Oh no he di'nt!

I love how we've got ice bergs melting all over the place and yet you guys say climate change and global warming isn't happening.

We've always had iceberg melting. They break of from glaciers or continental ice sheets, float into warmer water and melt. That's what icebergs are supposed to do. If they don't, they will cover the world in the worst ice age ever.

Global warming. What a scam! When I was in college in the 70s, the hippies and yippies were yammering about the coming ice age! And it wasn't just a theory; it was a FACT that all "scientists" just knew was going to happen! And so did all the basket-weaving and political science majors who couldn't be bothered to take a real science class and maybe do something about it.

Now, with equal fervor, they embrace the Global Warming dogma. And when actual data is shoved in their face refuting the facts of actual global warming, they hastily modify their rhetoric to the noncommittal title of "climate change." Yeesh, morons AND cowards, afraid to take a stand and unable to understand one if they did take it.......Carney

I think you will find that it was GOP pollster and advisor, Frank Luntz, who first advised the use of the term "climate change," instead of "global warming," and not the Democrats. Luntz may even have coined the term, I am not sure. He supplies the GOP with focus group tested books of words and phrases, one of which was "climate change." I am not going to list sources as this is so well documented that a simple Google serarch will list at least a page of sources.

Global warming is too simplistic a term for what is happening and is likely to happen. For example, one probability is that the Gulf Stream will stop flowing. That would dramatically change the climate in the UK and Western Europe, bringing much colder winters with snowfalls like Newfoundland. Although "global warming" will have caused it, the impact on the UK could be a much colder climate.

There is another effect - solar dimming. Many cities and countries are now getting much less sunlight through the atmosphere than they used to even 10 or 20 years ago. Some parts of SE Asia are overcast by an almost permanent brown cloud of smoke and soot. The solar dimming can affect the monsoon seasons.

IF the ice sheets melt to such an extent that the Arctic Ocean is clear water all year, that might precipitate changes in other Ocean currents that could lead to another Ice Age.

If a supervolcano erupts, we could have a volcanic "nuclear" winter...

"Climate change" is a more accurate term for the effects of global warming. The effects of an overall rise in global temperates could lead to dramatic local drops in temperature, or rises, or desertification, or more storms, hurricanes, tornados, flooding etc. What small districts may experience may be hotter, colder, wetter, drier - but the cause is the same - climate change.

My originial post was in reply to Carney's false assertion that it was the Left who invented and promoted the term "Climate Change." I was pointing out that it was the Right's Frank Luntz who promoted the term, not the Left and Luntz did it not for accuracy, but because "climate change" was less frightening than "global warming" and therefore easier for Republicans to deal with politically.

I have no argument with the statement that global warming causes climate change, however, I think the current concern is that the planet is warming and will cause climate change among other things -- the fear is global warming.

Plus, "global warming" leaves the concept open to stupid objections like, "There's no global warming - this is the coldest winter in 100 years." The Right is so fond of arguments they call "common sense", but are actually gross misinterpretations of data.

He's getting real busy in his last days.

From now on January 18 is National Sanctity of Life Day.

And for those of you who go, "I don't click on what I know is a link to some liberal blog.", the link is to the White House Press release.

ROB

Enjoy it, four days and a wake-up before he's gone forever. Oh! what will you do then!
