Aidan seems to have dark dreams so I guess a cheerful ferret might help... plus I make a great wrap in the winter.... Can't say that about a cat.... bounds up to her like a ferret and snatches her sock from her foot then bounds off with it ATTACK 1 and I'm not even the in story yet. occ: ok this is the rules kinda.. The witches are new and do not know much of anything. Since you are her familiar, you will tell her about you and why you are there.. you can not speak as a ferret merely send mental messages. At night you take human form, when you change from ferret to human you will be nude Since ferrets wear no clothing. She wont know why you are there and what your purpose is. Your purpose is to protect her, aid her, do as she commands without question unless it is harmful to her. She cant command you to kill her that sorta thing. You will have no magic other than to change your color while as a ferret, in a human form we arent sure of yet. But when human you function as human, eating sleeping sex etc make sure to describe yourself as ferret and in human form so she gets the idea of your size and etc. You give advice to her, be her friend, in most cases her lover, and whatever else she has need of you for. It isnt like you are a slave, because Familiar's are wise and help to teach the witch things. Sound good?

Actually, the reason that cats are the most common Familiars (If you are as well versed in magicial terms as I am, which is why I call myself The GrandMage) are nonhuman.

Cats are the most common in normal settings because they don't draw attention. A cat is a pet normally associated with a woman. And, as long as the cat isn't black (hence Thomas the Familiar's ability to shift fur color) no one suspects the owner as a witch.

A Gopher, or ferret, or whatever on the other hand...Well,...

That's gonna raise a few eyebrows. But, also, it will explain any akward behavior. Though, my cat will be able to wander around without attracting as much attention to itself.

You have to remember, in olden times, the only pets that stayed indoors were cats. Even dogs got the ol' shoveroo out to the barn...

I like that you want Katy. That's what made me drawn to you. I read the thread before I picked you hun. And I figured as GM put it, an obscure familiar can explain the odd behavior, for the time. Plus I may be voyeur, you have to find out. And if I get frisky. I'll just go nibble on sweetp's toes. I'm easy to please and please real well. So if you do need to play... ferret's are the best at it.

hmmmmm.... let me see if I can demonstrate a ferret happy acurately in words. If not I can record it and send a copy to you if you want.

Imagine. Long skinny body forming a hump _/\---- somewhat like that. The ferret bares it's teeth usually and begins to bounce around uncontrolably and I mean really wacko... most of the time they fall over and just roll and keep on bouncing there head flailing from side to side. It is the funniest animal behavior ever. At first you think something is wrong but they chuckle while they do it.

HELP US FIX A POSSIBLE PROBLEM HERE!!!

Angel and I seem to have two different ideas on how to handle her familiar and I think we would like some advice her. Her female attration seems to make it difficult for me to her familiar in the lover sense and I let her know I have no problem with that. I pm'd her asking if she wanted me to play my char as a female because I have no problem with that either or play as a man and just a companion. She seemed to add in the twist, because I wrote to her while she was asleep and I was intending it to be early day light hours, that I can be human form during the day and animal at night. I want to get everything worked out before the characters get cemented in to where it is hard for them to change.
I had a few options I think I live with if anyone can give an opinion on which they think is best for the story would work.

1. I stay as Able and human in the day animal at night
2. I stay as Able and regular rules apply
3. I switch Able to Abby and regular rules apply

I want to get this is as right as possible because I think the way things are going it would be counter productive to the familiar relationship. I would work and be away from her during the day so it wouldn't help in protecting her type of thing. So everyones input is appreciated on this one because I know I'm not knowledgable on the theme. I'll see if I can come up with some info to help the answer and I am open to other options. Especially from Angel since it is her char I would mostly be affecting. And I want angel to take in consideration the whole protection side of my char when talking about day time events.

Time references

I'm not sure if people mind the individual threads inside the thread being at different times. It makes two character interactions easier, but I am seeing a wide spread change in time between everyone's individual interaction. Would like some input on that too. Because it appeared to me that a few agreed it was day time then it turned to midnight, not wanting to pick on anyone but inky's entrance kind of made a point to me. I did the same thing as well. So help us all get all of it straight.

occ: the reason the Familiars are coming in durring the night is becuase thats when they are supposed to. the posts that are now saying its night, is the same night Katy's familiar came to her. And they will catch up to us in the morning time. Katy has been through her night, now the rest will go through theirs. Once everyone has met their familiar, they will make it morning. It is hard to make it the same time for each person in this thread. We're all still catching up. Once we all get to the same morning we can continue to post from there all together.

As for the familiar with Angel. it is up to her I will wait on my advice and see what happens. This thread has my going 90 mph i am slowing it down alot to give everyone a chance to catch up to where i am. If i have to i wont post for several days in this thread if thats what it takes. It is my fault its different times. But once all the witches meet their familiars we shall go from there.

They DO NOT have to be MALE

Common physical familiars- cats, dogs, rabbits, polecat(ferret), and some birds.

Mostly acts as protector in non-physical ways: Leaving rooms when questionable people come in, not entering places of danger, watching dangerous people closely, sensing harmful spirits, etc. Aiding in magic by strengthening witches power. Intense mental connectedness. Teaches witch specific skills and spells: fox- ability to hide and disappear, Birds- flight?, and other skills that animals have instinctively. Help the witch to understand the interactions of different natural forces. They can be used to look where the witch cannot be. Mental possesion type of stuff. Most sources listed this type of stuff.

Astral familiars are possibilities as well. They are famililiars which attach to humans. Another possiblility

occ: alright Gopher, i agree with this.. Since this is a made up story and anything goes in these things, well except for weird behavior i might not like lol, you are a female ferret. By day a ferret by night a woman/girl.
Now a familiar doesnt HAVE to be a sexual partner. It is your choice. there is no law that states a familiar is a sexual partner. Infact i think a familiar never really changes into a human at all. that part is made up. and works in our interest
Grand correct me if i am wrong with that statement.

It takes some getting used to writing in Lit. i hope all the new comers feel welcome and write for fun. but it is just a story. and please remember not to post responces for other wirter's characters please.
