We have an omerta of sorts regarding the discussion of politically-sensitive current events in class, and I do my best not to let my own opinions be known when it comes to such things. But the issue of the draft and draft evasion does naturally come up when you're nearing the end of the school year in a room full of 18-year-olds, and I do usually end up discussing methods of draft evasion. Always in a historical context, of course! They particularly like how Malcolm X avoided service in World War II, the bloodthirsty creatures. As long American oil companies or mining companies get that sweet sweet access to oil or minerals in other countries who've committed the ultimate sin of denying them that access or as long as the companies in the industrial military complex turns a profit the next quarter does it matter whether it's our sons or daughters that come back in body bags and or with limbs blown off?
Sometimes, for one reason or another, I even name-drop non-aligned nations which are unlikely to extradite US citizens who flee for political reasons. Peru and Cambodia are both high on that list.
I'm glad to report that, just from my observations, practically no one of military age is actually interested in dying or killing for the Washington elites. Those who come from military families (fairly large percentage in this area) are if anything even more vehemently anti-military than those who don't.
"Wokism" and lingering anger over the vax mandates do play a role in that, I think. But I don't think it's really as substantial of a role as Rightguide et al like to claim. I think it has a lot more to do with seeing 20 years of their parents' sacrifice so thoroughly pissed away in Afghanistan. That, and seeing our politicians fuming and raving about the dangers of Nazism, white supremacy and political extremism here at home while actively funding it in Ukraine and Israel.
