"New Poem Reviews"
Sunday 9, 2005

In light of recent comments being made I would like to suggest that those that leave comments do so in a polite and/or constructive manner. <example> some comments become more of a riddle, rather than a helpful pat on the back. Thank You....now for poems.

21 poems arose this 'beautiful' Sunday morn.
I noticed Du made it to her location
but I will do reviews for her till she is settled <grin>

Halloween by Scott x

its getting about that time <grin> Booooo

The Perfect Man by Rebel Rose

First I am partial to "Roses" but that is not why I chose this poem, I see that most here like puzzle poems, so this should be right up a few poets alley. I still am trying to figure it out and thought y'all might like to try and soak up a riddle <grin>

the poem in itself is GOOD in my opinion!

Intimate Recollections by Slowhand60

I am sure many will point a finger to the 'Dots' but past that I found the poem to be GOOD! Lures, leads, flows and the topic is one we all have, our mental cinemas of the past 'recollections'

another offering by this poet...The Summer of Autumn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Denial by RedHairedandFreindly
a tad bit of wit and an excellent flowing poem <my opinion> I like this type of poetry, some do not, hince the difference of us all. A good topic and a very nice delivery.
Between a Story and a Song by Shannon_est
this poem hints the phrase..."I know why a caged bird sings" A very well written poem...
pointing finger at this poem for those scholastic readers, From the flow of the read to the visuals it places I have to say....this is a GEM of a poem.
A Real Funny Dilema by DCPoet44
DC writes some witty stuff, this one is not his best but I enjoy reading his mind. His writes can 'jar the thinking' process sometimes, thanks DC and please continue to share your witty thoughts with us.
Monday's reviews:
There are a scattering of new poems posted today, but to me, this one stands out among the rest:
3rd season
by 4degrees
The lines I quoted for this, I love:
Don't Blame The Content
by dcpoet44
if i am to understand myself,
artistry must come through
in all aspects of the human condition,
as it is purer than any religion.
And the rest of the new poems for your reading.
I apologize for not keeping up with who does what days, I would like to mention a poem and hope that today's reviewer could shed an even greater light on this marvelous write. I point at this poem for it is a GRAND example of indifferences, which there has been a lot of lately.
Intelligent Design by LeBroz
thanks Leon for shedding the light of enlightenment my way more than once <grin>
** AGREES with ART, this is a fine example of indifference, and I second the mention of this brilliant word play to challenge the mind of all its readers..by looking more out of instead of into.. the box.....
Twenty-three new poems this sunny fall day – here at least – my coffee mug’s empty and I’ve got things to do so with no further ado here are my picks……………….
sweat and goggle is an odd little poem by Cleo_P – her second here. I found the odd capitalization
distracting in an otherwise interesting poem.
I’m recommending It’s an odd wind by wildsweetone because she’s worked on it and it turned out well, a nice little window onto her world.
Bwana Reaper by aftershocked is well written rhyming verse, not easy to do. He also gives us recharge which is ablaze with “near-rhymes” and most of you know how I feel about that.
Dcpoet eavesdropping in the Laundromat and gives us Spin Cycle, sad and funny.
lobomao has a unique way with words, he offers six poems today of which I chose three but they’re all well worth a look. Tic Ta Toe is lightly playful and afterwards which uses dessert as an analogy for just desserts but my favourite is cat love and not just because I’m a cat person.
Read, vote and comment and – above all – write.
Hello, poets-
There are 28 new poems today, but so many of them were just... bland. Even poems written by familiar names - maybe even especially those - failed to grab my attention and/or imagination.
There were, however, exceptions - and if you ever paid attention to any of my recommendations, pay really close attention to this one:
un homme est une femme
by Tzara
I'm not going to add any comment to it, other than to say that Tristan makes his namesake justice. A first read made me wonder if he really had used the cut-up technique, but I don't think so. Well, just read it and judge by yourself.
Tzara also has another poem posted today, an erotic offering called loving jane. Its simplicity marks a wonderful contrast to the first poem I mentioned, and brings out the respect for language that usually characterizes Tzara's poetry. Contrary to what Reltne says in the a public comment there, my opinion is that a lot of what makes this poem work, a lot of what makes it stand out from all the insipid, vaguely erotic posted today, is the structure, and that final repetitive rhythm. That jazz. I'd like to have seen even more of it.
The other poet whose word caught my eye is cymry. I can't really highlight any one of the three poems she had posted today - Achanaich, Beachd-Smaoinich, and Bewildered - but the consistency I'm discovering in her body of work is remarkable; there is depth even in the simplest poems, and the evolution is almost palpable. Well worth the read.
New Poems of Thursday October 13, 2005
There are 20 new submissions to read on the second Thursday of September, and as I always do, I bring you one non-erotic "spinner" from the archives with which to start.
Today's Golden gem:
This poem comes from May of 2004 . - I found this one by JCSTREET on the fourth spin. This poet was quite prolific last year but has not posted any poetry since February. Which is a shame as you can see from this interesting read.
GUESS THAT'S HOW IT WAS
Wind and weather cats
to the ball of the house,
claw-fractured
shutters
stitched, bobbined and skeined -- CLACK!
shiver-sing and
moan house, moan
and sing, her
skin-shivered lace, the
electric
blanket, the heat, her
sleep-shaggy-curled face grimace
Windego-noise, her
face in sleep is mopsy, open
lips, bared
teeth and
