IsenRae, you have a very eccentric way of writing. Fragmentary, flitting. There are a few technical errors. But they're not important: you're really good at conveying the uncertainties and tensions you want to show. No AI slop-spooner could come up with a weird but believable line like this:

My heart cannonballed against my ribs and I realized I wanted to. Needed to.

To me these 2 sentences are very close to wording produced by AI.

I think you may have cut off the rest of the sentence, which changes how it lands.

"I put on the red lipstick like a decision I hadn’t said aloud. It stained my smile with intention, with a visibility that thrilled me even as it terrified me."

Also, I use the word intention deliberately in this particular piece. It matters to Elena and it's how she figures out what she wants and whether she's allowed to want it. You will find the word several times in key places.

I think context matters here. And if you're open to it, I'd be happy to trade writing with you and we could work on polishing our content together!

IsenRae, I'm new here too and have started hanging about in the AH and got worried (from what I've read here) about whether my stuff might get flagged as AI. I think my naturalistic dialogue style will save mine. But what do I know? However, your quirky, short, fragmentary explorations seem quintessentially human and authorial: there's nothing generic in what you do, it's always you tip-toeing through delicate subject matter with very individual writing. Don't worry, and keep doing it.

I'm not sure what you mean. Yes she's here in the thread. Should we acknowledge her in every post? I'm responding to a specific comment. That it entailed her work was just happenstance. My reasoning was on AI stories in general, not her work. My greatest judgement on her work was that she's clean.

I am glad of having you join the ranks of writers IsenRae. As someone said, it can get a bit rough on the forums at times.

That is fun, I like the band names.
I made up a country song for my latest story and wrote the lyrics. Then it started haunting me so I wrote the song too. Great fun, not sure I'll go to such lengths again though
