Holly by Dustystar

I recommend that you fans and writers of sonnets ( there is a sonnet thread here somewhere ) take a look at this poem that Eve recommended.

To me, it beautifully stretches the boundaries of the form to actually make it feel new and fresh.

It is very bold and original, I think. And wonderful writing.

It was a lovely poem, thanks for pointing it out.

Speaking of sonnets, here are some that are also less traditional you might enjoy:

Okay, I'm starting to think you guys are doing this on purpose because you don't want to hear my reviews :p

Another Friday, lovely warm weather this morning, and no new poems!

In lieu of new reviews, I bring you best wishes for Christmas or Saturnalia or Solstice or Hannukkah or Kwanzaa. I plan to spend it working on my freelance stuff, as I was just informed that I have failed my college course and cannot continue in the new semester. Them's the breaks. So I will continue to submit work and try to keep up my newfound income as a freelancer. (Total to date: 75 bucks and contributor's copies!)

Best wishes to everyone here. Thanks for welcoming me back, yet again. Just can't stay away from this place!

I'll check back later today and see if anything new updated, as it's pretty early. if so, I'll edit with my reviews.

New Poems Review - 12/21

Sorry for the delay, I have been busy! That time of year!

There were 11 new poems on Wednesday, here are my two picks:

In a Looking Glass by The Rainman

Wrong Places by Dorksicle

Both are poets I am not familiar with but I find their work a breath of refreshing air during this holiday season.

As an added bonus, I got this lovely on my 5th spin in the Illustrated Poetry category. It is worth checking out: She by Iduna, Originally published 02/18/05

This review brought to you by Santa Clause.

New Poems of Thursday December 29, 2005

There are 15 new submissions to read on this last December Thursday in 2005, and as I always do, I start off with a non-erotic, or in this case, illustrated poem from the archives.

Today's Golden Oldie :
This work was posted in January of 2004 by Linbido and I found it by cheating. I didn't spin for it, I went looking for it. Click and read it and see why. I miss her posts and poems, and I miss Icingsugar too. I hope they are doing well and their branch of the family tree continues to sprout healthy twigs.

Click on: Branches And Twigs

***

Of today's 15 poems, five are listed as "erotic". If you come to Literotica to read erotic poems you will find today's offerings to be of the quality of the majority of them, but if you come to Literotica to read "fuck" poems you probably are not going to be reading these words anyway. If you must read an erotic poem today, I guess my choice would be Coitus by Fles. This is mostly an arranged collection of words and phrases on a theme, but at least there are no huge throbbing cocks slurp-slamming hot dripping pussies.

***

RedHairedandFriendly starts today's list with three poems:
Pain Cuts Deep
Hiding
Wants…
I have one problem with this writer, she tries to rhyme so hard that (IMO) she weakens her work and often trips herself up with stretched or missed rhymes or bits of "Yoda speak". I really wish this poet would forget about rhymes for awhile and begin to experiment with free verse and fresh/strong imagery. I think she has the capacity.

***

Now, if you really want to learn how to write strong free verse, read the next poem in the list, Questioning Immortality. Whether TheRainMan is a new poet at Literotica, or an elder one refurbished, he is a powerful and talented voice that needs to be heard. This is my pick of the day. It is ready for a wider forum than Lit. :rose:
. . .
He mumbles rockslides
that force him back to silent shelter
in his cave. I’ve been working up
the courage to touch the boulders
of his language. I want to remind him
of something he may have forgotten
sleeping on cement,
using the discarded breath of others
to stay alive. How it feels to be young,
in a feather bed at night
with a woman’s hair
spread yellow across your pillow
like the certainty of another sunrise.
. . .
***

eagleyez gives us a very strong and descriptive image of a Maine Icebreaker at work. It is a good expressive piece, but I think it needs a little more effort to make the title work (and there are also some spelling errors). I like the picture the words form, but to me the musical allusions seem an aside, just stuck in there to justify the title. I would like to see EE put this one on the shelf for awhile and then come back and edit it for consistency and smoothness. It is good now, but I can see it being better. Go read The Icebreaker's Symphony and see what you think.

