On the outside, Sonja DiNozzo was all smiles. Inwardly, though, she was grimacing and steeling herself for the confrontation to come.

At eighteen, Sonja could count the number of dates she had on both hands. Well, perhaps that was an exaggeration, but not by much. Not that Sonja didn’t have opportunities. Sonja’s parents had allowed her to go out on non-group dates since she was sixteen. And the 5’2” curvaceous Italian-American cheerleader, with her shoulder length dark hair, soft brown eyes and flawless light olive complexion, had more than her fair share of admirers. And it wasn’t that Sonja wasn’t interested and curious about the opposite sex. Although Sonja considered herself a good girl, who was going to save her virginity for someone she loved, she still wanted to experiment a little. Not too much, but just a little, with ‘little’ being a vaguely defined term.

No, the problem was that Sonja had yet to date someone who interested her. The few guys she had dated were the ones who were considered proper for her, i.e., star athletes and/or guys who were ultra-popular. But not one actually interested her. Take Brad, for instance, the young man who was presently driving Sonja home from the senior prom. Her Mom had commented what a wonderful couple Sonja and Brad made when Brad picked her up for the prom. And Brad was good looking, with his muscular build, blue eyes, stylish blond hair and easy smile. The thing was, Brad knew he was good looking. And outside of his good looks and athletic abilities, there simply wasn’t anything to Brad. And Brad wasn’t the smoothest operator when it came to romance. For one thing, he moved way too quickly, and the first time he grabbed hold of Sonja’s breasts (34D), he treated them as if they were fumbling footballs that he was frantically trying to recover. Sonja had quickly pushed his hands away, but not before the damage was done. Sonja had bruises from Brad’s grip on her skin for days.

But tonight was the last straw. After getting their official prom pictures taken, Brad had left her standing by the wall for most of the dance, spending the time drinking with his buddies from alcohol they had smuggled into the dance. The one time that someone had asked Sonja to dance, Brad came storming onto the dance floor and dragged her off, much to her embarrassment. And at the end of the dance, Brad took it as a given that Sonja would be accompanying him to a local hotel for a traditional senior prom ‘celebration.’ Only the fact that she had threatened to call her father to pick her up had prevented Brad from just leaving her at the dance (Sonja’s father had a reputation of a man whom you angered only at your own risk).

As Brad pulled into the driveway of Sonja’s darkened house, he muttered, “Sorry if I did anything you took the wrong way.”

“That’s fine, Brad. I’ll talk to you at school,” Sonja answered, quickly unbuckling her seatbelt and moving to open the door. A spattering of rain began hitting the windows of Brad’s car as Sonja thought to herself, Of course it’s raining.

Sonja was caught by surprise as Brad surged from his seat to hers, slamming her into the passenger door. “Bitch, I said I was sorry. I expect you to acknowledge that.” The alcohol on Brad’s breath as he slurred his words almost made Sonja gag. Sonja got the door open and scrambled out of the car. “Brad, just go home. We’ll talk later.”

Brad made a grab for Sonja, but only succeeded in sending her sprawling into her lawn. The hint of rain suddenly became a deluge, as Sonja tried to stand up. Unfortunately, an earlier brief but heavy rain had made the area Sonja had landed in fairly muddy, and her heels were giving her no traction. By the time Sonja was able to stand up again, the rain was coming down in buckets, she was covered in mud, and a drunken and angry Brad was almost right on top of her, with blood and lust in his eyes.

Eric was buried in his own misery. He was home alone on what was supposed to be the biggest night of his life so far, prom night. Right now he should be having the time of his life, instead he was alone in his room watching old movies on cable and surfing the Internet. He would of liked to have gone to prom if he could've only found a date. He wasn't that bad looking, even though, standing at 5'7" he was a little on the short side and his clothes and hair where about a year out of style. That with not being very athletic or coordinated most people took him for a nerd or a geek. Still, he had a square jaw and a friendly smile. His real problem was handling himself in groups. He never knew what to say or what to do around people. Unfortunately for him high school was nothing but groups and social circles.

