Being inside of a large office building with the same old people day after day can wear you down. There were over forty people, each one with their own cubicle and I have my own, large office as CEO. It was a position I inherited after our last man was fired, but the circumstances of which are clouded in office gossip and I was given the position as senior. It was something I leap at because it not only meant higher pay, but also a better position on the ladder. Here at this insurance agency it was a very competitive business but I would rather do business honestly. I had a reputation of being honest, even if that would make our business look uneasy, and there was a great deal of grumbling from others who think I was given the job unfairly, but each day I came in on time and took it seriously making sure to get through the paperwork and use the phone to dial the right people. I was always caught up in business that I did not have time for a relationship, nor even a chance to go out on the town and be with the guys. There was no time as so much was riding on my shoulders and I was playing catch up to what my predecessor left behind.
This morning I came to work and found a three inch stack of papers on my desk and frowned upon it. "Great" I growled "Hanging up my coat behind the door and walking around the desk to look out the bay windows facing the city and its many towering skyscrapers that looked down upon me and wondered how many people would be seeing me. Shoving my hands into my trouser pockets I let out a sigh before going over to the desk and sitting down in the plush, black leather chair and drawing out the first of the papers. More claims and more counter-claims or appeals.
