The glasses are all about signalling and association. Glasses, particularly large, thick rimmed glasses, have always been connected to geeks and nerds. It's hard to show nerdiness in with just a picture. I know there's some great porn out there of girls with geeky clothes and accessories, but it's easier to throw some glasses on a girl and boom: nerd. The glasses just create an connection in my brain to my feelings for nerdy girls.

Nerdy girls are smart, creative, and passionate. They tend to like what I like and be more eccentric in their behaviors and tastes. Known plenty of nerdy girls without glasses and non-nerdy girls with them, but slap a chick in glasses, whether she needs them or not, and it brings those feelings up.
