new:P

i agree-- torture cannot be just whisked away and no one can pretend like it never happened. & thats what it is -- it will go on one way or another, it will not stop simply through a law or an international law. Honestly speaking i think torture will always be there-- Azo of Bologna stated that torture is the inquiry after truth by means of torment.". and to fully define the word torture it has a universal meaning and then people can define torture on their own terms such as James Taranto, he went off in the Wall Street Journal saying water boarding was not torture, it's simply a "coercive interrogation" technique that depends on "physoclogical pressure-- i would love to talk to him and ask him a few questions-- are you interested in philosophy by any chance?

I took a bunch of philosophy classes a few years ago. Even wrote a huge paper on what I called "Platonian Disillusionment."

interesting, my major is philosophy =], I want my doctorate in it and go on to become a professor! . my favorite philosopher would be sartre and kant. & i'd love to read it if you have your paper still .

I'll see if I can find a copy of it. I ended up selling it to one of those online term paper sites. :)

haha alright, well don't go to all that trouble of finding it-- it's not important, it's just i'm always willing to read things on philosophy, for it or against it

It's a matter of personal philosophy, but I strongly favor having more pics of you.... :rose:

Ohohoho!

You weren't kidding about the discussion were you?

Oh yes, just finished my time in the poli sci battle cage. I wrote about Machiavellian ideology for the end of term paper. The Prince was written during a hard time in his life and he had mouths to feed and all that good stuff.... no, really I find it way too easy to drift when writing for humanities courses. Getting lost in the eloquent words of peer reviewed papers on the school database. lol. So great though. I have to admit that I leave those PDF files up for my own enjoyment after the paper has been turned in.

Awesome that you are taking the humanities seriously. Some of those classes have such dreadful adjunct instructors stumbling through their notes.... makes me happy knowing that someone passionate and driven will be leading those lectures one day!

AW THANK YOU <3. i could hug you. so i will -HUGGLES- <3. lol i love discussing the human nature, philosophy and i know what you mean i drift from my topic because i find a connection in everything. The world is so connected even more now because of technology. it's mind boggling & i would love to read any of your papers if you still have them! i'm sure they make a good read.

haha! Alright if you insist!

Don't start reading it unless you are desperate to get to sleep. lol. It wasn't too long thank goodness. 5 pages of rehashing is ENOUGH! No, I think I might have connected a few dots that made it substantial. Dunno.

I'll PM you and we can trade emails.

and its just 5 pages? dude i've written 15 page research papers im sure could put u to sleep and this torture paper ? its 6 pages :p and i'd love to read it! lol and i will totally give you my opinion on it after and we can discuss! :p

you guys could solve world hunger and devise the best way to bring democracy to china in your spare time

and i don't mean no gnr album LOL

Yes, well I am a molecular biology major so rehashing figures is more up my alley. lol. Oh gosh 15 pages? Well, I would love that if it were on a topic such as transgenic plants but not so much when it's on Machiavellian ideology.... thank goodness this was only 5 pages! gahh...

very intersting reading about the pro,s and cons of torture.
As a non american on this thread..and looking from the outside in>what upsets most people in other parts of the world is american foreign policy which primarily deals with...'what can we(america)get out of this?......and also as a country that defined itself by how morally superior it was to other countries that it quickly delved into the "torture state"A country cannot take the moral high ground when it,itself, has no moral standing...but as has been said ,everything isnt black and white and once you go down that path there are many grey areas.Im sure i read somewhere that torture in itself is not an effective way of getting information,as the person being tortured(in the end) will say what you want to hear.

i agree, that America sells it self like that and , they expect aide when they're in trouble its politics is not about emotions or feelings -even though countries or the people want that each leader is as corrupt as the next, it's just the media and what information they get their hands on. so Scot, i see your point and i value it because it makes a lot of sense and i've thought it through before but thats just it this is how most countries are whether their leader show their true colors or not.

Beauty AND brains...

...definitely cannot complain. Keep up the good work! ;-)

he said turn it in thursday because i fucked up my works cited. i wanted to beat him :X. but then i was all wet in class so i didnt feel like getting up.

As an American, I also agree with you to a point. "What can we get out of this" is pretty much any countries outlook at foreign policy. And I think it has to be. If you are going to help another country, you have to expect that country will help you in return, whether it be militarily in a time of war, or economicly when times are lean. If, as a country, you just do things out of the goodness of your heart, because you think its the right thing to do, you are going to be taken advantage of. As an example, and you may not agree, take the French. America has helped the French several times and it has gotten us nothing, really. Those people hate us. And if it wasnt for America and other nations during World War II, the French would not exist. They would be a part of Germany. Vietnam was the French's mess. America went in to help them and we got stuck there for years and lost thousands of soldiers. You have to look out for yourself and your people, because no one else will.
