Obama criticizes Republican position on immigration

Low-ball estimates put the number of Mexican, Latin, and South American illegals currently in-country @ 11 million...

...reading an article a couple of days ago announcing the president's appearance in El Paso, a woman who belongs to a group pushing for amnesty stated that it would take $300 billion and 200,000 buses to deport 'em.

Does ammo really cost that much?.....:D

A perfectly good place to start would be here in sheer numbers of who was being deported. If Obama was the guy you claim he is he would have quietly cut back on deportations, he certainly wouldn't have stepped up the game. Since Obama's NOT getting any credit for this even if you agree with me that it might not be the best plan to let a bunch of guys go home without being fucked out of ever coming in legally as an underhanded way to massage the numbers but it's a lot of work to do for something you're not getting any credit for. So by numbers he's setting records, he's clearly out performing Bush in this and Bush tried for Amnesty twice and Reagan actually passed an amnesty. How far back are we going to look to find a year when we were working harder to keep the border safe?

Now the simple fact is that you'd be far better off starting by making E Verify an absolute law, you want to be an employer you use E-Verify. It's free, it's reportedly about 98% accurate. Then have people doing perodic sweeps. Make the risk of hiring illegals sufficient that people stop doing it. No jobs will cut down on the "good" illegals quickly enough. It won't do shit to stop drug dealers and if there are terrorist sneaking across like the Right likes to claim and honestly I don't refute if there are LESS people coming it'll be easier to focus on the bad ones right?

Where was this anger the eight years under Bush? The eight years of President George W. Bush’s administration saw a marked increase in illegal immigration and a drop in immigration enforcement throughout much of his tenure. For example, the number of illegal aliens arrested in workplace cases fell from nearly 3,000 in 1999 to 445 in 2003, with the number of criminal cases against employers during this period falling from 182 to four. Not surprisingly, by 2005, there were an estimated 10-20 million illegal aliens living in the United States.

Don't get me wrong I'm 100% against amnesty. It didn't work overwell last time and there is little reason to believe that it would work a whole lot better this time around. They will continue to come so long as the opportunity to work exists here. Since they'll keep doing that the amnesty is actually WORSE than it looks because those newly legal workers will demand US wages and. . .not get hired. So new illegals will take their place and we'll have 20 million new welfare cases and we'll probably get a fresh batch of mexicans right underneath em.

Aside from hating Mexicans however there is no reason not to support the Dream Act, it needs to be tightened up some, high school or ATTENDING college isn't enough but if you've already graduated from college or served in our military it's equal parts stupid and douchy to deport you. Once they've graduated college, well the damage is basically done at that point and they'd be an asset to the nation. I'll admit that being in the military doesn't mean you have a marketable skill but I have this soft spot that thinks if you're good enough to and willing to die to be an American then what the hell your in. It's not exactly like you can get through the military without speaking English.

Now if you want to make the argument that what Obama is doing is insufficient. I whole heartedly agree. I don't think he's in a position to do what he needs to do. If the E-Verify isn't new and Republicans had 6 years of uncontested total rule of government and if you think for a second that Democrats would have had the balls to obstruct a law making it illegal to hire illegals. . .well sorry I don't live on Bizarro earth. There is no support for amnesty. Successfully marrying Democrats to anything resembling full on amnesty. . .hell that might be enough to get rid of OBama in 2012.
