I didn't say there weren't people actually sitting with fingers on the buttons next to a dead man switch....I know there were. I even know some officers who spent quite a bit of time at the bottom of a missile silo doing just that.

I am not exactly sure of your age but I suspect you were not quite old enough to have experienced when with great relief the cold war "ended." (It actually did not end but it felt like it did.)

I was a small child but I remember watching the wall fall on TV and my parents making a big deal of it.....

Mutual Assured Destruction was MADness, of course but it was also the actual policy in place for both countries. Both countries had the actual, not theoretical, actual, ability to ruin the planet. More than once, we came close to "oops."

He didn't even fight for Universal Health Care instead immediatly going to Romney Care, has made very little progress on gays (though to be fair he didn't claim he would), didn't do shit for the environiment other than some half assed coal restrictions and not signing off on one oil pipeline, has had no appreciable affect on immigration. Has continued most of the Bush Foreign policy. He's tried his best to bring us together, you refusing to meet him three quarters of the way to your house isn't his fault.

So thats the game, first blame the previous administration during the first 6 years of "hope and change" and then apologize for the last administration with you tail between you legs during your last 2 years?

How many battalions of troops did we send to the slaughter for the Cold War?? Can you name some of the city leveling battles that raged for days/weeks?? What date did congress declare war on the USSR??

True story...I was talking strictly in the context of US v. USSR in "Teh Cold WHARRRRR!!!" but I agree with you on that title.

Amongst the worlds highest living standards on every league table, much less unequal wealth distribution than the USA and UK, excellent socialised healthcare, the worlds highest aid contributions to developing countries, and more women in commanding positions in public life than just about anywhere in the world. And he's genuinely tried, though hampered by Republican opposition, to try and remedy the fact that the USA has the most unequal and worst healthcare provision in the developed world.
