There will be a new Valentine’s Competition support thread created in the future. This one is no longer active.

I’m sure it will be memorableInvesting again. It's my favorite holiday anyway, and I have no idea of what to do now.

Before you know it, it will be that time of year again and you’ll feel the prick () of Cupid’s arrow. Time to get writing now for those of you who like to go on for a long time and to polish your jewels a lot
.
[dates will be revised if applicable]
You can begin submitting on (or before): January 10
The last day to submit is: February 6 at 11:59pm EST
Winners will be announced on: February 13
Here's the rules:
Author must copy and paste the phrase "VALENTINES DAY 2027" to the "Notes to Admin" field of the submission (quotes are not needed).
- All submissions must be stand-alone stories created for this contest theme.
- If you have won a prize in one of the last two special contests, you are not eligible to win in this one.
- A story has only to accrue 25 votes to be eligible, rather than the 50 required for the monthly contest.
Again -- PLEASE do not forget to put the EXACT phrase "VALENTINES DAY 2027" IN THE "Notes to Admin" FIELD - NOT the description field or anywhere else.
Submissions must have a Valentine's Day theme: i.e. Cupid, soulmates lost and found, high quality chocolate gifting, etc. Be creative! Please don't just submit a normal story that just happens to contain red roses. That would not be in the spirit of the contest, and readers (aka voters) will likely punish you for your trickiness.
Bring your questions and comments here, we're all here to help each other!

Clarifying note
Given @Eosphorus’s question last year. You don’t have to set you story on Valentine’s. My 2025 entry spanned a year between two Valentine’s days. You could do a monster fucking romance in space. You can do an elf falling in love with a goblin in a parallel universe. But romance and Valentine’s adjacent stuff is required. Maybe in universe instead of chocolate and flowers you have pangalactic garglebalsters. You could have an enemies to lovers story set on Mount Olympus and featuring Cupid and a male demigod…
I'm still trying to figure out what to write for Halloween. Then we have the holiday contest.. so much pressure!I posted the analogous thread at the beginning of October last year. I know some people put a lot of time and effort into their entries, so here we areIsn't it a little early for this thread?I'm still trying to figure out what to write for Halloween. Then we have the holiday contest.. so much pressure!
I understand, I'm just teasing. I haven't even started Halloween. This one isn't officially over yet and I already feel behind! Summer Lovin' was the first contest I submitted for before the start date.I posted the analogous thread at the beginning of October last year. I know some people put a lot of time and effort into their entries, so here we are.
Do I have to get the whip outStill working on Halloween and have the vaguest flicker of an idea for the Holidays and now you want me to think about Valentine’s Day? Aargh!![]()
Ooh, would you, Ma’am?Do I have to get the whip out?
I'm finishing up a second or third Holiday entry now, but my little mind is actively casting about for a VDay tale. I might have already done one earlier this year; I think I remember writing one. I'll have to check.
Either way, plenty of time!
Author insertion is a bitchBut it's got one of my usual problems: a narrator who's an asshole.
Very O. HenryMaybe I’ll try again on that one. I had planned and even started a story for this past Valentine’s contest, but with a lot of crazy crap with work, I never even got it fully fleshed out and just dumped it.
Also not sure what other categories it would fall under. The idea was a young barely getting by married couple wanted to do something nice since their 5th Valentine’s as a couple (not just married) was going to be on a weekend but just can’t afford it.
When discussing this with friends/coworkers while not with each other, they each get approached by Madams offering to hire them for their Escort Service. They ended up taking these Madams up in their offers so long as their spouse doesn’t find out. Turns out that these Madams are business partners and don’t talk to each other as often as they should and once all is said and done the ladies realize that their new hires are married and have to make sure they’re careful to not send them to the same places to meet with clients to keep up their end of their agreements. They eventually find out by accident and not only stay together, but they keep escorting for these ladies and leaving their day jobs.
Thanks!Very O. Henry![]()
Good luck with itThanks!
I have some ideas from my original attempt I want to recycle into this one, including how they find out and then set up the reservations for their stay of choice.
Thanks. I’m going to do something different than just using my phone to type that and some of my next stories up, just waiting on a couple things to arrive.Good luck with it![]()
I don't do contests, but this will be a good time to start thinking of a nice present for the redhead.