one hand
one hand like an idle thing, fingers
all collapsed
on her breast, power
of her indrawn gasp
sucks breath from my lungs
The first today that I'd give a :rose: is jthserra's dancer on her toes.
This is a visual form poem. That means that the physical placement/arrangement of the words is an important part of the poem, and because of this the possible word choices are reduced due to spatial constraints. Creating one of these 'word picture' poems can be a fun exercise, but to do it well requires a skillful wordsmith with an artist's eye, and a lot of patience. Go read Delusional Ballet and see how a accomplished poet does it.
***
Secondly, sack , a well established Lit. contributor, gives us a sad and sparsely written poem titled She's Gone. This poem has been pruned to as bare rootstock as a nursery bought rosebush. Coming with only ball and stem, and needing planting in the heart's earth, plenty warm thoughty sunshine, and some emotional rain in order to blossom into fullness in the reader's poetic garden.
***
Thirdly: Hyperesthesia (a hypersonnet) by The Mutt, another established Lit. writer whose body of work is worth reading. Go read this interestingly titled and themed submission and see for yourself.
She feels the sizzle coming through the wires,
she strokes the keys with tingling fingertips,
vibrating with the throb of microchips,
her face aglow with light from cathode fires.
. . .
***
To my taste these three are the best of today, but taste is always an individual thing so there may certainly be other poems out there today that you will thoroughly enjoy. If you find ones you really like on the New Poems page, please come back and tell us about them!
And please remember that our poets need your support, so Read Vote Comment Feedback. It don’t come back around if you won’t send it out! ;)
Regards, Rybka
To A Poet, Who Would Have Me Praise Certain Bad Poets. . .
You say, as I have often given tongue
In praise of what another's said or sung,
'Twere politic to do the like by these;
But was there ever dog that praised his fleas?
~ Yeats
No new poetry as dawn gilds my horizon. I have a rather busy day ahead and may not get back on-line until much later. If anyone wants to jump in a recommend some things if and when they appear, please do so.
Have a great weekend, poets!
Spinner Play...
Since there was nothing new today... I decided to play with the spinner.....
I cannot tell anyone how many times I pushed spinner button because I kept coming up with 'friends' poems and I didn't think that was fair..... soooooo push push push push away for me.... these are the ones that struck my fancy
Well now, if a poem can be thought of as a journey, this one is an expedition. I am a little dismayed that it may have been too scary for some. Tzara is a compentent leader on this journey. I do not know where it is going (I don't get it), it kind of looks like the Wasteland, only more fun, and the joy sometimes is in the discovery.
Two monks were washing their bowls in the river when they noticed a scorpion that was drowning. One monk immediately scooped it up and set it upon the bank. In the process he was stung. He went back to washing his bowl and again the scorpion fell in. The monk saved the scorpion and was again stung. The other monk asked him, "Friend, why do you continue to save the scorpion when you know it's nature is to sting?"
"Because," the monk replied, "to save it is my nature."
End Times? by LeBroz
This poem plays with a preachers drumming for coin using the worlds catastrophes as a lure. Witty and very well written poetry.
Kindred Spirit by RedHairedandFriendly
I enjoyed the feel of this poem, it was touching and the rythm was excellent.
You're the light in my darkness,
the shadow in my day.
You're the hand that holds me close,
in many loving ways.
Rough Rider by Ryhme Fairy
This is an erotic poem that leaps out and grasps you from the beginning then gently lays you dwon.
clip~Meet me at the door.
Strip me bare
... with your teeth.
Just Once by lostandfounder
I haven't read this poet in a while and it was a treat to see two poems posted today. An eloquent write that leaves your mouth watering for some flesh to munch on <grin> nice write and good to see you, back.
channeling the leaf by McKenna Graced by the presence of beauty, McKenna spread her written art for us to share. Always a pleasure Mc~.....living Art!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Those before me by Sweet GA peaches A fluid poem that touches a topic I often thought of writing about and do not believ I could have said it better. Those that came before us and are now gone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Perpetual Emotion by Saldne This poem is intriguing but the last few lines were gripping and humorous. Although I feel they were not written to be that way or perhaps they were but they are rememorable <grin>
Haiku_Collection 2 by Matadore I offer this for the Haiku lover in us all, "Dueling Samurai" is a poetry forum thread filled with Haiku, Matadore. Haiku for you!
Blue Heron's Calm by Savannah Skye
I love nature and nature poetry so this one was right up my river <grin> I think she did a great job expressing and painting a nice mental image of naure in serenity.
Breaking by Saldne
This poem broke my heart, when a poem touches the heart I call it great poetry. This poem not only did that it tore my heart just to finish it, knowing what saldine is going through and there is not a word one that can help, all I can say is I felt this poem and know what your world is going through as I go through it in my lil world.
<poem of the day>
Pleasure and Pain ~ for whom? by LeBroz
LeBroz expresses pleasure and pain in words that touch the poet in us all <grin>well most of us anyway. A tantalizing lil poem that shows this poets versatility from the last three poems he has posted. I find this poem to be an excellent write contrary to the 'comment' left! Sorry Leon, it is always the nice guys like yourself that periodicly get such jealous remarks.
from between vermillion lips by liar
I like liar... (?) and most like his poetry!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