***

Lastly today, MET, in his latest incarnation as My Erotic Trail describes sitting on his Texas porch, relaxing on his swing, reminiscing, and just. . . Shooting the Breeze. This is a deceptively simple seeming work that is a fun read. The phrases don't just "tell", they create images as they draw you along. This is a well constructed piece that demonstrates the growth of this poet. Why, there are not even any spelling or grammatical errors! ;) ;)

***

standard fishy disclaimer:
Taste is always an individual thing so there certainly may be other poems out there today that you will thoroughly enjoy. If you find ones you really like on the New Poems page, please come back and tell us about them!

And please remember that our poets need your support, so Read Vote Comment Feedback. It won’t come back around if you don’t send it out! ;)

Regards, Rybka

To A Poet, Who Would Have Me Praise Certain Bad Poets. . .
You say, as I have often given tongue
In praise of what another's said or sung,
'Twere politic to do the like by these;
But was there ever dog that praised his fleas?

New Years Eve... 2005

There was only a handfull of poems released this morning.
After an excellent morning hunting <grin ... I come in and read poetry.

Bill Dada had two poems post this day, He Fell Through a Crack in a Fi... ...this poem takes you to new hieghts, <grin>
...and I found this poem to portray perfectly those that sip a tad to much. A REMINDER that we should all be safe this New Years Eve and don't drink and drive. ... <grin> Poetry reading blues, both poems have that witty charm that Bill sprinkles into his writes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Annaswirls writes ... Sequins and Denim I am a Levi lover.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Photograph by Man Ray a picture paints a thousand words .. or a short and to the point poem as this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Distant Naval X-Mas by Sonofmydad an erotic poem with words that paint 'HOT' images.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am by Dalendria ... "I am" points to the many things we precieve and are.

that is all the poems posted today! Hope every one has a safe and Happy New Year.

Hmmm. Busy again, I'll bet.

Hey, y'all. Seven new poems today. Be sure to read Dustystar's latest, as.

Particularly you, as. ;)

It's good. Trust me.

Thanks for directing me to the poem, Tzara, I was not on lit much as I was surrounded by booger nosed nephews and nosey nose parents...and might have missed it

it IS good, I am not sure what it all means exactly  but I like the mystery and I always get this nice warm buzz in my nipples when someone writes with me in mind, especially someone with Dusty's talent, because then the buzz goes right to my brain, like all of her poetry does.

I am going to go read it again before I go to bed.

Happy New Years!

Janurary 1, 2006

a couple of poems that caught my eye...

Segregation by Wicked Eve ...still scratching my head <grin> I am sure many will find this poem to be right up their river <grin>

Barbies Curseby LeBroz.... a poem that is sure to 'chuckle your bones' ... barbie's realities.

welcome to a new year of poetry...

New Poems List ... there are several poems out this New Years Day, enjoy and have a Happy New Year.

A couple of erotic poems

really grabbed me today, both from poets I was not very familiar with. The first of these was one of those poems that outright slaps you in the face with its provacative power. Sound is an important element to sex, the breathing, the moans, the sound of a voice... for someone hungry enough it is all ear candy . Listen the to the power in catmajica's poem:

"i feel it entering
my
ear again
piercing my
mind
like a bullet"

Feel the sound, embrace its echo, read the poem.

The second erotic poem that really enticed me was the first poem posted here at lit by Teph and if this is representative of her work I certainly hope she will Stay . I did recommend that she trim a few of the modifiers from her lines, but either way, she presented some powerfully erotic images:

"let my short
pale dark hair
attempt
to tangle itself
between your
callused fingertips"

I really enjoyed her ambigious play between pale and dark, an ambiguity later reinforced in following stanzas, all providing an insightful look into the naughty versus nice ambiguity of sexual relationships. Read the poem and let it fuel your imagination.

Read these, along with the rest of today's New Poems .

Happy New Year and hey, hey... let's be poetic out there.

Tuesday, January 3rd 2006

Eight new poems appear today.

The Gift by Curiouswife reads well
but I just can’t get the message it sends.

Thorns of the Clone by one of Lit’s more prolific poets bluerains
She uses some lovely language but – again – I’m not sure what she’s saying here.

A comparatively new voice vampiredust offers Goodnight Mr Prufrock
– an elegant and haunting nod to T.S.Eliot..

A first poem from angel in spirit,
Frost could have been a run-of-the-mill kiss ‘n fuck poem
but it escapes that trap with some well chosen lines.
I think it could benefit from some editing and tightening
but it’s a good debut.

