According to the article... "Union Products made 250,000 of its patented plastic pink flamingos a year in addition to other garden products."

I assume it was a design patent, meaning that they were the only ones allowed to produce it.

Mr. rgraham666: I am the foster mother to three pink darlings (rescued from a trailer park 'suburb' of Bakersfield, CA). I don't know how I'm going to break this news to them, but thank you for the warning, it would have been too traumatic had they heard it from the television.

I figured as much. Other things are patented and still produced by multiple companies though.

Dead they may well be, however they will live on in [some of] our memories!

*HUGS* Grushenka. I feel you pain.

So sad that such a tragedy bought you to this place, but welcome. *HUGS*

Number 6 birdshot in a 12 gauge shotgun works wonders on them....

I told the ex i never wanted to see one in my yard.... came home from work to find four.... four shots later there was a lot of pink plastic bits left..... :D

My grandmother, bless her heart, had two plaster flamingos in her back yard next to her birdbath. They started out bright pink but soon faded to a powder pink. I remember as a child playing with them...making them bounce back and forth. They were stuck in the ground on steel legs.

I miss those pink birds. :(

If the pink plastic flamingo is dead, then someone needs to come and tell his brothers and sisters that are stuck in the ground in front of a restaraunt in town. I don't want pink tears all over me,so I'm not telling them the news!!

Call me a redneck, call me what you will, but I have two of the gorgeous, plastic birds in my backyard!! I'll tell you what, they are damned easy to take care of, no feeding, just a hosing down once in a while...

My mother has two fo them on the front lawn, and we aren't any of those things we're supposed to be calling you.

From the article

Featherstone and Plante are hoping for a resurrection. Plante has been seeking another company to buy the molds. So far, two companies in the U.S. and one in Canada have expressed interest.

Bearing in mind that I've been living on Doritos, Nyquil and Amoxicillin for the past week, I'm now wondering: If the molds are sold to another company, and they get resurrected, are they then undead flamingos or something? And what does an undead flamingo live on?

Zombie flamingos.

A guy a few towns over from me does a different sport with his flamingos every season in his front yard. A baseball game in spring, football in summer, basketball and hockey in the winter. All birds complete with helmets, bats, bases, goalposts, nets etc. It's hysterical. :D People actually stop their cars and take pictures.

Well Gawd Damn,

All of our Trailer Park Decorations are slowly going away.

First they did away with the Soda Can Tabs so we can't make those neat chains of them.

Then they started banning the use of Tires and Toilets as front yard planters. (They said the Tires are a health threat and they said the Toilets are just plain tacky. What do they know?)

Now they're doing away with our beloved Flamingoes. Good thing I have a bunch of them Stockpiled.

Next thing you know they'll ban Clotheslines.