liaison by bluerains

blue writes poetry like that of the beautiful blue ocean, deep and wet <grin> thanks blue for all you do.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
there is a lot of poems out this Sunday and taste varies with each of us, so if you like one of the poems I did not mention, feel free to mention it and shine a spot light on our poets. I would like to add that we all came here because we enjoy reading and writing poetry. If you come here only to critic poems, please do it politely. Read, comment, vote and support the poets, please...no rude comments, that is my main complaint.
Another one from today that I think is worth a peek:
Down in the Leaves by Gardenbaby
It got itself an E. I think it got it on boldness alone. It's a wonderfully weird blend between prose poetry and hyperbolic erotic fantasy. For whatever reasons, it's a good read, a peek into a vivid imagination and a colorful vocabulary.
by the way, thanks for the mention, Art :)
I agree. This writer has potential, but could use some help. It's definitely worth reading, but please give this author some advice. I have a feeling s/he doesn't have a Word program to help with the typos and grammar issues.
Only poem I had time to read this morning was this one. It needs some work, but it's still worth a read. Three recommendations, so go read! ;)
Monday's reviews
Good morning. I have a desk full of paperwork, so apologies for the brevity of these. With coffee in hand, here we go...
lesson plan by lobomao
I can't decide if punctuation would hurt or help this. I liked the way this read aloud, and it sparked memories of playing in the grass at recess. Hard to dislike that. :)
Bug Off
by Curiouswife
Short and sassy. I wonder if the ellipses would be better replaced with commas.
***
As always, please peruse the New Poems list and let us know those poems that make you go ooooooh.
I arrive late pushed for time so apologies for the scant coverage. Frankly there are so many mentionables today I'd have liked more time but R/L is crowding me. So....
love poem by 4degrees an alliterate romp of sensual rough love that earned a green E.
jonagold and Appalachian Trail by annaswirls both very different and well worth reading.
Bedouin by kaishaku It’s amazing how much eroticism can be packed into a few well placed words.
Turning Tricks In Indiana by Curiouswife An ambiguous piece of familial rivalry.
Beneath the Towers by wildsweetone Another piece of ambiguity that leaves the reader to finish the picture.
turn back away and fall’s full needs by lobomao Two good ‘uns, the more I read it the more I enjoy this poet’s work.
Vacant by cymry A short piece packed with great lines and imaginative use of language.
Her Dance by Leroz Nice use of The Seasons as metaphor that narrowly avoids over-use of the cliché.
Lament of a Yellw Girl by yui My favourite of today’s works. It stays with the reader after the page’s been turned.
