Many people outside the twin cities want to leave Minnesota and create a new state of East Dakota. That would be a hard sell while older and better cases for statehood are ignored, particularly Jefferson and Puerto Rico. A simpler solution is move the Dakota boundaries eastward to extend both states. Minnesota is a third prairie and two thirds forest, so moving the borders to the edge of the prairie would make some sense. That would also balance the states' populations.

A better solution would be vote out the legislature and get rid of the laws which make living in Minn difficult.

But that's not very dramatic or newsworthy and especially hard to do when the voters live in a megalopolis which controls the vote results and they vote for the handouts that they're promised but which never seem to materialize without more oppression and taxes.