"Of course it's raining" he said as he dragged himself up from his computer desk. Walking to his window he pulled back the curtains looking out into the rain. He hoped to see lighting or a UFO or a ghost anything to take his mind off of how lonely he was right now. He didn't see any lighting or any UFOs or any ghosts. What he did see was his next door neighbor Sonja lying in the mud.

Sonja had been his neighbor for almost half his life. She was the same age as him and they had shared a few classes over the years. Honestly though he had no idea what kind of person she was. He admired her looks and her body but was always intimidated by her, so like always he just kept his distance.

It was hard to make everything out in the heavy rain and his window was on the second floor but he could clearly see Sonja struggling to pick herself up from the muddy ground. He also saw what looked like Brad another one from his school with her. "What a jerk" he said to himself, "He's not even helping her". Eric didn't even realize anything was wrong with the situation until Brad grabbed Sonja by the shoulders shaking her furiously. He watched as he pulled her close to him his hands groping her body and invading her soiled dress. When he saw him try to pull her back into his he'd had enough.

Eric raced down his stairs as fast as he could. In reality it only took him a minute to reach his front door but to him it seemed like an eternity. He had time enough to think about what the hell he was doing. Brad was almost twice his size and a star athlete. What was he going to do when he gets outside? He should just call the cops, but be knew the damage would be done by the time they finally showed up. Eric didn't know if it was a god or devil but something was giving him courage. He didn't hesitate for a moment as he reached his front door. Throwing it open he ran out into the storm barefoot dressed in nothing but shorts and an undershirt.

The fight in the mud with Brad might have been comical, if Sonja didn't know that the moment that Brad got a firm hold on her and was able to drag her back into his car and firmer 'footing,' the comedy would quickly turn into a nightmare.

Brad had shook her, ripped her dress and tried to repeatedly paw and molest her, all the while attempting to drag Sonja back into his car. Each time he did, though, either his footing or his grip on Sonja would give. Sonja had even managed to place a few well kicks during the struggle, including one that was very 'strategic.' Instead of disabling Brad, though, the kick had seemed to spur him on.

Sonja was hoping that somehow her father, who was only a dozen yards away, would have somehow detected the fight going on his front yard. But it seemed the late hour and the storm were conspiring against Sonja.

One of Brad's flailing fists managed to finally connect, landing solidly on Sonja's jaw and stunning her. The momentarily victorious Brad threw Sonja over his shoulder and began shuffling over to his car.

Eric had no idea what he was doing. In a matter of minutes he went from sulking in his room to running out in a rainstorm to play hero. Time seemed to slow to a crawl as he ran across the lawn. Through the biting rain he saw Sonja fall to the ground, Brad lifting her over his shoulder. He reached them just as Brad was pushing Sonja into his car.

"What the fuck is wrong with you" he yelled pulling Brad away from Sonja Adrenalin surging through his system as he pushed Brad aside sending him sprawling into the mud. "Are you okay" he said to Sonja as he reached to help her.

Suddenly, Eric was the one being pulled away. Brad attacking him from behind as he was helping Sonja out of the car "you're dead" he said grimly. For a moment Eric was tempted to run but pushed the cowardly idea away. He squared his shoulders and threw his fist at Brad, his punch landing on his chin.Brads head jerked to the side before he stumbling backwards. Eric was surprised at his courage and even began to congratulate himself for standing up to the brute. That was short lived though, as he felt Brads fist smash into his face. He wasn't sure exactly what happened after that but he felt a second punch land across his cheek then another into his gut that doubled him over. What felt like a kick into his chest sent him down to his knees. Pure instinct took over then as Eric struck back. Gripping Brad by his shirt collar he pulled him down,at the same time Eric brought his head up connecting with Brads nose. Brad fell back his nose broken and bloody. He mumbled something to himself as he stumbled away. Eric collapsed on the ground exhausted and pain. He wondered what made him get involved in the first place. Just then Sonja, his damsel in distress, caught his eye. Her clothes were muddy and torn, her face streaked with tears but in that moment in Erics eyes she couldn't have been more beautiful.
