I think one of the reasons Laurel is so down on people ripping off copyrighted material is that so much has been pirated or plagiarized from this site. People all over the web use stories, without permission of the authors, that appear on this site and they use them for commercial gain and provide neither compensation nor accreditation. Some of them are even Laurel's competitors.

This is definitely part of it.

Those articles are the result of hours of effort on the part of the author and money spent by the news org which pays them.

In a free market, the fruits of our efforts do not go into a communal pool for society to use however we like. We own the things we create. And we deserve credit for our creations.

I don't see why it's harder to quote a paragraph or two and supply a link than it is to paste the whole thing into a form.
