reverse question. Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post it.

I am working on a story where the MMC, after a busy week at work, meets a server at a restaurant and offers her a job that turns her life around. In my head, he has a routine office job, but that doesn't quite fit with him hiring her.

Any suggestions on what his job might be?

so what job is he offering her? How and why does it change her life?

Cause if it’s a job where he would need to pay a lot, then yeah, office job might not be the best unless he’s high up in the organization

Now if it’s more the job isn’t a matter of money, you could always go for MC being a private eye or something where the job isn’t more a gig and he can charge it to his clients. Like he needs her to pretend to be a date so he can get into an event

How does it turn her life around?

Has she stopped looking at price tags, or does she start every morning securing the perimeter?

Two-thousand dollar t-shirts and powdered eggs are both life-changing.

How he is able to change her life is part of the problem.

A higher-up in a marketing agency that can offer the waitress a role in an upcoming commercial that ends up catapulting her into an acting career?

Grandma Johnson: "My dear family, guess what? Today I found out what my special purpose is for. Gosh, what a great time I had. I wish the whole family could have been here with me. Maybe some other time, as I intend to do this a lot. Every chance I get. I think next week I'll be able to send more money as I may have extra work. My friend Patty promised me a blow job. Your loving son, Navin."

And he’s got the kisses here.

Father: That Patty must be a sweet girl. God bless her.

The highly secretive corporation needs a coffee barista on call on the 69th floor, someone who is efficient, friendly, discreet, and is willing to sign an NDA before pulling espresso shots for billionaires?

was under the impression that good front of house restaurant employees have a lot of people skills and perhaps a sales job with commissions would in fact change a life. Working for tips is hell.

He could be anyone really. I could walk into my HR office right now and say, "I've found someone I think would be perfect for that district sales position," and they will be more than happy to interview them. To turn her life around he doesn't have to offer her a job himself, on the spot, he just has to recognize a talent and get her in front of the right people. But in the end he is still responsible for her life improving.

It's perfectly plausible and what he does becomes immaterial. What is her skill that he's able to recognize between the entree and the dessert? That is the question.

Yeah, I could see it a number of ways. Especially since “change her life” could mean a number of things

“Here is 10k dollars. There will be 20k more tomorrow. All I need you to do is tell the police that you served me and my friend coffee until 12:30 AM. Here is a pic of my friend. Please memorize it”

Maybe he has a job that has him traveling alot to inspect or evaluate resorts. As his assistant It'll give him alot of alone time with her and it probably pays decent. She could also be a aspiring influencer and this job can make it look like she is better off than she is.

Part of it is not just what job she leaves for...but the job she currently has.

As he's eating lunch he see's that the other employee's, all men, harass her. "Innocently" touching her...making suggestive comments...she's just a thing to conquest, no respect for her as a person.

So she needs a safe place to work.

Which the MC can give her in any of the ways mentioned above.

Thanks all, you have helped me clarify my thinking, and now I have a solution that works.
Always  when a thread does a good job. Dont forget to toss it a cookie.