Reclaiming Their Throne by LeBroz is a somber sobering-up after what is, for some,
the saddest time of year.

depth by another new-to-Lit poet Decayed Angel is a compact and rich little poem.
Beautiful and another fitting debut.

The Gentle Man06 – yet another new voice – has an unusual format style that, for me, is a distraction.
In the cleverly titled Private Investigator it works against the flow of an – otherwise – good work.
The RainMan has already made the suggestions in his comment
that I would have if I lived any where but the west coast.

Last but by no means the least is Reltne’s Morning After Birth Control that could be a whole new marketing slogan for cooking spray.
It made me smile on this gloomy Tuesday.

As always, I encourage you to read, vote and comment. A Happy 2006 to all.

2006.01.04

Hey, all.

Duckie and I agreed to both do reviews on Wednesday. Kind of like "Ebert and Roeper" for Lit poetry or something.

There are 28 new poems today, though due to many multiple submissions, only ten different poets. Here are my recommendations:
  • Conversation with my brain #1 by steve porter is a funny piece that reads something like HAL9000 and Keir Dullea doing a variation on the Abbott and Costello "Who's on first?" routine. At least steve's brain talks to him. Mine never seems to want to converse with me.
  • The 2006 model of MET, My Erotic Trail, presents some vivid images in Wind Dancer. Well worth reading, though a bit uneven in my opinion. I particularly liked "little laps of water / brushed like a song".
There are a whole bunch of other poems out there for you to browse while waiting for Duckie's undoubtedly more comprehensive review. Go check 'em out, folks.

Back from the wonderful world of financial stability. After reading Tzara's post, it makes me wonder if I'm Ebert or Roeper. :D

On to the poems...

As mentioned above, there are 28 new ones.

Conversation with my brain #1 by steve porter grabs more than all the rest, due in large part to its quirky nature.

Another that drew interest was I'm Cleaning the Garage by just pet. With this one, I would really like to see it reworked and tightened, without some of the more common phrases and images. I liked the 'feel' of this piece, but am craving to see it edited.

Not exactly more comprehensize, Tzara, but we'll see about next week. :)

New Poems of Thursday January 5, 2006

There are 18 new submissions to read on this January day, and as I always do, I start off with a non-erotic "spinner" from the archives.

Today's Golden Oldie:
This work was posted in June of 2002, and I found this poem by smithpeter on the first spin, Sometimes you just get lucky. Here is another piece by the missed master in his best know nom de plume.

Nova Scotia

No better place to land boots
Kiss a poet on her cheek, his cheeks
There are mists that subdue
There are metal boats, ground flowers
There is an endlessness this close
To the edge of places
***

The new list starts strongly with TheRainMan telling us about Nana's Colored Angels. If you haven't read these words before, then you now have your assignment for the day. Go read this poem! :rose:
I recall oddities from grandmother's house—
bits of banter at the sewing club,
the scattered rattle of teacups, the Times
piled higher than me. And her
glass angels. Their rainbow of goodness
glowed above the bay window.
. . .
***

Unfortunately, after such a strong start, I find nothing quite as good to follow. There are two fairly short poems by steve porter, I am the hero of my dreams and lana, that you may wish to read, and both cloudy and wildsweetone gift us a poem with One of Us and Secrets respectively. However, aside from these five poems I find my fancy mostly untickled today.

I'd be interested in hearing some other opinions on this one Webcamgirl
The first stanza may make you want to stop reading further, but go past that to the end. It needs work, but... it is interesting.

No new poems today, so go back and read your favorites from yesterday and comment, vote, masturbate or whatever else they move you to do.

My advice: votes are a lot easier to clean off the keyboard.

A very moving write is Sago Diaries by Decayed Angel. Powerful images of the recent Sago mine tragedy. Read it twice to really appreciate the impact.

A few more...

A travel diary penned from the edge of despair. Randi Grail makes no excuses and lets a poem flutter in the wind in the simple but powerful lines of Debris On A Cresent's Trail. if the references connects dots for you, as it did for me, it contains a whole novel.

Dustystar trickle out some memorable musings in all that survives/mannequin. Not the absolute a-game from one of Lit's finest poets, but that's only because she has set the bar so damn high. So it's still one of the best of the day. And week. :)

Symbiorotica by deviatedwolf625 is an odd little piece that needs to be read, three times, and fast, before it settles and starts to come to life.

And finally, neonurotic really gives me the munchies with Femme à La Carte. :D
